  Are These the Last Days?

  does anyone who has left the organisation still feel that these are the last days?

  all down through history people have wanted to feel that they live in special times - are jws just an extension of this?

  for me the biggest problem with this theory of the last days has been the distinct lack of earthquakes since 1914, a quote from the book signs of the times revisited says "as more and more seismographs are installed in the world, more earthquakes can be and have been located.

  Not only are there fewer earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. But where are the wars in one place after another. Sure there have been two world wars, but that ended almost 60 years ago. The only wars today are where there have been wars for centuries. In 1984 I was told by my dad that the Soviet Union would invade the United States any moment. Well, I am still waiting for that to happen. Just like we are nearing the end I suppose.

  why is it that when someone knocked on your door and said, "hey, we have the 'truth', and some of us are 'anointed'" and yet, could not prove that truth... nor even explain that anointing... you believed?.

  yet, when someone who makes that claim has absolutely no problem explaining it to you and telling you of it... blow by blow... you do not believe?.

  About my saying your posts are too long for me. I have trouble reading long posts, because of attention deficit disorder. It is hard for me to read a longer post.   Elders killed my cat

  in the late 70's, i began experiencing health problems.

  the elders wanted to know if i purchased anything new, thinking i was under demon attack.

  the only thing new in our household was a kitten.

  I would be in tears too, if the only thing left for me to do is read a Watchtower magazine. I think I would start a new hobbie first. Than waist a minute on that magazine.

  I want to let you know I appreciate your posts, perhaps a little long for me, but that is my problem not yours. I hope you are not mad at me, because I appreciated your help on my question. Don't let everyone pile on or cause you hurt. People here may not always agree with you, but the same can be said for the Christ. I do want to ask you a question, do you still consider yourself a Jehovah's Witness?
  I hope you will continue to write your beliefs.

  Dedication AND Baptism?

  didn't get much reply, but then again, there weren't many of us posting at the time.. dedication and baptism.

  in the org., the two are inextricably linked.

  As explained to me:
  You must dedicate your life to Jehovah in prayer. Before you talk to the Elders requesting baptism. Then you go over the questions they ask. Then you can be baptised. They even asked me before the questions started, if I said a prayer to Jehovah about dedicating my life to Jehovah. Therefore, Dedication and Baptism. Does this help answer your question? If not, sorry I couldn't help you.

  What is the societies motivation?

  i hear and read and form my thoughts about the insanity that was my life and those of others who experienced being a jw.

  i am still stumped.

  as much as i disagree with jw, have strong opinions about it, and feel it is very unhealthy, what is "their" motivation?

  With all due respect, because I like AGuest. I believe the Governing Body's motivation is power. They like being the top dog. As far as the average Joe in attendence at the meeting, I think their motivation is either love, or they think they truly have the truth.

  i've been doing a little research into a pharoah named akhenaten.

  been coming up with some variances in dates and would like to know if anyone else has run across this info.. akhenaten (amenhotep iv) reigned 1379-1362 bc.

  according to 'the bible timeline' moses was born in 1355 bc, right after akhenaten.

  That is quite possably the strangest thing I have ever heard. I know many JWs have burned smurfs, but not cats.

  A recovering Jehovah's Witness. Kinda like alcohol, but not as fun. Just ask J. Rutherford.
