just to add - from what you say - my take on it is that it is a passive-agressive reactionary thing.

Christianity and the Parental Rejection of LGBT Youth
by scotsman inbeen a while since i've been on here and it's nice to see the lgbt topics still burn the brightest.. the ali forney centre support lgbt kids who are rejected by their religious parents and these videos will no doubt mirror the sad experiences of some of us gay jws..

some people feel they have a right to sit in judgement of others - and even in matters that they really do not understand. i would think that a parent's natural love for his/her offspring would be unconditional, but time after time sadly you see this is not the case. parental rejection is a heavy burden to bear, but sometimes you just have to accept it for what it is and distance yourself. it is your life, not theirs.
i do think in some cases, the perceived evils of homosexuality are so drummed into people that they feel some level of guilt if a child is not heterosexual, and that adds to the mix - being a motivating factor in their displeasure/disassociation.....
(didn't watch the videos - just my thoughts on the topic....)

Identity Crisis: Who Am I?
by Emery inafter learning ttatt, i have completely abandoned christian fundamentalism.
thus, dropping many superstitions, prejudices, and biases associated with legalistic interpretations of the bible.
although i am agnostic, i still adhere to many christian principles, not because i think they are divine truths, but because i've benefited from the wisdom.. since i no longer believe in the inspiration of the bible, i repeatedly find myself falling into questions of conscience, ones which i've never faced before... .

this is interesting. we were so programmed by that fallacy that in order to be a decent upright honorable individual you had to be a witness - all others were evil mishaps awaiting death, doom and destruction. the reality is that ethical behaviors exist in all groups and cultures - and while largely formed by environment can be either developed further or broken down. i still grapple with fundamentalism and certain issues - but i truly believe that the best route is to be kind and considerate - the golden rule.
i used to get so aggravated with the thing about the witness who found scads of money and did the honest thing and turned it in because he was a witness....like if he weren't he'd keep the stash? if you are a decent honorable person it shouldn't matter what religious identification you carry - you do the right thing because you have standards and ethics - and you know that if you lost that $$$ you would be dammed appreciative of the person who returned it. decency is decency.

Memorial trauma-morial!
by Julia Orwell inhaven't been to the kh in a couple of weeks but went to the memorial along with hubby because i'm still in the early stages of my fade.. the speaker gave a really nice talk which was divided into 4 parts: why we need ransom, how it benefits us, who should partake and how to keep benefiting.
i was ok with the first 2 parts cuz he backed up with scriptures.
then the part about who should partake departed from scripture and went into this convoluted thing about how although jesus died for us, we're not to partake because jesus didn't make a covenant with us so we don't partake.

My Encounter with a JW couple this Morning
by cantleave ini was shopping with nugget in sainsburys and i saw them in the bread aisle.
a couple in their late 70's / early 80's who really i do have an affection for.
he was an ms when i left, not sure if he still is, and she was just a very genuine person with decades of "faithful service" to the cult.. when i was a newly appointed elder, their grand-daughter had accused her step-father of sexual abuse, he was eventually df'd but has since my leaving been reinstated.
