those jw's always have their grubby hands out. They will never give you a gift, but if you give them one they will rip it from your hands. They are definately the most ungrateful people I've ever seen.

Just wait till you start collecting ornaments and decorations. You will be totally amazed. I have been collecting the retro glass ornaments & I love them. Especially the mangers. They are my absolute favorite. I just love to watch the lights twinkle. Just like I love to watch a crackling fire. Except, when it's in the 70's it's hard to have a fire going - the A/C would have to be on at the same time.

Organ Donation
by tinman72 insomething i've wrestled with since i left the organization.
any xdubs out there who are organ donors?
-
moana
What if my parts ain't no good by the time I'm gone? I think it's a wonderful thing to be able to help others that may need an organ to live. I would definately be an organ donor. Of course, the thought of being chopped up & having parts removed doesn't make me feel too good - I won't know or feel it when I'm gone.

Drug use among Jehovah's witness's?
by Pepper inmy kids have sense we all quit, i never thought they would, i tried so hard to show them they don't need to but shit happen's.
i have also noticed tht a lot of the disfellowshiped ones not all but a lot, have started smoking weed, and seem very easy with the idea, anyone else?

Pepper:
A lot of the current jw's know that if they don't tell - they don't get dfs. When I was young I knew of those that smoked and drank (a little more than moderately) and just kept quiet about it. Face it - they are the biggest bunch of gossipers I have ever seen.
The young people are so stiffled and growing up having to dress funny and being so different is not easy with all the peer pressure out there. Bet there is a lot more drug use than is admitted to.

JWs and Xmas
by scotsman inin today's copy of the scotsman there's an article on people that don't celebrate christmas for a variety of reasons and sure enough a witness family are featured.
they are spending christmas day on the beach in the canary islands and after pointing out the fact that the 25th is christ's birthday go on to say.
"it would be churlish to say that our children are not affected by peer pressure about christmas, but we feel bigger issues are at stake - independant thought and standing up for what you believe in.

Happy Holidays everybody!
Not celebrating christmas is so so hard on young children. especially when it was taken away after you did celebrate. I was told I was selfish and a bad person for wishing for a gift. Even my hubby may say that their holidays were not always perfect. Not even close to what I remember. The good news is that I am now free! Free to bake and exchange gifts and praise Jesus for all the love he has shown me - unconditionally. What a difference!!

Did Being JW make YOU a Social Misfit or HERMIT?
by Smoldering Wick inas i sat quietly in my apartment...staring at the computer screen, i got this overwhelming feeling of being totally alone.
don't get me wrong, i feel comfortable alone.
but, how did i end up this way?
-
moana
Wick:
Not only did I grow up being a jw but also as an only child. It was so hard to fit in anywhere except that cult when you're a misfit. I don't even believe I fit in with them too well, since I was never invited to the things the other young people did.
To this day I still long for the closeness that I see a lot of siblings share. Being shunned by my mother doesn't help me feel any better about any of it. I thought this was so so many years ago - I never dreamed I'd be dealing with all these jw issues again.
Good thing my hubby constantly reminds me of the good things we have now. I'm kinda bummed out my meetup group isn't getting together this month. DRAT! I really look forward to that.

Told my JW Story at AA Meeting
by COMF ini was invited to be a guest speaker at the saturday night aa speaker's meeting.
this meeting usually has a large crowd and they get somebody with longtime sobriety to come up and tell his story of "what i used to be like, what happened, and what i'm like now" as an example for others.
i'll have eight years in january, so i guess that makes me fairly longtime.. i told them:.

comf:
Have been recovering from jw's for 27 years - 16 years as a friend of Bill Wilson. I really believe that running from the cult made me run from having a God of my understanding. If I didn't find the program no telling where that fear would've took me.
I truly enjoy all the wonderful things I read here - I know I should be working, but it really helps me a lot.
Happy Turkey day!

Christian priorities and holidays
by jurs ineven when i was a jw i thought it odd that witnesses gave so much importance to holidays.
when i was studying, i was bogged down with how awful they were because they are pagan and how wrong it was to celebrate.
it seems to me like more attention was donated to the issue of holidays than what the meat of christianity is.
-
moana
jurs:
I think the older I get the more I realize that Holidays are not about or for me anyway. I love the time I can spend with my hubby and this year I heard a wonderful message.
It's this.....we spend a lot of time thinking and buying the perfect gifts for people that have everything. The light finally went on! It's not about me. I do have everything I need & fighting crowds at malls and spending lots of money is not Peace on Earth. I think it would make me happier to try to help other people - than buying expensive sweaters we don't need.
I'm usually so selfish - this is so out of character for me. It overwhelmes me when I think of the love Jesus has for me - much greater than anything the jws have.

Best Thing about this Thanksgiving
by Shakita inthe best thing about this thanksgiving for me?
i don't have to cook this year!!!
going to relatives who are having the whole spread catered!.
-

Shakita:
This is the first year I'm so looking forward to doing all the cooking. I think the Holidays had me wrapped up in so much fear & my expectations were of a perfect little family that never will be (especially since I'm shunned). Just me and hubby & he loves to eat, so it's his fav holiday. Feast & Football. The weather outside will be frightful...... mabie I can have a fire. I plan to get out my christmas decorations & start on that. Very very festive.
It's just so nice to have four long days off in a row - we're gonna have a ball!!
