My childhood friend was sexually molested by her brother. At the time I did not have a clue it was going on. I just knew that she wanted to spend as much time at my house as humanly possible. And she wouldn't let me step foot in her house. If I did go to her house she would quickly rush me into her room and lock the door. She was part of a large family. Her mom was always bouncing from man to man. The one good man her mother found, didn't stay with her long. He had 3 girls of his own and his 12 year old daughter ended up pregnant. I now wonder if that baby wasn't conceived by my friend's brother and if that wasn't what made this man leave so quickly.
I didn't find out about any of this until a few years ago when this brother married a sister in the congregation who happened to be my sister's best friend. And he started molesting her young daughter. This sister filed for divorce and went to the elders. They of course told her she had to have proof. This was when she went to his family and found out about my friend and what went on with her. And that her mother knew what was going on and wouldn't come forward or say anything. They kept it all hidden. And of course the offender was repentant so nothing got announced. He still attends meetings and works at the local Wal Mart. I see him all the time.
Another offender locally was arrested and served time in prison. There was even an article about him in the newspaper. He molested his daughter as well. But because apparently his psychologist has diagnosed him as a sex addict they cannot disfellowship him because he could sue them or something stupid. So for those of you who are disfellowshipped for fornication, go see a shrink and have them say you are a sex addict and sue the congregation. Because apparently that is illegal.

Suddenly - JWs are coming at me out of NOWHERE!
by babygirl30 ini have had 2 really nice experiences running into jws recently, and just wanted to share that even though most are still 'stuck up' and make the choice to shun me - there are still some really good ones out there that don't take the org directions on dfing seriously - and those are the ones i respect and continue to hold in high regard:.
1. my buddy that was in my circle of 'friends' when a jw texted me out the blue tues night.
i didn't remember him (saved only his 1st name in my phone) and just could not figure out who it was.

There are some good ones. When I lost all my grandparents in a matter of 8 months time....I found out the ones that were still decent in our area as well. Considering that my grandmother on my father's side still claimed JW as her religion, even though my grandfather did not, they had a JW funeral. So of course a few of them attended. And some spoke to me and were quite friendly. They even seemed very happy to see me. One was shocking to me. An elder who I used to vehemently despise, seems to have made a turn around over the last ten years. He came up to me and asked about me and my children and seemed genuinely interested in our wellfare and did not once ask when I planned to return. So yes I do think there are some good people in the religion, just as there are good people in all religions everywhere.

We eloped! Course he wasn't a JW. Actually my parents had never met him. And it was the best thing I had ever done. I'd only known him for 32 days, was 18 years old, and ended up pregnant 3 weeks later. Was a rough way to get started in the world. But we are still married 13 years later. It's had it's rough moments. But I have 2 beautiful little...well not so little anymore, girls and I seem to be doing better than anyone my age I grew up with in the KH which I find rather amusing.

List of family/friends lost to the Watchtower cult? (suicides)
by hubert inafter reading about puternuts (ari) suicide, and also reading about sabine and js losing their daughter to this cult, i think it would be a fitting memorial, so to speak, to write a list of all the people we know who died because of this cult.
i also know that cruzanheart lost her dad to it, too.
i'm sure there are many here that can make a list of suicides brought on by the shunning/threatening policies of the watchtower cult.

My sister was engaged to a young brother when she was 19/20. My father called his congregation to see if he was 'in good standing' and apparently the brother had been lying to my sister. My father forced her to break it off. He commited suicide the next day. His name was Patrick Riley II. I was 12 or so at the time. He was like a brother to me.
I also had a friend who was schizophrenic. He would tell me stories of the things he saw and I was one of the few who would not accuse him of being demonized. He told me the elders were constantly pirvately reproving him for things he had no control over due to his illness. I found out that just a few years ago he also commited suicide.

Pink Songbooks - Green Bibles
by nicolaou inthose of us who've been around long enough will understand the title.
what we are looking for here are examples of the society's lack of taste.. for example, i'm sure our kingdom hall wasn't the only one in the 70's with dark brown carpeting that rose halfway up the walls and a nice trendy rubber plant in the corner of the platform!.

I think my dad still has the pink songbook and green bible. And all that other old literature that makes your shelves look like a crayola box.

I'm trying to lose weight and get healthy too. I quit smoking July 1st, and decided the weight was the next step. I've been trying to eat healthier and have been walking everyday for the last six weeks and so far that hasn't done anything. Kinda frustrating:(
