You could definitely write to the Watchtower, Bible & Tract Society... but don't send request to Brooklyn. Address it to Walkill, NY (don't know the zip). I don't remember a street address being necessary... the post office knows where they are! :)

What about the children?
by sweetone2377 ini feel sorry for all jw's who get sucked in by the thinking "we will love you as long as you are good enough for jah.
" but, i feel worse for the children.
adults are able to decide for themselves, whether it's a religion that they want to persue.

I never felt that I was missing out on too much as a child. My folks were GREAT and we had lots of parties (even around holiday times, but not holiday-themed) I believe just so my bro. & I wouldn't feel like we were missing out. The one thing I DO remember at school was Valentine's day. In grade school we all had to make envelope "pockets" to put out in front of our desks. Then the class spent 2 days making valentine's cards for their friends (I of course, got dismissed to the library... I loved to read so I don't remember feeling that bad). On THE day, everyone got to put their cards in each others envelopes. I got a TON of cards in mine... but remember feeling soooo bad that I couldn't give out any cards to the kids myself. At 7 years old I remember my first real feeling of embarassment at that... I felt awful.

Welcome FormerOne!
I just want to say to everyone that I just cannot believe how many individuals who are now out (or thinking of coming out) were/are Pioneers, Overseers, Aux.'s, etc. I used to think that all "apostates" or whatever people prefer to call themselves MUST be the weaker sort...People who always have been on the fringes...or the ones who "just got by". I guess that just ain't so! -

Amazing... how true. I remember reading on one of the sites that an elder da'd himself directly after giving a Memorial talk. Realized halfway through the talk that he just couldn't take it anymore. Finished up, went home, and never returned. You really just never know what is going on in the minds and hearts of people in the KH. I find this sooo fascinating. -Jbean

NYC Gal... I truly can't believe you actually wrote that! If you have been reading through the posts, it's extremely obvious. Plus, I noted that you were just on the live chat. There are many JW's that come on this board and talk about their issues. Are you going to be around?

Pepper Spray
by mikepence inafter considering purchasing a handgun for self protection, our family decided that pepper spray would be a safer, effective, solution.. so, i went out and bought some today.. i wonder how many jw's realize that if an elder finds out that you bought pepper spray for self-defense (even against animals!
) that you would be counselled by the elders?.
i remember an elder telling me about this being in a letter to elders.

Well... I betcha they wouldn't be too impressed with my having a few viles of pepper spray along with a stun gun under the seat of my car! Guns I don't think I would ever do (too much of a chicken) but I think all congregations are very different on this. My bro. is a MS in a neighboring cong. and his wife (my sis-in-law) and HER sister, also a JW, went to shooting school and have small, pretty little handguns. (Their dad is not a JW and insisted they learn gun safety and stuff for their own safety...) Hmmmm... do ya think the elders know? I WILL NEVER TELL since I don't want to wreck my brother's "thing". I wonder what people would do if their purses "spilled" during a meeting and the pretty little gun flew out into the aisle??? : )

Still Not Sure,
Welcome! As I've stated a few times to the newbies who are "newer" than me (I've only been posting for about 1 week!) I share so MANY of the same issues/concerns as you do. I'm in... but not really, if you get my drift. I've missed soooooo many meetings this past year I've lost count, but since I live in another town from my folks, it's been easy to keep it a "secret" from them. As far as my congregation goes... no phone calls, no nothing. I get invited to the occassional get-together, but so far have made excuses not to go to each and every one of them. I just don't have the energy to deal with the "friends" at this point in time. Like you, I'm searching. And as I've also mentioned before... scared to death to make a break. Talk about all hell breaking loose.... I'm sorry about your work situation... you may want to start a job search for another corporation. Believe me, my office environment provides my ONLY sanity at times! Talk to you soon! JBean

help with ngo!!!
by mindfield inhi everyone!
well, im a newbie here, so ill make this short!
ive showed my mom the ngo status the watchtower shared with the un for 10 years now... of course, shes now denying it was a bad decision... she says the un is bad as a whole, but joining in as an ngo is okay since its not directly with the un... any tips?

JBean
Welcome ! I was a newbie not too long ago!
All I can suggest is that you read through the thread on what is now "page 2" of this site that has about 280 responses. it's about the NGO and WtB... also check out Randy's site. Lot's of good stuff there about "how to" talk to your family about things like this. It's a lot to digest... take it slow. :)

New Light and the UN
by individual inhttp://www.jehovahs-witness.com/forum/thread.asp?d=9882&site=3#117571.
the link above is from a thread in bible reseach posted by bible examiner last month concerning impending new light on the 'disgusting thing standing in a holy place' and how it is no longer going to be the un but has had its fulfillment completely in the first century.
this apparently was from a talk given by a circuit overseer.. why this is interesting is because, at the time the information concerning the un and the wt was not widely known on this site.

Hi Individual,
I would suggest you post this thread on the Main board. It gets much more "traffic" and I think many would be very interested in hearing what you have to say. I only came across it in this thread because I was 'surfing'... many times I don't have time so I just stick to the main board... which it looks like most folks do. I'll look for it there! Thanks...
