  Covid-19 (Coronavirus) - Status Update Thread

  this topic is to focus on status updates & advice (no opinion or politics please).. status.

  latest status is that it's serious, probably isn't going to be contained and most large companies are making contingency plans, cancelling large events etc... which i don't think would happen if it was just people being alarmist.

  the incubation period means it may have already spread further and infected many more people than are currently known, so expect jumps in the numbers over the coming days and weeks.. tracking.

  Jehovah's Witnesses Mistaken Ideas About What The Bible Teaches

  I’d say another major one is the way they dismiss the many thousands of early Christian martyrs as not being genuine followers of Christ, and therefore not of the 144,000 and going to heaven.

  They have to dismiss them in order for their theology to work since there is much historical evidence that many more than 144,000 were martyred. Which makes none of the current GB anointed, if the limit on those going to heaven is to be believed.

  The arrogance of that, and the fact only they can properly interpret the scriptures, is probably their greatest delusion.

  as sgt pepper sang, "it was 20 years ago today" ... that i made my first post on my first forum.. i obviously didn't put too much thought into what it should say although i must have burned 45 posts testing things and was too lazy to reset the counter before going live (?):.

  Congratulations Simon and Angharad (beautiful name btw)!!

  This was the first site I came across and one of things that grabbed me was how hilarious some of the posts were!! There’s rarely a day when something doesn’t make me chuckle (especially Stan lol )

  Its really absolutely no exaggeration to say this site is a treasure trove on all things Watchtower - the history, Personal experiences, scandals, current policy, old policy and many, many incredible posters. Writers, historians, comedians, musicians...aren’t we a talented bunch!!!

  There really is no subject connected with the watchtower that hasn’t been investigated, pored over , philosophized over and sung about that you can’t find on this site! It’s no wonder it pops up second on a google search of Jehovahs witnesses.

  Sadly we have lost in death many wonderful people, but their words live on right here on this site and will benefit “overlapping generations” of doubting Jehovah’s witnesses to come.

  We all owe you a debt of gratitude. Very much like a Paul Grundy your self-effacing manner as you quietly work in the background, year on year, for the benefit of those in need, ironically, represents the very supportive Christian attitude the watchtower purports to exemplify. But as we all now know, watchtower is the very antithesis of that selfless, modest attitude.

  You and Angharad really put them to shame.

  One theory is that even if a face-mask doesn't stop infection completely, by reducing the dosage you get, the virus could develop more slowly and give your body more time to respond so you get milder symptoms vs being blasted with a heavy dose and it getting overwhelmed. This may be why medical staff are hit so hard with it - too much sudden exposure in a short time-period.

  That's for airborne transmission. It also prevents you touching your own face which helps prevent the other major method of transmission.

  The messaging we were being told that "face-masks don't help" is a lie. The message was really "they damn well do help but we didn't think to stock up enough so we want you to not have them so we can". I understand that healthcare workers need them and should have them. The problem isn't regular people buying them, it's healthcare management not doing their job.

  Simon yes yes yes!!! I’ve been saying all along, very much like HIV, the viral load of the person who infects you and the method of infection(ie for example those who contracted it as I.v. Drug user’s via a “bolus “ dose) affected the prognosis of the person who caught it. Ie the stage of the disease in the infected makes a difference to your chance of survival and I’m certain it’s a similar situation with Covid19.

  And yes, masks work! We can’t get them but I’ve been ordering my teen’s to wear cotton”bandanas” over their mouth and nose, then carefully removed and boil washed (if you have a dishwasher that will do the trick)

  Now the W.H.O. are similarly advising people to use them.

  2020 Memorial - No Need To Actually Have The Emblems

  over at jw talk they're saying because they're having to hold the upcoming memorial at home, they dont need to actually have the emblems.

  apparently, listening to or watching the talk is the thing that counts.. "do this in rememberence of me" apparently means watching tony morris on your phone give a talk.. this begs the question... "what's the point?

  Marvel's new characters XD

  luckily for me, i'm not interested in marvel at all - i never read the comics as a kid; i haven't seen any of the films as an adult.. but, i still think some of their new characters are worth mentioning.. here are two: snowflake and safe space.

  no, i'm not kidding.. here's a little vid by a youtuber called just some guy.

  he's a keen comic reader and loves that kinda stuff … but not the latest characters.. he's spliced clips of ricky gervais laughing his ass off with an interview with marvel writer and balding, bespectacled beta male, daniel kibblesmith.. enjoy!.

  What I notice about many of these comic artists is when they attempt to draw ‘diverse’ characters they seem to jump from one race to another all the time. I noticed it with Glenn in the walking dead...oftentimes he’d morph in to Maggie. 🤔This character “Trail Blazer” even in this promo jumps from black to white to black again. I guess maybe they need to employ some actually diverse artists, instead of giving the ethnics “fantasy jobs”.🙄

  they were told to risk imprisonment to keep meeting and preaching because "we must obey god rather than men".

  while here in the u s. we voluntarily cancel meetings and preaching because "we need to be in subjection to the superior authorities".

  When Watchtower seems to be being responsible it is only because it benefits them, not because it’s the right thing to do.

  No. 1 the GB and upper echelon are older and know full well if the virus got a foothold in the congregations it would rip through the whole organization in no time. They are protecting their own lives, first and foremost, Why do you think the first order they gave was no Bethel visits? After that, of course, they are protecting their main income-generating assets.....the publishers. They know what side their bread is buttered.

  I pity those poor Russian dubs if the virus gets in to the Russian prison system, which it will. I can’t imagine the hygiene and healthcare is up to much in those Russian “gulags”.
