  sooo.... i've been perusing recent topics for a few minutes and seeing pretty much the standard jw fare these days - scandals, abuse, bad behavior, cover ups, bullying, shunning, family splits, torturous extrications from a cult, mind control etc.. i started to try and think of anything the dubs were doing that was actually beneficial to mankind in any way, and i'm struggling.

  without being facetious, wtf do they do to make anybody's life better?

  help me out here.. pros.

  Gwyneth Paltrows candles in the wind

  are you put off with gwyneth paltrow`s marketing of a brand of candles she advertises as "smelling like my vagina " ?.

  she sure has gone down in my estimation as an actress and /or role model for young women if that what she was ever about in the first place .. how gross is that ?

  and the interview i saw after this with her was one big joke ?

  graceyou won’t find any in the new world translation!no no no.you only find “undeserved kindness.”(ask yourself why you don't deserve kindness.

  ?isn’t kindness basic decency?

  ?if you are one of jehovah’s witnesses you have a reason.jehovah’s witnesses are never on firm standing with their god.

  Interesting piece. I struggle with the concept of "grace" still.....

  Love the junk jalopy analogy. Perfect fit for the mangled teachings of that religion. If only they would make a serious study of ancient history, cultures and mores before trying to dissect scripture perhaps they would come up with a more cohesive belief structure....or perhaps not.

  my wife asked me after the year 2000 came and went without fanfare(because the wt organization said all the “new world” would be here within this 20th century would end), “ what would it take for you to leave the truth?”.

  my reply was “ if i turn 60 in this “system of things”.

  i remember when i was a kid in the early 70s that we always had a baseball game or picnic where they would get together and bring a dish to pass.

  every summer there was one or more.

  we had canoe picnic parties and camp fires ect.

  Flood over everest

  meeting part comment on how the flood covered everest.

  that is even more ignorant than mountains being pushed up and eroding in a few thousand years.

  and it wasnt cold either.. i should have commented on the bristlecone in the awake that survived the flood.

  Wasn't it that giant water canopy from Edenic times....when the atmosphere was warm and humid and bright sun didn't shine through as we know today....and then the canopy plopped and submerged earth in massive tons of water and reshaped the geography and altered the geology???

  I personally believe there was a flood in ancient days.....localized however....and speculations as to the topography and changes wrought are just that....speculations.

  the latest jwdotorg experience starts very familiarly:.

  danielle, one of jehovah’s witnesses in south africa, found a bag that a customer had left behind in a coffee shop.

  inside the bag was a wallet with money and credit cards.. when the owner met her to get it back,.

  These tales used to annoy me to the nth degree....so if you weren't a dub you'd be a crook is what they're saying.

  When I was very young I had a part time job in a department store...they had hired another girl who was a witness I did not personally know. Well boss comes to me asking about her because they had ample proof that she stashed a bag of clothes and made off with it ...she got canned for the theft. So...being a witness does not equate with honesty in reality.
