Is it because of Pride or Loyalty?

in a recent effort to entice me back to meetings, an elder friend gave me the example of his dad.. he said that his pioneer/elder/ex-missionary dad went through the anticipation and disappointment of 1975 and yet, he kept going faithfully for decades afterwards.

the obvious point was that, if his dad can deal with disappointment, then, surely a nobody like me could do the same in regards to the scrapping of the 1914 generation doctrine, and all the other changes.

his 'encouragement' was to tell me that it was only me that felt like this, everyone else is fine and have no problems with the changes.

I totally agree with the pride factor....it is a bitter pill to swallow to admit you were wrong and wasted so much time and energy in an insipid daydream....

Case in point...I know of one elderly, now deceased, who had been in jail during WWII for neutrality....over the years recognized some of the flaws but was loath to admit them....but expressed that personal dilemma...admitting being locked into something for a lifetime and realizing it wasn't all it was cracked up to be. Some can get loose and free...others never manage to...

The human condition is fundamentally flawed and those flaws are exploited by power hungry individuals or groups. Individual responses vary....

I seriously would avoid any meetings with "elders". That would only add to your current turmoil. You need to immerse yourself in your career, interests, and friends outside of the cult. I hope it is an option to move out of the place with your mother....far more healthful mentally and emotionally to be independent and not living with the religion on any level. Stay busy and do things that bring you happiness. Put the crazy religion out of your mind as much as possible and gradually it will become just an unsavory memory. Best to you!!

can you imagine being 6 years old and thinking god himself is no longer your friend because you blew out a candle on a birthday cake or wished someone a happy birthday?.

as bad as all this is, the birthday thing is just one of many jw rules that isnt even supported by scripure.

I feel so bad for kids whose parents are all gung ho about that religion.... Miserable life for a child.....fear drummed into them persistently...fear of everything happy and normal and positive. Emotional abuse.

What do pioneers do if there no house to house? Sit and write moronic letters that likely will never be read or dial phone numbers and leave stupid messages that will be deleted? And I gather the hourly requirement is significantly less than the olden days 100 a month.....plus 100 mags placed...7 progressive studies.....forgot the number of return visits demanded.... Whats the point?

is it designed to provoke a response that will bring persecution on the religion ?

or is it just going to be some meaningless weak campaign to get the rank and file all excited about it and achieving nothing.. or is it going to suggest to the government officials that this mob could very well be the next jonestown /wacol incident and we need to act now.

So this whole thing now is letter writing? No face to face witnessing? Seems like an exercise in futility to me....they really think vague mail from religious nuts is going to make any meaningful impression on any level other than the egos of the perpetrators?

i just saw the congregation analysis report for 2020, a form i have not noticed before.

it asks for the number of "active publishers.

" this is a term i have not seen specified before.

I've been out of the cult for years, but I recall the term active pubs vs inactive pubs being used.....

a decision made by the governing body of jehovah's witnesses and transmitted orally down the chain of command, a decision proving the leadership of this spirit lead body.. the gdpr laws in the uk have been interpreted by wt lawyers so that all record keeping relating to the public has been banned, telephone witnessing and letter writing also, forbidden.. now in a show of supreme bravado the publishers are to be informed that if they wish to, if they dare, they may write to people at their own risk.. bear in mind, nothing is in writing.

So...basically field service is reduced to send someone a stupid letter if you dare...and watch some stuff on your computer screen constitutes meeting attendance. Sounds to me like this religion is eddying down the drain into oblivion.

perhaps it should be in scandalous behavior.

not a big deal but an example of the cult-ish intimidation and behavior.. at the end of this mornings short wt review prior to the convention brainwash by jackson, ( melbourne australia) the elder stated "brothers we have a resolution to present to the congregation".

Seriously!!!??!! That is ...bizarre. Let us know if you disagree so we can beat you with a stout stick. This religion just gets stupider and more ridiculous ....some of this stuff is hard to believe anyone takes them seriously.
