Goodbye, Lois.....you were a good JW
by journey-on inthe woman was on her deathbed.
she was painfully aware that her days were coming to a close and she was feeling so many conflicting emotions that she found herself wishing it would just hurry up and be over with.
you see, she had been a jehovahs witness for her entire life.

I was dying to talk to any jw about the things I was learning while reading Steve Hassan's books. So I would test his theories on my Mom. She's a die hard jw - regular pioneer - missed my first child's birth to attend a meeting - kind of lady. I'd ask harmless questions about the latest convention or 'new light' being shared. The conversations would start out with my 'real' Mom giving her opinion, but as soon as I pushed it a bit with my questions, it was like I could see the switch flick in her. She'd puff out her chest, her eyes would kinda bulge and out would come one of those, "Jehovah will reveal in due time" comments and she was done. It was fascinating.
I slip in comments now and again to try and get her to think about stuff, but I've given up trying to save my mother, and keep my mouth shut regarding her beliefs. I try to smoother her with kindness, even when she uses the cruel, culty tactics of fear, guilt and shame. It's completely thrown her off and it's funny to watch the confusion on her face.

Why Would Someone Like me Leave the "Truth"? Part 1
by cantleave inthe title of this series of threads is rhetorical.
i am going to answer it with my own experience.
before i do that, i want to discuss what we are told through the literature and the instruction that is given during meetings, assemblies and conventions, for the reasons why people leave the truth.. the watchtower of 15 november 2008, in the article help them return without delay indicates people leave because of the following:.

A question for all ex jws AND JW's here, btw I'm new too
by EndofMysteries inso far quite dissappointed from what i've seen.
this is very very important, first i"ll address the non/ex jw then i'll address the jw's (jw's scroll down if don't wanna see the first part).
i see so many who have concluded that it was not 'god inspired', a lot of what is being done, and their conscience told them that many things conflicted with jesus teachings and the bible.

Wow! I've learned so much here
by readyornot ini got into fisty cuffs with my uber jw brother a few days ago.
not over doctrine, but the inevitable side effects of the borg.
you know, lack of love, manipulation, utter disregard for anyone's interests other than your own.

Woohoo is right! He was all about maintaining 'peace and harmony'. If that means keeping the blinders on, and my mouth shut, I'll take anarchy and chaos any day!

I've been out for over 15 years but mentally free for 6 months. My mom, bro and nieces are still in but our relationship has been strained for awhile. I think I've recently severed contact with the bro.
It still makes me sad, but knowledge is power and understanding what I've been up against all these years, has brought me a tremendous amount of peace. I like where I am now.

I got into fisty cuffs with my uber JW brother a few days ago. Not over doctrine, but the inevitable side effects of the Borg. You know, lack of love, manipulation, utter disregard for anyone's interests other than your own. Culty, culty culty!
In my brother's eyes, I'm now disfellowshipped... and why? I disagreed with him. The incredible part about the whole discussion, is I saw right through every trick he tried to pull. The circular reasoning, the threats regarding the 'consequences' of my actions. He argued semantics, my tact and threw in a ton of righteous indignation, but not ONCE did he mention the issue at hand. The fact that his wife used tears, manipulation and outright lies to cheat my cousin and save herself a few bucks. It was classic! I stayed calm and focused the whole time. Challenged his big words and corrected his misquotations and definitions. He tried to convince me that the conversation my cousin had with his wife was hearsay! What? I told him hearsay is testimony from a third party, not someone involved in the conversation but he wouldn't budge. I almost brought up the two witness JC rule as an example but held my tongue.
In the end, he wasn't able to spin a convincing argument, and ended by... 1) Repeating how 'shocked and stunned' he was. 2) Saying "So you think my wife uses manipulation to get what she wants?" Yes, sir! Out of your own mouth.
Before I would have been emotional, and easily swayed off topic. With all the advice and experiences I've read here, I was able to stand my ground. Thanks guys. It feels great!

Sick, sick, sick. How can they possibly ignore the safety and well being of these children but fuss and fume over trivial matters like facial hair! It defies logic, and proves just how warped thinking can poison so many people. How do they sleep at night?
In my old hall there was a brother that killed himself by jumping from a 23 story building. The official reason was 'he was tired, overworked and fell'. Turns out he had been raping his two daughters for years. He was a MS, and all the elders knew. I wish I didn't remember half of this stuff.

I'm 'Apostate' now....
by Butterflyleia85 ina new 'apostate'.. according to dictionary.... one who has abandoned one's religious faith, a political party, one's principles, or a cause.
toward the jehovah's witnesses.. shewww... it feels good.
weird i never thought i'd say that.. as far as my belief system... i realize they are still going to be based on my up bringing as a jehovah's witness (morals included) so i call myself a chirstian.. {gees it feels like i just hopped over the fence or something in the movie "village" haha}.

Feels good doesn't it. I 'jumped the tracks' myself... I used to be so afraid of the word apostate. Whichever road you choose, be it Christian or other, take the time to make sure it's right for you. Congrats!
