Avatar, interesting notions which you intoduce and if one considered the Bible largely symbolic many interpretations can be made of certain scenes and narratives. This symbolic exegesis can give rise to more mystical interpretations of Scripure in a Jungian or Kierkegaardinian sense.

God Created Man Through Evolution
by maputo95 ini tend to believe that the book of genesis is allegorical and not historic.
the first part including the flood is a creation story similar to many others, although the jewish one has distinct insights into man's relationship with god.
another literary device employed is anthropomorphism or personification as in the talking snake, aka satan.

Thanks to you all for these helpful and clesrly written suggestions which I'll act on.The one JW sleight of logic that I cannot comprehend is that eating blood and transfusing blood are the same and are both the intaking of blood. Eaten blood goes through your stomuch and becomes food which is not the same as transfusing blood which enters a vein and is NOT eaten but augments the blood in the system as an organ. How are these processes the same? THe thinking A=B=C is that of a survival mechanicism in the subconscious, ie smoke = fire- type of thing.

The first part including the Flood is a creation story similar to many others, although the Jewish one has distinct insights into man's relationship with God. Another literary device employed is anthropomorphism or personification as in the talking snake, aka Satan. Bottom line is that I, personally believe God, as I understand him, created man through evolution, a belief, I think Teilhard held. I don't think belief in Evolution negates any of my christological beliefs or my belief in spirit, including humans as souls inhabiting bodies. Problem is that my good friend thinks I am blasphemous for currently holding these views. He is also livid when I point out absurdities and errors in the Bible as well as disgusting morality in the Old Testament. My friend who is very intelligent and has been away from the WT for 40 years has refound "Jehovah ", sic and is trying to convert me. We have had 2000 emails between us disagreeing about many theological and historic points and he has NEVER once come up with a personal argument but repeats the same, old tired propaganda tricks of the WT. WHEN I POINT OUT A BLATANT CONTRADICTION IN SCRIPTURES OR ASK FOR BIBLICAL PROOF OF HIS WT ASSERTIONS, HE ALWAYS SAYS THAT HE'LL GET BACK TO ME ON THAT BUT HE NEVER DOES.
ANY SUGGESTIONS ON HOW TO EXPLAIN TO HIM THAT HIS TOLERANCE ON MY VIEWS WOULD BE PREFERABLE TO HIM ASSUMING THE DEFENDER OF JEHOVAH (SIC) AND ARGUING ABSURD POSITIONS HIMSELF.
It is not pleasant to see an interesting and formerly free individual reenter the WT, a bit like going back to Hell to collect a pack of cigarettes you left there.

Validity of JW Baptism
by maputo95 inplease could someone tell me what is said in a jw baptism?
i was told that jw baptisms are invalid because they do not baptise in the "name of the father and of the son and of the holy spirit.
because of this invalid baptism a catholic cannot marry a jw with church approval, i think.

Thanks Gopher-so no mention by the baptiser of the Father, Son and Holy Ghost? If these words are absent, aren't they going against Scipture as Matthew 28:19 says:
- ". . .baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the holy spirit,. . ."

Does anyone know about JW's in Africa
by Brocephus ini am seriously considering taking a leave of absence to travel to east africa, kenya, sudan or maybe tanzania.
i may be there volunteering with a secular organization or with a non-denomination christian ministry.
i got my story down here pat, raised a jw, told other christians evil hypocrites out for my blood, wandered the earth ingesting every drug i could find, had a moment and realized most christians are just like anyone else doing the best they can.

Hi Brocephus. In the countries I know well-Zimbabwe, Zambia, Mozambique, Malawi, South Africa and Botswana, most people treat the Witnesses as if they were a cult and definitely not Christians, especially by Born-Agains. I have been to East Africa on quick journies but do not know what it's really like. I loved Nairobi and Mombasa but was not allowed into Tanzania in 1989.
The African Witnesses also have the arrogant attitude that only they are saved and that all other Christians are satanic so the only interaction they have is to try to convert Christians to the WT "Truth".
About mentioning your JW past. It all depends on your current status and your spiritual goals.

The Marks the WT is God's Only Org on Earth
by maputo95 inwith monotous regularity, my jw friend says the proof that the org is god's only divinely inspired org on earth is the fact that they go door to door.
how should i respond to this convuluted logic?.

Hi Tenebreux
Please give me a reference for Jesus's saying that transferring from door to door should be avoided. The bottom line is that it is NOT a good way of spreading the Gospel or whatever the Witnesses spread which sure isn't the Gospel. That is why less and less salesmen appear at doors.

Scientology really is a lot like the JW's
by dissed inat the edge of arid foothills far outside los angeles, hundreds of scientology followers live on a gated, 500-acre campus and work long hours for almost no pay reproducing the works of founder l. ron hubbard and creating the church's teaching and promotional materials.. the church says its 5,000 so-called sea organization members are religious devotees akin to monks who are exempt from wage requirements and overtime.
but two lawsuits filed by two former sea org members, as they are known, allege the workers are little more than slave laborers, forced to work 100-hour weeks for pennies and threatened with manual labor if they cause trouble.. i don't feel the wt's bethel is quite this bad,...... but it's not far from it.
(as one who used to work there says) lol.

I have studied both Scientology and Watchtower doctrines and I can say, hand on my heart that there are many things in Hubbard's writings which have helped me in life, especially in the field of study technology. I still read Ron's work with fascination treating him as just another philosopher. I have done some cheap but fun basic courses and have enjoyed them. I am public in Scientology and belong to a mainstream Christian church. To me Scientology is a self-improvement org. They do not attack other religions in the blatant way that the JWs do. Now, the WT is probably the least useful high-control group I have ever encountered. I feel their exegesis is pathetically bad and their drilling of their proselytes, shallow and predictible. I dislike their scorn and hatred of European culture. They are boring. I love and pray for all, including JWs and Scientologists. They have a right to use whatever they want.
