HenryP: I did not comment to make fun of JW's... I am STILL a JW although inactive. What I was commenting on was the sheer inappropriateness of much of what is given from the platforms, either at assemblies or local Kingdom Halls.
Don't even BEGIN to tell me that the brothers don't give these examples when they fit their needs. I was born and raised a JW and from as far back as I can remember I've always heard.... "now, if so&so was doing this & such instead of WORLDLY things... it would've gone much better for them..." This sad experience with this young kid just brought this thought of how it would never be used at a convention to mind.

Why I Became an Inactive Witness
by Dutchy ini used to be a gungho witnesses.
i was even a full time pioneer with small children and i used to drag my kids with me from door to door, in the heat of summer and in the cold of winter.
goin from door to door in buildings where crime was rampant and where i should not have been in the first place.

I'd suggest also reading Crisis of Conscience by Ray Franz. Also his follow-up book, In Search of Christian Freedom. That will help you personally get "centered" around what you're feeling and believing before you begin to try to speak with others. "Crisis" is kind of like a "look behind the curtain" book... you get a first-hand experience of what really goes on in Brooklyn.

Sad event. I agree tho', you'd never hear THIS experience at an assembly... but you could be sure, if he crashed into another car on his way to a party/movie, etc. instead of going out in service.... THAT would be something to devote to a skit to intimidate the youth!

Do you think Jerry & Pat should go to Bethel?
by Mindchild ini read something a bit shocking and wanted to pass it on to you to view for yourself.. doctor jerry falwell and pat robertson had a exchange on the 700 club that implyied that terrorist attacks against the us were deserved, and the result of divine judgment.
when i went on to read what they had to say, i just couldn't help but think that these guys should be working for the watchtower.. the entire transcript of the 13 sep 2001 conversation between falwell and robertson can be found on the people for the american way web site: http://www.pfaw.org/issues/liberty/robertson_falwell.shtml i quoted part of it here:.
falwell: ....and i agree totally with you that the lord has protected us so wonderfully these 225 years.

I'm not surprised at these comments... these guys have been ranting for years now. I think ANYTHING in the extreme should be avoided like the plague!!!! Yes, they of all people should know better, but they're too taken up with their own power to recognize how absolutely UN-Christlike they are! Just my 2 cents! : )

All JWs have already been disfellowshipped!
by Pablo inive been visiting this site for about 8 months, just taking in all your comments and the issues that are of importance to those who have been jehovahs witnesses and the problems that you have identified with the religion.
i was brought up in the truth in the 60s and 70s but my parents left before i reached the age when i would consider being baptised.
subsequently my parents divorced but have remarried separately and are both back in the religion.

Whoa. Ummm... does this person have a website or anything? I'm definitely NOT joining any other group anytime soon, and I'm not even sure if I'll be able to look into this anytime soon... but I'm curious about EVERYTHING now, and I don't believe it would harm me (or any of us for that matter) to take a look if we're so inclined.

Hi TheStar, and welcome. Well... unfortunately I can't e-mail you (for obvious anonymity reasons) but I can tell you that it's not easy. Constantly putting up with questions as to why I don't attend, don't I feel well?, you know you should do this or that... etc. It does try my patience... but I'm hoping that SLOWLY, by VERY VERY small things I say on occasion to them, will help wake them up. I also live in a different area than most of my family... so that helps... they don't really have any contact with anyone from "my" congregation, so they don't know the full scoop of what's (not) going on! I wish I could say more to help, but right now I'm still figuring it all out too. My advice is to just keep coming here! These folks have been through it all and their experiences are a huge help. Also helpful are the sites run by members here, such as Randy's. Keep searching! Hope to hear more of your "story" soon... hugs... Jbean
