Why has the watchtower never written a commentary on the Greek scriptures?

they have writes hundreds of other repetitive books, but no bible commentary.

is it because an actually commentary would destroy their doctrine and prevent them from being able to cherry pick scriptures?.

As we all know, the WTBS likes to explain the Bible by jumping from verse to verse. A commentary, being a line by line examiniation of a text, does not allow this type of interpretation. Studying the Bible text using a line by line sytematic approach would destroy the Watchtower's interpretations.

There has been a general shortage of blood for as long as I can remember (my father, brother and sister are all doctors). Doctors have been looking for ways to avoid the need for blood for a very long time. Any advances have come about because the docs wanted to help everybody, most of them probably have never dealt with a JW on the issue outside an ER, if then. I agree with statements above, this is the Watchtower trying to claim something for itself, that simply isn't true.

When a JW's life comes close to its end...

talking with a long time elder last night, was very revealing.

he has been a jw for over 60 years, a man that was incarcerated in cuba in his early 20s and faced great loss and suffering over his beliefs and for being born in a communist country.

this brave man is now brittle and low-spirited.. while nightfalls on his life, he is made aware the end is near.

I starting studying when I was 22 (1973), sucked in with all the 1975 hype. I was mentally out in 1988 and DA'd in 1989. I'm glad I got out when I did. I knew some nice people back in the day, as far as I know, they're still in, or died in. I wonder how many of them lie awake at night worrying they spent their one time around chasing a pipe dream. It has to be hard, they've now spent 40+ years waiting for some better to come along instead of going out and getting it.

How sad.

DoC my memory of prices goes back to the '50's. I can rememer my mother giving me fifty cents to go to a Saturday matinee. The move was 35, plus a dime for a coke and a nickel for a candy bar. When I got my driver's license in 1967 gas was twenty-five cents a gallon. Cigarettes were .40 a pack in those days.

An increase in security at this summer's conventions??

we've heard from friends in two separate congregations in our city that convention security will be tight.. the brothers made announcements this week and reminded everyone to be sure to wear their name badges.

those that don't may be questioned and have their belongings searched.

the same will be happen to anyone arriving during the sessions.

I may go to the convention this summer and just pretend I'm an interested person and see what happens, especially when I tell them I've lost interest.

in sorting insurances out updating , i just mentioned to my wife who is 'in' that in the event you have to claim "dont give any of it to anyone else".. there was a pause i didnt like.. comments by others on this site indicated the wts has been beating the drum for $$ i fear what she may have agreed to.. to those who have insurance it is not.. not to go, not a cent to the wts as they have belittled anyone taking out insurance or retirement benefits.. my insurance has been created to keep her and our handicapped offspring not the gb on a building spree..

I have some experience in dealing with a trust. The advice to see a lawyer is spot on. It should be relatively easy for a lawyer to set up a trust that will restrict distributions to care for your family.

There have been a lot of threads regarding changes in donations, Kingdom Hall ownership etc. and what it all means. I'm about to put on my accounting hat on and seriously consider the what it all means part (and why they may be doing it). I want to confirm my understanding of two basic facts:

1) Kingdom Halls are now owned by the WTBS and not the local congregation

2) Mortgages have been canceled, instead of making loan payments to the Society, the local congregations are pledging contributions of roughly the same amount. Congregations that had already paid off their mortgage are expected to pledge an amount roughly equal to what their mortgage would be if they had one. These payments will never end.

I have some thoughts on what they're doing. I will probably post on my blog (and notify everybody when I do) as I'm trying to get the blog up and running again.
