did you know there are no numbers in the bible at all?.

that's right.. oh, except the book of numbers (which is rather counter-intuitive) which contains no numbers itself.. what am i talking about?.

after reading 'the greatest show on earth' by dawkins, i have been intrigued by how biblical literalists explain the many findings that seem to support evolution and contradict various parts of the bible.

in doing to i have browsed around on aig but i have generally felt let down by the quality of evidence and interpretations they present.

so i would like to ask all non-evolutionists: if i wanted to learn more about the physical case against evolution, what books should i read?

Memorial 2010 Your Experiences

just got back from memorial.

only went so that i could say to my parents that i had gone and to remind myself why i left.. oh my word!!!

it was sooooo painful.. got there a bit late - it was a couple of minutes into the talk.

I was gonna go and have some wine but I ended up with my girlfriend partaking something else. She was chanting "Oh god oh god" Does that count as a Godly song? I think she was praying because her eyes were closed... unless.,.. the only weird thing is that she started speaking in tongues.

Oh well maybe next year If I dont have a girlfriend then :-)

GIVE us back our ELEVEN DAYS! Go to bed on Friday and wake up on Friday the NEXT DAY?

imagine having just paid your rent.

you have a whole month until you have to pay again.

you go to bed secure in that knowledge.. when you wake up the next morning you discover 11 days have been removed from the calendar and your rent will be due again only 20 days!.

Explain this please... Aren't all our activities governed by that Catholic pope's calendar? Im sorry but I dont get the point

for the last 13 years, we haven't attended and didn't even care about it.

but since we became card carrying members of jwn in september, we have an interest in what are friends here on jwn are doing.. for us?

we will be watching 'dancing with the stars'.

CO visit provides preview of April generation change!

i thought the april wt's brazen generation doctrine change would barely get an official mention before nor after the two paragraphs that deal with it, but yesterday i went to the circuit overseer's visit and in a talk from a bethel outline, he specifically mentioned the change, and i quote... "the very very very newest information we have available, from the april 15th 2010 watchtower!

" ..reads the infamous paragraphs.. and then, "isn't that wonderful brothers and sisters?

so now we understand that it means that brother russell's life overlapped with brother rutherford's who's life overlapped (he went through them all), so clearly, this means the end is near.".

Hardly anybody does this, but, INTELLECTUAL HONESTY requires it!

i work in a used book store in the religion & philsophy section and daily have interesting interactions with customers.. the layout of the religion section is two separate divisions.

the fluffy side is chri-fi (christian fiction) and christian living books.

the meaty side has bibles, textbooks, theology, hermenutics, reference guides, etc.. i keep a sort of mental scorecard going as to who goes where.. i try and ask subtle questions about why each person is looking for a particular item.. i hardly ever run into anybody of a skeptical nature unless they are trying to prove somebody else wrong.. which reminds me of when i was a good little jw in a bookstore all those years ago.... i'd look up what a book might have to say about the name "jehovah.

So by this statement hardly anybody is honest intellectually so most of us are dishonest intellectually..Who do you think you are?.... but I agree :-)

But why are we dishonest? could it be because we never learned, never were taught or even made aware of the importance of intellectual honesty?

But cognitive research has shown that, in reality, many people find falsification difficult. Until the latest study, scientists were the only group of experts that had been shown to use falsification.

So if many people find it difficult, if only experts had been shown to use falsification.. why is that? Could it be that as a race are not mentally prepared yet to do so? I use to believe that we were so advanced and sophisticated and still we most people dont know why they believe what they do. If the President of the most Powerful nation in the world and in the history of humankind is not intellectually honest (since I think he does believe in a Magical invisible creature who lives in the space and listens and watches us) then what can we expect of the rest?

The more I learn the more I see all the animals are my brothers and sisters. ( I am not calling my brothers and sisters animals, the other way around)

So are we really at fault as a race for being intellectually dishonest? If the cognitive research would show that everyone is able to use FALSIFICATION easily then not using it would make us Dishonest, but if many cant use it that just make is incapable, right?

HOW do you know what you KNOW you know?

Godless atheism leaves me empty, thats my first clue to turn from it.

And if I tried to embrace atheism based on my research and reading atheistic material,

it would take as much faith and energy as beliving in God.

JB: Godless atheism as opposed to Godless theism? sorry I had to write that.. leaves you empty? well if you believed in a God and decided not to believe in another God then probably you would feel the empty space left by your prior deity, dont you think? What is what left you empty? and if that was the first clue to turn from it, are turning from the empty feeling? regardless of what that might represents? did you ask why felt empty? and what was wrong for feeling empty? When I broke up with my girlfriend the worst to do was to jump in another relationship just to fill the void..

How do you embrace the non-believing in a God? I dont believe in Santa Clause but I never say I embrace not-believing in it. What is atheistic material exactly? Someone who doesnt believe in a God is not for the excess of information of his non-existance rather because of the abscense of the opposite. It doesn take faith no to believe in God. Actually I have zero faith in a God. I am just saying

TERRY: When I realized the WT lied in many issues I questioned everything the WT said. When I realized the NWT was corrupt I questioned all the bibles. When I found out the Bible was a fraud I questioned all the Holly Books. When I realize one religion had deceived me I questioned all religions. When I realized there was no evidence to believe in my God. I questioned all Gods.

So now I dont believe on any of the above not because of the amount of reasons to believe rather the abscence of evidence.

I was told what to know. thats how I got to know it. I cleaned the slate and am now relearning everything. I feel I was born yesterday in a 40 year old body and with some recycled brain material. haha I am eco-friendly
