Mmmmmmmmmm, the theologians of the most ancient universitiies in the world accept the idea of the Trinity and that includes Oxford and Cambridge. It to me has mystical meaning about the nature of life, physical and spiritual. However, I wouldn't make a big deal of it. God is difficult to conceptualise anyway and I respect Muslims etc who do not delve into the Trinity. Whatever concept one has of God is valid for that person. It's not the Arianism of the WT I abhor but it's hatred of World culture and its insistence that all except them are wrong and satanic and its high contol absurd policies on blood.

World Cup 2010 - Are you excited?

I really hope Italy will win and get 5 titles like Brazil has. Italy will probably play Denmark in the Last 16, then Spain, then Germany and finally, I hope France in the Finals. Brazil are skill-wise the greatest team and deserve to win but France know how to beat them. Of course, Italy may lose by penalties as they did in the Euros 2008 to Spain.

Hi All
After 1250 emails between my friend, Derek and I discussing why I am a Catholic
and not a JW and after sending him verses about how Christ wants to come into
our lives etc, I came to the conclusion, my friend who had not uttered one
original thought and blithely used all the logical fallacies and verbal bullying
of the WT had been and is completely controlled by Bethel. He told me he was
having a bible study with Lance who is a mechanic, by bible study, read using JW
books to interpret scripture. I told him that I study Revelations with a
Cambridge University professor, fluent in Koine Greek.
His last message to me was:
"I want to save your life. get out of Babylon thr Great!......and survive into a
new system on earth with a righteous government on earth. No politicians,
corruption, false (sic) religion, money, war, disease, murder, dying of old age,
famine. I want to be there with you my brother. Living forever on earth!!
Worshipping the one true God, Jehovah in pure worship."
I had always believed that 'worship' in a 'heavenly' realm was redundant, but
anyway. I told my friend that by this statement, he was disrespecting my faith,
my religion and my culture and that I was one of the 144 000 who would go to
heaven. He retorted "Dream on" and later retracted that cynical conversation
stopper with: "It's your choice to believe thus.
The Watchtower has now slid further down in my list of cults I cannot make sense
of to third last position above The People's Temple and The Family
International. No wait, I put the Family above them as Moses Berg in his 'Mo
Letters' often expresses admiration for the Catholic Church, something the WT
would never do!!!! -

Have you ever tried/would you try hypnotherpy?
by highdose ini know some people who swear by it.
and i know that according to the jw's its meant to be one of the ultimate wicked things to do but now that i've debunked most of what they taught me i''m starting to wonder.. .
so does anyone have experiance with this?

I tried Hypnotherapy twice, once to stop smoking and once to stop taking nicotine gum; both times it failed. Hubbard says any psycho-state such as schizophrenia can be induced through hypnotism. Mmmmm, interessant!

Myth - The Bible claims to be inspired by God
by gubberningbody inthe bible has 66 books (more if you're catholic, less if you're jewish), and multiple authors.
some of these authors claimed that some of what they wrote down was inspired by god.
that's hardly enough for someone to conclude that the bible claims inspiration for all of the words written by the multiple authors who were involved with writing "it" over the centuries.. .
-
maputo95
- The Bible myth is that the Bible is the complete and infallible "Word of God". It teaches that every word of the Bible carries equal authority, and that nothing done or said since its 66 books were completed can properly be termed "inspired".
- When we challenge this myth, we are, in fact, showing more faith in the Bible than those who teach the myth.
- The Bible itself says only that Jesus Christ is the Word (or perfect revelation) of God. (John 1:14 and Revelation 19:13-16) And the Bible itself proclaims its lack of inspiration in some passages. (e.g. 1 Corinthians 7:12, and 25) The Bible also instructs Christians: "If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God," making it clear that followers of Christ can be just as inspired today as they ever were.
- Certainly the Bible is the best record we have of the teachings of Christ, as well as the writings of many great men of God. But the real purpose behind the Bible myth is to convince people that knowing God's will is a very difficult task, requiring years of training in the Greek and Hebrew languages, an intimate knowledge of Jewish holy days and ceremonial laws, expertise in church history, and familiarity with Greek, Roman, and Jewish customs at the time of Christ.
- In actual fact, a little bit of honesty will put you miles ahead of most theologians, who seem to be more interested in scoring points for their denominational viewpoints than in finding the truth.
- The proof text for the Bible myth is Paul's statement that all Scriptures (holy writings) are inspired by God and are helpful to followers of God. (2 Timothy 3:16)
- However, when Paul reminded Timothy a few moments later to bring the cloak and parchments he left at Troas (2 Timothy 4:13) it was clear that he did not see this as a "holy writing" inspired by God with eternal significance to men of God everywhere!
- Many holy writings are, indeed, found in the Bible; and prophetic books such as The Revelation must be treated with special care (see Revelation 22:18-19), since true prophets do not write opinions, but relay messages just as they receive them from God. (See 2 Peter 1:20-21) Often these messages are not clear until they actually come to pass, and altering them to fit an imperfect interpretation can be quite dangerous.
- But to be inspired and to be profitable are not the same as to be infallible. Nor do all passages rate equally with regard to their profitability. For example, we no longer stone adulterers, or practice polygamy; so why should we place the rest of the Jewish Old Testament on a par with the teachings of Christ? And why rate an apostle's writings equal to Christ's teachings?

I agree with you and some saintly scholar once said that it's a miracle that some of God's truth stands out in some of the Bible's more dubious writing. Happy Christmas.

The Blood Issue-My Exchange with a JW

Dear All
Please free to comment on the exchange below, I am having with an ex-JW who is thinking of returning to the WTBTS after being inactive for 30 years:
Me:
The mark of a cult is NOT following Buddha. Buddhism is a world religion and not a cult! A cult exercises total contol over its adherents, ie 4 meetings per week and door-to-door propagation. It always states that it is the only "truth" and only means of saving the world or surviving an apocalypse. It tells its followers that its "apostates" are evil and must be shunned. Many cults state that they follow Jesus and Jehovah, eg, Seventh Day Adventists, Mormons and Moonies as well as Children of God, Tim Jones and Jesus Christians Levitus is mostly about how to slaughter animals and Jewish dietary laws-kosher food. Its prohibition on eating blood is NOT the same as a prohibition on blood transfusions which were not done in Old Testament times. Jewish dietary laws have NO binding on Christians and, in any case, eating blood is NOT the same as having a transfusion in order to survive. This regulation by WTBTS was only brought out in the 1930s
Him:
I am no longer prepared to read your tirade of insults about the WTBTS
Discussions over
PLEASE READ ACTS 15:29 – NEW TESTAMENT
THIS BACKS UP THE OLD TESTAMENT COMMAND IN LEVITICUS ABOUT ABSTAINING FROM BLOOD
THE WITNESSES WHO REFUSED BLOOD TRANSFUSIONS BASED THEIR DECISIION ON THEIR OWN CONSCIENCES - OBEYING GOD’S COMMAND ON THE SANCTITUY OF BLOOD.
THE WITNESSES WHO REFUSED TO BUY POLITICAL PARTY CARDS IN MALAWUI IN THE 60’S AND 70’S, ALSO DID SO ACCORDING TO THEIR OWN CONSCIENCES – NOT PART OF SATAN’S POLITICAL SYSTEM
(THE SAME REASON MANY WERE BEATEN, KILLED AND JAILED IN OTHER LANDS WHERE POLITICAL INITIMIDATION TO BE A MEMBER OF A POLITICAL PARTY, WAS RIFE – IE. MOZAMBIQUE, GUINEA, ZAMBIA IN THE 60’S, ANGOLA, ZIM, LIBERIA, SOME BALTIC STATES, ETC
END OF DISCUSSION
Me:
NO, NOT THE END OF DISCUSSION-ACTS:15:29, IS A SUGGESTION THAT GENTILES ENTERING THE MAINLY JEWISH CHRISTIAN SECT SHOULD REFRAIN FROM EATING BLOOD. IT DOES NOT PROHIBIT BLOOD TRANSFUSIONS TO SAVE LIFE WHICH DIDN'T OCCUR THEN THE WITCHTOWER HAS TAKEN A FRAGMENT OF NT AND USES IT TO MURDER THOSE UNDER ITS SWAY. THE ISSUE WAS LATER DEBATED BY THE CHURCH IN THE NEW TESTAMENT AND IT WAS DECIDED THAT GENTILES BECOMING CHRISTIANS WOULD BE EXEMPT FROM KOSHER LAWS AND ABSTAINING ROM EATING BLOOD. WAKE UP. THE WITCHTOWER LEAVES IT UP TO INDIVIDUAL CASES ONLY TO AVOID LAW SUITS FOR WILLFUL MANSLAUGHTER.
I'VE LIVED IN MALAWI AND IT WAS TOTALLY UNNECESSARY FOR BRAINWASHED WITNESSES TO SUFFER PERSECUTION FOR CARRYING A CARD, WHICH IS ALL THAT WAS NEEDED. THE BIBLE SAYS GIVE UNTO CAESAR WHICH IS CAESAR, WE HAVE SOCIAL AND POLITICAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND ALL GOVERNMENTS ARE THERE ON GOD'S SUFFRANCE!!
WE AGAIN DIFFER ON PURE LOGIC!!
Him:
It is up to the conscience of the Christian involved whether he takes blood or buys a political party card – he bases his decision on what he believes a Christian should do.
Unlike the Jews who were put into death camps for being Jewish, the Witnesses in Germany were incarcerated in death camps due to the CHOICE they made NOT to join Hitler’s army or make the Nazi salute.
They could have taken the easy way out and just go along with the rest of the intimidated population to escape persecution…. But they didn’t take the easy way out – they were NOT prepared to compromise their neutrality.
Jesus said that christians would be persecuted for their beliefs and for not having any part of the world.
Paying taxes is paying Ceasar’s things to Caesar - but NOT joining up with the political parties, joining armies, etc , which would be in direct conflict with God’s requirements.
True christians don’t compromise their beliefs like the masses in Christendom.
CLEAR CUT
END OF DISCUSSION – I have no further comments on these clear cut issues and my final answers to any further weak arguments or puerile comments are as above…

THE REVELATION, ITS GRAND CLIMAX AT HAND"
by maputo95 indo you have the revelation, its grand climax at hand" book"?
it is a fascinating book backed up throughout with scriptures will open your eyes but you must read it from beginning to end.. the above is a quote from my jw friend, inactive for 30 years and thinking of sheepishly returning.
is the book cited above a scholarly and dependable commentary on revelation?.
-
maputo95
Thank you all for all your logical, well considered responses. I am reluctant to ignore university ideas which have been made over 1000 years in favour of the comic book approach of some cultists in Brooklyn who neither speak Greek in which Revelations was badly written or look at any other interpretations other than those that fit their 'theology'

please comment.
My JW friend's retort is typical JW apologetics:
THE SOCIETY’S THINKING HAS BEEN REFINED OVER THE YEARS ON MINOR ISSUES AND THE TRUTH HAS BECOME CLEARER AND CLEARER AS WE APPROACH JEHOVAH’S DAY
What is Jehovah's Day?
