When was your last Kingdom Hall meeting?
by RULES & REGULATIONS ini stopped going to kingdom hall meetings about nine years ago.
i was fading for the longest time, refused to go out in field service, dropped out of the ministry school talks, no longer answered at the watchtower study, arrived at the meetings the last second, and left as soon as possible.
i couldn't take attending the meetings any longer.

Are JW's Fundamentalist Christians
by What is Truth? intop ten signs you're a fundamentalist christian.
10 - you vigorously deny the existence of thousands of gods claimed by other religions, but feel outraged when someone denies the existence of yours.. .
9 - you feel insulted and "dehumanized" when scientists say that people evolved from other life forms, but you have no problem with the biblical claim that we were created from dirt.. .

After I left the JW's a belonged to an evangelical (fundamentalist) church for a number of years. Those people do not think of JW's as fundamentalists. The fundamentals can be found here:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Fundamentals
A few things quickly stand out, as doctrines at odds with the Watchtower. The Deity of Christ, The Personality of the Holy Spirit, Justification and Salvation through Grace alone. Regarding their understanding of the Bible, I've read some Christian writers (Walter Martin, Anthony Hoekama) who point out JW's don't recognize the final authority of the Bible. In Watchtowerland all Scriptural interpretation is filtered through the pages of the Society's literature.

Why the Lord's Prayer and Not Stephen's?
by Sea Breeze inother n t prayers:.
the lord's prayer.. .
the tax collector's prayer.. .

Unless its changed, JW's are opposed to "canned" prayers even if they're in the Bible. I think reciting the Lord's prayer at the start of meeting would get you yanked off the stage and hauled in front of a committee.

Can we stick to topics that we came that we came to this forum in the first place?
by James Jack ini don’t care about politics, books you are reading, movies and tv programs you’re watching, etc..

I have often thought about starting a series of posts on practical information for living a good life after the JWs. Maybe topics like: moving out of your parents' house, finding a job, finding an apartment, buying a house, renovating a house, opening a checking/savings account, planning for retirement, investments, etc. Depending on your age leaving the JWs any of those topics might possibly be appropriate.
Go for it. JW's don't learn anything about life in the real world, meaning there are lots of XJW's that might be struggling to learn how to handle those items you mention, and many more. I'll be happy to bore anybody that asks with my financial advice.

Why are they not even mentioning it as possibly a good idea to take? (esp. you are known to be deficient)
Because vitamin D is toxic if you take too much. The correct solution to this is get tested and see if you're deficient. If you aren't taking Vitamin D is a bad idea. I would be interested in seeing a study, if the percent of people with COVID and vitamin D deficiency is the same as the percent of everybody with vitamin D deficiency it doesn't mean anything.

If I could go back in time kick some one's ass, it would be my own.
I started studying in 1972, I was sucked in by the whole 1975 thing. At the time I was a university student (at Washington State University), I graduated in 1973 and was baptized a few months later. During this entire time I was studying I had access to the university, which at the time had something over 2,000,000 books in its catalog. I never once went there and looked up Jehovah's Witnesses.
As an JW I had many discussions with householders about religion. I only listened to their arguments long enough to plan my next comment.
The reason the vast majority of non-witnesses don't talk to witnesses about religion is because they have better things to do.

I was 22 when I became a JW in 1973. I had been on a spiritual search for some time, I was in a bad place in my life. The Watchtower seemed to have all the information I needed. The literature at the time at least FELT impressive. It also agreed with my world view at the time (anti-war, anti-government, etc). Had my introduction to the WTBS been through today's dumbed down books and magazines I would have kept looking.

Language. George Orwell clearly understood that if you gave new meanings to old words, or created new words with special meanings, then you could control how people thought. One of the characters explicitly states that when language is fully under the control of the party it will literally be impossible to frame an argument against it. Words such as "freedom" will have lost all meaning. The WTBS was well on its way to realizing this when the internet came along. I think it may be impossible to do that now.
