  with me it never actually was the case.all i remember and still hear is make sure you stay with jehovah....sometimes you just get tired of the same terd getting shoved down your throat..

  I was NEVER EVER given a choice - and for that very reason alone - I find 'fault' with the org. It was made clear that my father was NOT going to have any grown unbaptized kids living in HIS house! So my constant need of approval from my parents is what motivated me to get baptized and join the crew at 14yrs old!! (oh and the fear of getting kicked out). It was burned in my mind NEVER to question anything cause that meant you thought more of yourself and didn't trust in jehovah. So I just jumped in head-first. what else could I do?

  Of course NOW that I'm out, I see the error in that 'push' for kids to get baptized and join the fold. It's seriously flawed!!! You can't research the religion (for real), only using their info provided. That's like buying a car and only reading the manufacturers book...NOT unbiased reports and reviews. And then to allow a young person to join and be LOCKED into that dedication despite them gaining knowledge and actively using their 'free will' when they become adults!

  I'm going poo-less

  no, this is not my annual march colon cancer awareness thread!*.

  a certain poo-less poster here has inspired me to stop using shampoo.. according to various hippie types, shampoo forces your scalp to produce extra oils and it takes a while to adjust.

  sudsing detergents are bad for the environment too.. plus they have carcinogens and flying spaghetti monster knows i don't need any more of those.. so....have you gone poo-less?.

  Honestly, the silicones are HORRIBLE for hair (frizz tamers, wax, pomade, shine liquids) all because 'cones' tend to dry OUT hair int he long run. They only COAT your hair, not actually moisturize it. So the book says to find conditioners w/o cones - and the BEST one I've found (this may sound cheap as hell) but it's Suave Coconut Cond! $1 a bottle, but it works AMAZ?ING with my curly hair. Oh,and no Treseme Naturals has come out with a cond that is silicone free....I use that too.

  my father was physically and mentally abusive to my siblings and i. he was inactive from the meetings and service for much of my life.

  Welcome, welcome, welcome!! Such a heart-wrenching story you shared, but its good to get it OUT there, isn't it?

  Sadly, I FEEL all that you said. I was raised in an emotionally abusive household, and so when I grew up, I continued to choose men to 'date' that were abusive just as my father was (even though I swore I never would). Unforunately, accepting abuse is a learned behavior - and I had it so deeply ingrained in ME that I didn't recognize it till it was too late. I actually almost married a JW man who was physically abusive, and thank God I ended that before it was too late...but I also used that situation as a motivation to mentally get myeslf together, and therapy has helped! The elders, well, your situation is like SO MANY other you will read or hear about...it's not about helping the flock, it's moreso about beating them down and disposing of them - that seems to be much easier then readjusting someone. Learned it, went through it, and was DF'd just like you with that accusation that I was not 'humble' nor repentant (mind you I had visible bruises on my body from that JW man's assault AND I had court documents protecting me from him which I brought to show the elders). IT's painful to be told you don't matter when you're at your lowest point and really NEED a positive word or action - isn't it?

  I have naturally curly hair and there is a book that talks all about 'no poo' routines....shampoo has harsh detergents (sulfates) that are completely unnecessary to cleanse hair. Actually, the book recommends washing your scalp and rinsing hair with conditioner only (silicone free of course). It also recommends natural 'shampoos' for those that are interested. THAT really makes my hair amazingly shiney, soft, dandruff free, and keeps it moisturized! Matter-a-fact, my hairdresser rarely finds split ends anymore either...all cause I'm not stripping my hair any longer. Been following this routine for YEARS.

  "I want to apologize sincerely for condemning you if we as a body of elders determined that you were unrepentant or rebellious. I realize now that we were not really helping you to be spiritual or to repair the relationship with Jehovah, but rather, we were destroying your world." That statement alone brought tears to my eyes!!! I think elders a lot of the time excuse their HUMAN side for more of a 'business' role, and that is when people get hurt. It's disheartening. But I think it's sweet to apologize for what you feel you had a part in...I respect you for that. For me - I want to apologize to all the GOOD people I've met throughout my life and treated coldly or refused to associate with because I was a JW and thought they were 'bad association'. And to those that were DF'd and in my past, I would shun them and gossip about what I thought they could have done to get in 'trouble'...that I feel terrible for. Especially now that I am DF'd!

  The threat of missing meetings?

  this morning i had the memory flashback of something my mom used to always say: that missing meetings is like missing a 'meal', and that if you don't 'eat' on a regular basis, then you will lose your life.

  she would come at me with "you have to stay close to the meetings - when armaggedon comes, that is where we will get our directions on where to go and what to do".. i used to be scared not to be at meetings for fear the end would come and i would be alone...or without my parents...all because that day i didn't go to the khall.

  anyone else remember that???

  Disfellowshipped People Are A Bad Lot

  a week prior to my wife being baptized she and i discussed the reasons why people are disfellowshipped.

  she says that people are disfellowshipped because they simply want to live their lives the way they want to and no longer submit to god's will.

  in other words, they want to do something that is immoral and goes against bible principles.

  If someone is a raging alcoholic, they need help not being kicked out from their support network of friends and family. Make sense? Talk about ridiculous!! The CO that was serving in my area (during a degrading 'drop by' with another annoying elder) proceeded to tell me that he knows ALL about domestic violence because his own sister was viciously abused by her ex husband who was a JW...for YEARS this dude abused her and nobody did a thing about it. Finally he got busted doing something illegal and went to jail! So the wife gained a divorce and moved in with her brother (this CO). Well, due to all the abuse, she had developed an alcohol problem. Her bro being an 'elder' and being in his house, he turned her IN and she was DF'd. What the HELL kind of brother does that? Obviously his sister was dealing with deep issues (which abuse brings on...I know 1st hand) and so how in the HELL is DFing her showing love/support - the 1 thing she would've needed most? UGH! It's just backwards thinking if you ask me. My mom used to always tell me that a person gets reproved because they are repentant and DF'd because they had a bad attitude. RIGHT.......
