I'll also add modern witnesses count time standing by a trolley or, now, writing letters. Whereas the older generation's dedication to the house to house ministry, and the amount of walking that entailed, served as a balance for their otherwise sedentary lifestyle. Driven by Watchtower's aversion to exercise, I believe this walking was a preventative for the diseases I mentioned so prevalent among modern JWs.
Atlantis what do you think? I know you've seen many changes yourself....have you noticed that the old style witness was lithe and long lived, the more recent witness obese and depressed??

I call bullshit on the 20,000 deaths as well. Statistically being one of Jehovah’s witnesses puts you at a higher risk for respiratory illness. Unless many had a secret cigarette smoking habit and never got caught.
The reason Jehovah's witnesses have a higher rate of respiratory illnesses (and I don't doubt a higher rate for heart disease, diabetes, osteoarthritis and probably certain types of preventable cancers) is explained by evolutionary medicine.
The problem is Watchtower's historical aversion to sports and any form of regular exercise that takes time away from the organization.
Exercise in youth lays down bone mass which is a preventative in osteoarthritis. Exercise helps prevent respiratory illnesses, heart disease and diabetes. Exercise and maintaining healthy weight lowers risk of some forms of cancer (colorectal, uterine and breast for eg).
I think, given their demographic, 20,000 deaths out of 8 million JWs sounds a more than reasonable number.

According to Director Walensky, the only benefit from the vaccine now is presumably that it reduces the severity of symptoms.
But Vidqun when we say the vaccine "only" reduces severity of symptoms, what we're really talking about is death.The difference between having the vaccine and not having the vaccine is between feeling really ill and dying.
That's a pretty big "only".
However I'm not allowing my 15 year olds to have the vaccine. Particularly since they've already had Covid. So they're already carrying some immunity, which protects any elderly they may come in contact with. They are also super careful with hand washing, hygiene and mask wearing.

in the past this was a great place for debate, news and support for ex jws.

You won't get any argument from me on that score.
There's absolutely zero freedom to express your views unless it accords with prevailing beliefs and even though those beliefs often do coincide with my own, it drives me mad that people can't express differing opinions!!
There's so many knee jerk responses if you even BEGIN to say anything positive about Jehovah's witnesses, even if it's A) True and B) almost totally unrelated to cult life.
For example I dared to suggest that I've known some damned good Jehovah's witness marriages (or ones that began as such) and that the basis for many worldly marriages are just as superficial as watchtower ones (ie lust, money, what kind of motorbike, music, job or tattoos someone possesses 😜🤣) and even though I assured them it was a big generalisation you would have thought I'd suggested that everyone get married by watchtower moonie style!!!

Jesus, without sin and a perfect human being ?
by smiddy3 inhow could he be, regardless of how god impregnated mary, as she was a sinful human just like the rest of us according to the bible.. mary was subjected to the adamic sin like all other humans, so jesus had to at least be part sinner himself.. to believe otherwise is just deluding oneself imho .. the only way jesus could have been really without sin is if god created him the same way he created adam.. what do you think ?

David Splane's apostate warning convention talk
by neat blue dog ini know this recent video has been talked about already but i just watched it and here are a few things that got me annoyed as usual:.
splane says that if a bible student says he saw some negative information from apostates and asks us to explain it, we shouldn't look at it or address anything specifically, but instead we should tell them to go to meetings and hear what we have to say about ourselves and also tell them to befriend people at the hall.
for any person with integrity and/or intelligence, this is not a satisfactory answer.
