A close friend was recently disfellowshiped for refusing his JC 'invite'. That was actually the stated reason.

I'm a lifelong Red Sox fan, so I revel in angst and suffering. The championships in 2004 and 2007 were amazing...but it looks like we're back to business as usual this year :)
just received an email off shelby to say that li-li arrived home a few hours ago.
she's in a bad way, rushed to the vet's as she pee'd blood all over the floor.
she has three small punctures, badly bruised and is doped up with pain killers and antibiotics.. the vet think's that due to her injuries she was kicked as well as being involved in a dog fight.. shelby is on full alert for any signs of internal damage loss of thirst/appetite, listlessness, more blood in urine etc.
Dogs are the best people. I hope she's ok.

i was a hubby, father of young children, service committee member, working 2 jobs and then this.
it truly is a thankless task.
OM-Here's where it gets really tough for a Talk Coordinator if he's from a KH with only 3 or 4 speakers who are approved to give talks in other Congos. That was the case for me for my short tenure as TC. We had one "A" speaker, one "B" speaker and the other 2 were definite "D"s as far as boredom goes. Good luck getting another TC to send a speaker if all you can offer is a "D" or maybe even no speaker at all since our body count was so low.
Oh man, the memories are flooding back! We definitely had a shortage of "A" and "B" speakers, and they stipulated how often they were willing to give outgoing talks. Other TC's in my circuit were pretty stingy.
The job was made a tiny bit easier by a computer program written by some brother that got passed around. It would warn you if a particular outline had been given at your hall in the past 12 months.
I also had the "Sound Rota" program since I had to schedule the sound/microphone/platform/attendant schedule. The worst was when the elders would tell me that a certain brother was no longer qualified to handle the mics, so I would have to slip a revised schedule onto the information board and deflect questions.

I remember as a young , naive ms having this "privilege" dumped on me. The previous holder had made a total mess of it & I literally was given it on a Thursday & there wasn't anyone scheduled to give a talk the next Sunday ( or any Sunday after that. )
Dozy - the exact same thing happened to me as a young, naive MS. The horror!
I was given almost no training or guidelines. I remember getting cornered at the CA by the other coordinators - they had all brought their scheduling materials and wanted to meet during lunch to swap speakers the way you might swap baseball cards...or maybe like a fantasy football draft. I hadn't received the memo, thank god.
Rich - great stuff, getting a call out of the blue like that. Off topic, I recently got a call from the RBC about an upcoming project. Haven't been on RBC in at least 4-5 years, haven't been to a KH in over 2 years. Weird.
i am over here in south dakota on vacation, the last time i saw all my relatives was during my grandmothers funeral which was about 2 years ago, during that time i was still in the borg, yesterday i was visiting all my non jw relatives and they were all shocked that i have changed in a positive way and they all know that i have left the borg, my aunt told me i am alot more happier and have alot more self confidence, i still have family members in the borg my 2 brothers and sister and parents who all shun me on a certain level and also i told all my relatives what i have gone through after leaving, i told them about the shunning, during christmas i called my dad and i was told that i am not allowed over at their house and my dad hung up the phone and didn't even say goodbye also at the time my roommate was listening to the conversation since i had my speakerphone on and she was very shocked about the shunning.. i want to say thankyou to all the people who have helped me mentally out of the borg, all the youtube videos that people have made, plus jwn, if it was not for the internet i would have still been in the borg, i have to say the internet is one of the most greatest thats how i did all my research and totally clearing out my mind, also now i have some new skills, i have learned how to do critical thinking, plus also have learned so much more about the world around me, because i slightly suffer from a form of autism i have been able to work at that more and now understand so much more about people around me and also have made alot of new friends:).
Good for you, Andys. I think that a conscious exit from this religion often results in a person leading a much more deliberate life, with all the good things that go along with that. A non-JW friend who was there for me during my exit told me, "It has been such a pleasure watching you learn how to live."
even when i was a devout witless, i always winced a bit when i heard or especially had to utter "jehovah".
it's just one of those uncomfortable words to say like "colostomy", "vagina", or "erectile dysfunction"..
I always hated the exaggerated and drawn out way that it was pronounced during the D.C. bible dramas. "ju-HOOO-vuh". Makes me shudder.
