I found a bunch of old WT material in a recycle bin once. I fetched things of interest for my counter-cult info. I was glad someone dumped it (I would hesitate to throw out Christian lit.), perhaps because they were disillusioned. Does the WT say anything about disposing of old material? I would assume they would say to place it somewhere?

The WT was once the largest publisher in the world. Even porn magazines are suffering in the internet age. I still think there is a place for literature, but door knocking and mags are not the most effective means to reach people. The evangelical church is growing exponentially because of the power of the Spirit with a fraction of the man hours involved. In God's providence, hopefully some who read even cultic material will start thinking about biblical things and find the true God. Unfortunately, others will be deceived by the indoctrination studies of WT literature that are not really Bible studies, just book studies that twist Scripture.

How Many JWs Have You known Who Have Commited Suicide?
by Was New Boy injames olsen and richaed wheellock both bethelites.. rich templet.

My sympathy to those touched by this subject. JWs do have above average mental illness. Some bring it in with them, while others develop it due to the terrible nature of the WT. People in any religion are not immune to suicide. Truly our only hope is in the true God/Jesus/gospel. True believers are not immune to depression, etc., but He has the power to make us whole. Satan comes to rob, kill, destroy. Shame on the WT for being a channel of demons instead of God.
It is false assurance to think that one can be a JW, commit suicide, be resurrected for another chance. The issue is still receiving or rejecting the true Jesus in this life (a true believer who struggles and commits suicide is not the same as an unbeliever or false cultist who does the same).

There does not seem to be a consensus here. I have never been a JW and lean away from partaking in a sham ceremony. However, I am born again so freely partake in my own church. I am going to the Memorial tomorrow, so I will decide at the last minute based on the talk and hopefully the Spirit's wisdom.

You need a messiah
by StopTheTears inyou might well ask that question, do we need a messiah?
yes, it would be logical to wonder whether a messiah would have any real effect on you.. .
some whose opinion you may respect would assure you that the answer is clear and unequivocal: you definitely do need a messiah, just as much as everyone else does.. .

Again, false religion is evil, demonic. The WT is a terrible organization with many sincere, deceived victims. Others are knowingly corrupt and deserve the judgment they will get. Just because there is false, harmful religion does not mean there is not true Christianity that sets free. Don't go to Richard Dawkins irrational extreme.

The concept of Adam, sin, Jesus/Messiah is true and vital, but the WT/JW view is flawed and a lie. Don't throw the baby out with the bath water. Were you a former JW, poopsie? I have never been one, but I have been a follower of Jesus for 30 years. Just because you were burned by false religion does not mean there is not truth that leads to a genuine relationship with God vs slavery in an organization that keeps people from God (modern Pharisees=JWs).

www.freeminds.org You are not alone.
The real Jesus wants to heal you and set you free. If you know Him, He will meet your deepest needs. He also has a large church family of hundreds of millions in various Bible-believing Christian churches (avoid the liberal, nominal ones). Don't give up on God/Jesus, Bible, Church just because you were in a cult that messed you up. Running from God and living in the flesh is not the answer, but it does take time to get over the past. I rejoice that you have seen the truth about the WT and pray that you will not remain in a vacuum, but find the One who gives abundant and eternal life, the Lord Jesus Christ.

Who is the Messiah? Moonies think it is a Korean named Rev. Moon. Muslims also believe in Jesus as do Mormons (one of many gods). JWs believe He is Michael the Archangel, a created being.
The biblical, historical, orthodox view is that Jesus is Lord God, Almighty God, uncreated Creator. Until a JW or former JW confesses Jesus as Lord/YHWH/Jehovah, they cannot be saved for heaven or paradise earth (Jn. 1:1; Jn. 5:18; Jn. 8:58; Jn. 10:30-33; Jn. 20:28, etc.). In Pauline/Johannine thought, to confess Jesus as Lord is to confess Him as Jehovah God. Paul warned about false gospels and counterfeit/worthless Christs (Gal. 1:6-10; 2 Cor. 11:4; Jude 3). It is great to leave the NY WT, but if one does not renounce false doctrine and come to know the true Jesus (God vs creature/Arian view), it is in vain in the end (at least you see that salvation is in a person, not loyalty/slavery to an organization Jn. 1:12; Jn. 3:16; Jn. 14:6; Acts 4:12; I Jn. 5:11-13).

dos it really matter if someone drinks the wine and eats the crackers??!
by highdose ina big part of every memorial i ever went to was given to drumming it home that unless you were anoited you couldn't partake.
and everyone would be watching the "strangers" as their turn came, ripples of horror would go round the congregation if they dared to nibble or sip(!).
... but seriously what is the problem?

Thx salty for the reply. The 144,000 can be taken literally (the WT is wrong to make it literal, but the tribes figurative in the same context), but it refers to a future 7 year Tribulation period before Armageddon/Millennium/return of Christ (1914 was not an invisible return?!). They are Jewish Christians in a future period, not first century, 1935, etc.
So, bottom line, should an evangelical Christian partake at a JW Memorial? I was leaning away from doing it, but now I wonder. I will see what the parameters of the talk are (if they say it would be offensive for an outsider to do so, fine; if they say all who are born again can, that would be me, for sure).
Where are you at with your understanding of the trinity, Deity of Christ, physical resurrection of Christ, other churches, visible return of Christ to earth in the future, etc.? Which Bible version do you use (I notice you still use NWT phrases that are inaccurate).

It is a mockery of the biblical practice.
