Totally Busted and Scared!!!!!!
by 2pink inmy husband and i have been fading/disappearing for a few months now.
we haven't been to meetings in quite some time, but most of our family members live out of the area, so they don't know yet.
so with the spirit of joy that comes from newly exiting a doomsday cult, we have been celebrating all the holidays as well as my 5 year old's birthday (she turned 5 on december 2).

thanks for all the replies.
i did not want to lie and really didn't want to ignore it either. i felt this had to be faced. we are realizing that because we have small kids, a fade is really not possible. and quite honestly, i really don't care either way anymore...fade or DF. so i went ahead and sent a 2 line message back to her saying simply that yes, we are planning a birthday party for my daughter because we find no scriptural objections to them whatsoever. i then told her that we would appreciate it if she did not share this matter with anyone else until we did.
here is her reply to me:
Well, as far as respecting your wishes for privacy- I am not in a hurry to tell anyone about this. However I hope that you don't live a double life for very long and put me into a weird position that I would have to tell the brothers because you know that is my obligation as a Witness to keep the congregation clean. I'm not rushing you to decide either. I'm really sorry that you are going thru this weird place and you didn't feel like you could talk to me about it. Is it just about birthday parties, or is this about something much bigger? I have a feeling this is bigger than b-day parties- but if you don't want to talk about it, then that's your decision.
As far as birthdays go- MY opinion is that they are a special day in our children's life, and I do recognize my girls b-day. Turning it into a celebration or participating in pagan customs is the part that is wrong. But you already know that. Sometimes we don't like certain aspects of our religion, I'm sure all the grown Israelite men going into the promised land didn't like the whole "circumcision" thing, but those were Jehovah's standards and if they wanted to be there, then that's what they had to do. I'm sure that you don't need me to preach to you right now. I just want you to know that you're not alone in finding things difficult to do or difficult to understand- that's where our faith comes in, and if our faith is very low, then it doesn't help us thru our rough spots.
I feel like maybe this is an attempt to hurt your parents in the worst way possible because of how much they have hurt you. If it is- please remember that they are the ones who hurt you- not Jehovah. They are the ones with their own "tweaked" view of things, not Jehovah. And he sees what you are going thru and they will have to be accountable to him for their actions. To be a witness does not mean having to raise your children the way you were raised. Jehovah is a God of love and reasonableness and patience and forgiveness- he is not your parents.
I'm sorry that I haven't just picked up the phone and called you about all of this- but I feel very sad about it and I can't emotionally go there right now infront of my kids- they're home sick again! Plus I already feel like I have put you on the spot and I'm sorry about that- you don't owe me explanations, but I just couldn't pretend like I didn't know that something was going on and it was my obligation as a Christian to find out more.
I hope that you still pray about this before you make any major decisions. should i reply or just let it die? i'm thinking let it die so as to give no more fuel to this potential firestorm, but i do feel like i need to find out from her when she is going to the elders on this. apparently, we have a timeline now!!!! -

yes it does seem insane-it is insane!-that this is the way JWs operate. i guess the worst part really is to come to realize that the people that i love will drop my family and me and not look back once this news is out. so, it never was a real relationship to begin with, was it? it's just so sad.
oh and LOL at the beheading comment! thanks for the laugh (that i desperately need today!).

i could lie and deny it, yes. but isn't that just putting off the inevitable!? at some point, i am going to have to come clean bcs i have little kids, like i mentioned and i don't want them to have to keep any secrets from any relatives or friends. it has to come out...i guess there is just never a good time or way, is there?

so with the spirit of joy that comes from newly exiting a doomsday cult, we have been celebrating all the holidays as well as my 5 year old's birthday (she turned 5 on december 2). we have a birthday party planned for her next weekend. our biggest reason (among the MANY) for leaving the JWs was for our kids. we want them to live normal lives and grow up not even knowing what it's like to be a part of that religion. we want them to live life to the fullest, and we feel that in part, includes all the holidays etc so once we decided we were out, we jumped right into real life.
anyway.....
so today i get a FB message from one of my hardcore JW cousins asking if we had a big birthday party for my daughter. i really don't know how she found out, but somehow, she did. this is a person who will call the elders immediately, then call all our family members right after that.
this is going to be where it gets really ugly, isn't it? i knew this was coming and would be a part of the exit, but i've been dreading it. it's going to be very painful because there are members of my family that i am very very close to.
well, thanks for listening. any advice or thoughts welcome.

Feeling it today
by Heartbreaker ini know there is talk on here about post traumatic stress and its affects, but i never imagined i'd feel like i was going through it.
now, not on a large scale i hope, but the last few days i've just really been feeling the hurt of losing my family, and those people i counted as friends in the congregations and assemblies that will not longer view me as acceptable to be around.
my teen daughters have friends, and a crowd to be around, and my husband has even made some contacts that he had before, and ones that he's met new that share hobbies and interests.

you had me at cookies and kahlua (assuming that there are some left, of course).
anyway, i so feel you. as you know, we are in very similar circumstances. money is so tight, family is even tighter and the future is not lookin' too hot at the moment. while i have faith that things will certainly (and can only) get better, i can totally relate to every one of your sentiments expressed. it's hard, SO hard sometimes that, like you, i don't even know where to turn to improve your circumstances.
keep smiling, heartbreaker. it's sometimes the only thing i can do to ensure my day and my kids' day is a good one. we are here, we are healthy, we have potential. smile big....i know that we have good things ahead. you know where to find me if you want/need to vent anymore. i'm always available.
oh and ps-my husband does insurance. he mostly does retention and office management, but does some sales. if you need or want any advice, he would be more than happy to help. FB me.

Secret Santa Wish List 2009
by Lady Lee infor those of you who signed up for the secret santa 2009 list here is where you give your secret santa an idea of things you might like.
it's hard enough to give gifts to people you know nevermind people you have never met.. so bearing in mind the $15 limit give us an idea what your favorite interests, colors are, or what things you might like.. in the past people have suggested something for their new christmas tree, a book, a cd of their favorite music, something from where their secret santa lives (something with the city's or country's name on it or an widely known item.. once people get their name they will be able to check back here to get an idea of what your interest is before they go shopping.. if you say "anything" or don't post then expect a surprise..

this is my very first year celebrating christmas, so some ideas for my secret santa are:
any tree ornaments or christmas decor (refer back to last line stating i have never celebrated before....the house looks pretty bare, LOL)
a donation to my daughter's school (they are a non profit organization--they run a wonderful program for deaf/hard of hearing kids)
a pair of cozy house slippers as my current pair are in need of retirement (i'm a woman, size 7.5 shoe)
stationary--i love sending hand written letters
i guess that's all i can think of right now. and um, i realize this wish list makes me sound like a 98 year old woman, but i'm only 31! lol
