LOVE your ENEMIES: where Jesus goes wrong
by Terry inmatthew 5:44 "but i say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,.
luke 6:35 "but love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return.
the most radical teaching attributed to jesus has implications if followed.. an invading hoarde of mongols would not be resisted.. a christian husband would not only allow his wife and daughters to be raped; he would be compelled to forgive the rapist, pray for him and offer.

Is it even POSSIBLE to escape our own PERSPECTIVE??
by Terry inin certain parts of the world people eat monkey brains by trapping a live monkey in a special table and then cracking open its skull and eating the.
contents!
yummy or disgusting?

Trying to escape the JW perspective we use the same JW perspective. For some of us thats all we had. Its impossible to start from ignorance. Its like replacing the bricks of a house. The house is already built. you can only replace one brick at a time. Dont remove many bricks at once because it will collapse.

Brother Serapion was an early patriarch of the church (191-211) he was the Bishop (circuit overseer look-alike) of Antioch. He was an “organization man” and he would visit from time to time the congregations (Churches) in his area. On one occasion he visited the Congo of Rhossus in Turkey. The Elders and the brothers in Rhossus were disputing about the Gospel of Peter (yeap you got that right) if it was appropriate or not to read it to the bros in the congo (must of the brothers were illiterate back then) .
So Brother Serapion although he did not read the Gospel himself (he was probably too busy with his trips) since he found out that the Gospel was written by Brother Peter himself (This is the only gospel that claims to be written by an apostle, since the other gospels were written anonymously so we don’t know for sure who wrote them, but according to Brother Mark his gospel was a dictation by Brother Peter, anyway) so he let the Brothers of Rhossus use that Gospel in their meetings, it was cool with him.
When he came back to his congo, he heard that some brothers were gossiping that The Gospel of Peter, although it was congruent with the other gospels (pretty much said the same thing although wasn’t based on Mark like, Matthew and Luke, rather on Q) and was written by Peter himself. It had some points of view that were favorable to the Docetists brothers (Since there was no official bible back then, only oral tradition and some sacred books, some congregations weren’t used to follow the governing body’s official light and they followed their sacred books instead, these Christian brothers denied that Jesus was fully human).
So Brother Serapion got a hold of a copy of the Gospel and read it. Although he thought that it was quite good and sounded pretty similar to the governing body’s teachings ™ he thought after receiving “new light” that it could be used by those Docetists brothers to prove their points of view regarding G-sus so he changed his mind.. I mean he received “new light” and decided to write a letter to the Governing body (the church) to tell them that he was not authorizing the use of that Gospel anymore (Sorry Peter) in the circuit or any district because it could be dangerous.
So thanks to the “new light” received by Brother Serapion we don’t get to read the only Gospel who claimed to be written by an apostle or an eye-witness of Jesus life.
In the event that you feel you want to read Peters account then there are good news for you because in 1886 a fragment of that gospel Evidently™ was found in Egypt. And it was printed in 1882. So you can decide which books go in your bible and which ones don’t. But if you still want to follow direction of the holy spirit™ and not read it to avoid being labeled apostate we understand.

"New Light" on "New Light" creates a dilemma (July 15, 2010 WT)
by pirata infor the majority of my years in the truth, the "new light" did not bother me at all.. i reasoned this way: "the faithful slave is imperfect, right?
logically they're going to make mistakes.
the main thing is that they're trying to do god's will they best they can and stick as close to the bible as they understand it.

The problem is that the HOLY SHITPIRIT is confused. You see, IT guided the writters of the BIBLE but since they wrote things soo different than what we have today the HS is having a hard time keeping up with these folks.

Who picked your bible? And which one do you use?
by cyberjesus insince there are many many translations of the bible, which one do you use?
how did you decided which one to use?.
what research did you do on that particular version and/or canon?
-
cyberjesus
So what are your responses to your questions?
1- which one do you use? I dont really use one in particular, right now I like google as my bible. what i mean is i type it on my google browser and i get the quote instantly. its faster than licking my finger and passing thin paper pages. However I almost always end up here http://bible.cc/ because it has lots of versions even some greek and hebrew, and nope they dont have the NWT I stopped trusting that one when I found out the WT inserted the name of Jehovah in the english translation when it doesnt appear on the greek manuscrits. So I decided that I was against copyist or translator who added their own interpretation... but that opened a can of worms
2.- How did you decided which one to use? i havent decided yet. I was interested to find a modern version that would try to go directly to the oldest or most accurate manuscripts and after reading the story of the LATIN VULGATE or Erasmus' editio princeps (which is the basis for the KJV) or the Textus Receptus (since a lot of translations are based on old translations) I havent found a copy that uses the "accepted" manuscripts. Since there have been new manuscripts found since the compilation of those TEXTS. I am quiet dissapointed (I know I know we dont have the autographs) but I was hoping that there was out there a version that attempted to translate directly from the manuscripts and not had a theological agenda.
3.- What research did you do on that particular version and/or canon? Oh brother, well I have been doing a lot of research on the history of the TEXTS, manuscripts, translations, translators. And I find it quite fascinating to discover that we could have had a way different bible altogether with other books and without some of the books. Its interesting to find out that our bible is really the result of the most influential christian group of the early church and that the other groups(marcionists, gnostics, ebionites, etc) also had their sacred books, and since the orthodox group won then we have an orthodox version.
4.- How much research you did on the bible in general after you left the Borg? This sucks. I have not been able to look for a job because in the past 8 months since I left the borg I have been obsessed with this religion crap (sorry for some of you) and I have been reading, buying books, trips to the library and the internet for more than 5 hours daily. (I think Its approaching the end). so I guess i have been doing some decent research. The interesting thing is that I originally started to look for the best version of the bible and I ended up after all this research not believing the bible was inspired by God nor mantained/protected by him or her whatever it could/might be.
5.-What do you know about the writers or who said who wrote what and when? I know that some of the people I thought wrote some of the books didnt really write them. I know that the people who in many instances decided who wrote some of the books took that decision based on their own theology and not in accurate knowledge. A lot of the dates that the book "ALL SCRIPTURE" taught me are completely wrong and not based on accurate information and I know that there are books that shouldnt even be there and others that didnt make it because someone didnt like them. I guess i shouldnt say shouldnt. The bible is what it is. I feel sad I didnt do this research before but oh what did I know.
6.- How many of you did zero research on the authenticity of the book and its history? haha when I was in the borg my favorite book was the book "ALL SCRIPTURE" so i guess that counts as almost zero back then.
