tec, no. I wasn't trying to pressure you. I'm genuinely interested in what you found and thanks for the info you provided. I've heard lots of stories comparing Jesus with pagan gods and it's very discouraging. I've been having doubts with Christianity because of that. There is so much stuff on my to do list to research that I haven't touched on this one yet. I will eventually get to it. You bring out a good point about December 25 though. When I watched the zeitgeist movie I thought it was very strange that that was used as a basis for comparison.

Who do you think this is talking about?
by awildflower in"this day has given the earth an entirely new aspect.
the world would have gone to destruction had there not streamed forth from him who is now born a common blessing.
rightly does he judge who recognizes in this birthday the beginning of life; now is that time ended when men pitied themselves for being born.

Just got a visit from my mother....
by its_me! inshe came by tonight.
i was glad to see her, but it was so mentally exhausting.
she is a very devoted jw, and the whole time, i was trying to say everything just right so as not to "tip her off" to my mindset.

its_me!,
I'm having the same problem in dealing with my mom. I don't have much advise because this all started for me a few weeks ago and it's not over yet. But I just wanted to tell you to not feel alone, a lot of us are going through this. Quandry is right about your relationship with your mom. I was planning on using the excuse with my mom that I stop going to the meetings because I was depressed but it didn't work out that way and now she knows that I'm having major doubts about the religion. It's hard because I don't want to loose my mom but I'm not going back to the meetings.

I'm new here
by Diamonds ini stumbled across this website a few months back and have often read the topics posted but this is the first time that i've posted anything myself.. all my family are jws - i got baptized when i was 17 but started to fade when i was about 20 and finally left at 22 when i managed to escape to university and move away from home.
ten years on and i am still out of the org but never disfellowshipped (although i would have been if they'd have known what i've been up to!).
the relationship with my family is not great - i get on with some members better than others.

Were you ever too embarrssed to offer certain mags or books?
by highdose ini recall towards the end looking at the magazines and thinking " i can't offer that!
people will think we are nutcases!
" hahahaha more fool me!.

doublelife
Yes. I never would offer the mags when the cover article was about religion. I just felt it was too offensive. How are you suppose to preach to someone when your putting them on the defense?

The world's only immortal animal
The turritopsis nutricula species of jellyfish may be the only animal in the world to have truly discovered the fountain of youth.
Since it is capable of cycling from a mature adult stage to an immature polyp stage and back again, there may be no natural limit to its life span. Scientists say the hydrozoan jellyfish is the only known animal that can repeatedly turn back the hands of time and revert to its polyp state (its first stage of life).
The key lies in a process called transdifferentiation, where one type of cell is transformed into another type of cell. Some animals can undergo limited transdifferentiation and regenerate organs, such as salamanders, which can regrow limbs. Turritopsi nutricula, on the other hand, can regenerate its entire body over and over again. Researchers are studying the jellyfish to discover how it is able to reverse its aging process.
Because they are able to bypass death, the number of individuals is spiking. They're now found in oceans around the globe rather than just in their native Caribbean waters. "We are looking at a worldwide silent invasion," says Dr. Maria Miglietta of the Smithsonian Tropical Marine Institute.

can a unmarried man be made an elder ?
by looloo inmy brother inlaw has been made a min servant age 21 and as yet has shown no interest in women !.
-
doublelife
Yes. There was a single brother in my old hall that got df'd for homosexuality. Got reinstated and a few years back became an elder. He had to step down as an elder because he started nursing school and couldn't handle all of it. But he's still in good standing.

How do you cope with boredom at meetings?
by MMXIV inwhat did/do you use to cope with boredom at the meetings?.
as sad as this sounds, when i was a kid and desperate for anything to do at a meeting, i used to count the punctuation in each wt study article.
i had a system.

This is a gross and embarrassing but when I was little I used to pick at my lip. When I got into my teenage years and even though adulthood I would take my time with rubbing in lotion on each one of my culticles. I had the softest hands in the congregation. That kept me busy with the first half of the meeting. During the second half I would try to make it look like I was paying attention but I'd really be half asleep and daydreaming.
