Desirous....not saying it is right or wrong...i personally believe that the patriarchal arrangement is archaic and demeaning to women. I believe humans should be on equal footing as regards rights, dignity, and respect. Also that whatever choices a man or a woman makes regarding their career, lifestyle etc is their personal responsibility and privilege. A biblical type patriarchal society does not allow females those rights or options.

The patriarchal society....oldest adult male...head honcho...younger adult males, esp firstborn next...male children next stop on the totem pole...then adult women...female child the lowest in human terms. Whatever the story the female child had no rights. All they were to do is arrive at child bearing years and birth babies preferably male. In this story the female child never got to that highlight in her life.

“You know how I know that they're finished out there? The carts.”
by Athanasius inthe watchtower's many legal problems and the jws' use of carts in their preaching work, reminded me of a scene and dialog from the film patton.. in a scene where patton is viewing a battle site the morning after, he says to an aide about the nazis: “you know how i know that they're finished out there?
in my dreams i saw the carts.
they kept buzzing around in my head and i couldn't figure out why.

Stopped at a red light yesterday...by a small park and there was one of the propaganda displays...manned by a beer bellied male in a raucous coral pink shirt and a sadly attired woman...like a refugee from a poverty stricken part of Siberia...but the kicker was their faces. Scowls like you can't imagine...they just looked like they were angrily breathing hatred. Seems to me the happifying message would or should generate a friendlier facial expression.....
And...if it is an honor to be allowed to stand by, why such angst?

A lot of questions surrounding that story....what really was the "sacrifice" for starters. And assuming the characters were real historical beings and details presented factual...given the patriarchal society and a female child being the lowest in value as a human, I doubt the girl had any choices. So very sad the misery humanity has endured through the ages...

Where I was pre 75 there was a fairly fast surge of new converts...mainly Vietnam vets disillusioned and desperate. A lot of 20 somethings that had taken to drugs and were ready to come clean. The religion plus the 1975 hype appealed to them. But most gradually departed the religion...of their kids very very few remain these days in the web. Several of the guys that served in that war never did conquer their demons...there were several suicides. I see a pattern though...in that those with poor coping skills were drawn to the religion....and it only perpetuated that problem.

Serious question!
by ZindagiNaMilegiDobaara inhow would you answer:.
how can you change or improve an individuals dominant mental attitude?.

The only person you can change is yourself....
But...if you find a person with whom you associate disturbing to you or toxic....best to distance yourself. We have to take care of ourselves and our mental and emotional well-being first.

Those damned apostates!! I recall a publication explaining the departure of many with the advent of public preaching...they were too prideful to witness......
But...1975 and so many other of the "expectation that makes the heart sick" with this doomsday cult... Just can't stand waiting for that mass destruction...

The Great Tribulation must be at least 3 years away
by BourneIdentity insince they’ve announced the dates for the next 3 memorials, no talk about this “may be our last one!”.
since they’ve announced the patterson construction project will take 3 years to complete.
let’s also not forget when they designed warwick, they spent money on expensive energy saving technology to save millions in the long run, years and decades in the future.

Yeah...it was called "selective destruction" as I recall. They allegedly have mapped out roads and infrastructure that will remain unscathed so that their post Armageddon rebuilding will proceed smoothly.
But don't get all excited about your new oceanfront property, because as in the flood topography likely will be altered. And...it will not necessarily be yours to choose where you will dwell...as all things must take place in an orderly fashion. So evidently those taking the lead will lovingly dole out property assignments.

Do JWs eat shrimp, crab, lobster, clams, and mussels?
by sacolton ini'll play devil's advocate.... true, the mosaic law code prohibited the eating of blood.
but jesus fulfilled the law covenant thus wiping out all the laws previously set.
but then later, (through god's spirit, of course wink wink) the abstaining of blood was again brought to followers of christ.

Omg....I never heard about any food restrictions other than products containing blood. If shellfish has got to go...then lead away the blubbery pig as well. That cloven hoof thing.
