What would you do or say?
by Butyoucanneverleave ina brother who is not baptized ( so there's still hope for him ) had a sister recently run into him at a store.
show wanted to know if he's going to the kingdom hall.
she asked him to write a letter for her to give to his mother ( who's deceased) in the paradise explaining why he didn't make it.

I'd tell her to write a letter to herself to be opened in 2050. She could describe what she thinks the Earth will look like then. If the big A hits before then she'll find out how accuate she was. If she dies before that, she can read it when she's resurrected. If she's sitting in a crappy apartment trying to live on social security she'll have a life lesson to ponder.

From no tight pants to Amish dress....how long?
by Diogenesister inxanthippe what's this thing with really long dresses?
sometimes i see them on fs and i can't believe how long their dresses are now, almost down to the ground.. so i was reading some of xanthippe and phizzy's posts on the strangeness of jw dress and how much they stand out and i got to thinking.
so... at one point the amish dress code was current, right?

I've noticed at work (a 28-day residential recovery center in a Seattle suburb) that a majority of the women, of all ages, are wearing dresses that come to at least mid-calf. Combined with bright colors and some nice jewelry, it gives them a San Francisco in 1967 look. Frankly I find it VERY attractive.
I think the problem with JW style clothing is not the clothing per se, it is the fact that they are frumps on the inside. The last two to show up at my door looked like their faces would break if they smiled. Their attitude and bearing would have been unattractive no matter what you did with their apparel.

2018/19 new light
by Ray Frankz inhi guys, long time without paying a visit to this site.
today i returned to check a 'gossip' that is running around in brazilian exjw forums.. they are stating that is almost certain they will make a big change in their doctrine maybe this year yet in the annual meeting.
they say people in warwick were commenting on this.

Finklestein I disagree. If they really wanted to dazzle the flock with BS they would combine announcing the 2034 date with everybody partaking. The sheep would all be "Oh isn't this amazing we must really be close to the big A if we're all partaking now. Aren't we special..." Blah blah blah.
I really think they could sell it if they wanted to.

Some thoughts on the message of doom
by JeffT inone of the recent threads on the talk about the hailstone message got me to thinking.
the problem with putting out a message like that is what to do when nothing happens.
i have to think that somebody will be asking that question.

One of the recent threads on the talk about the Hailstone message got me to thinking. The problem with putting out a message like that is what to do when nothing happens. I have to think that somebody will be asking that question. If they don’t, the whole thing will turn into one more busted prophecy from the Watchtower, and a corresponding decrease in membership.
That led me to thinking about the Jonah video. If they put out the message of doom and nothing happens can they then say “It’s just like Jonah, Jehovah changed his mind about destroying the world.” It would be very disruptive, or maybe not, it seems that the average JW will put up with a lot of nonsense from his religion.
I think it’s possible that the recent contractions (KH sales and the like) are in anticipation of a dry spell after they hit the reset button. Such a turn might give them the opportunity to revise their timelines and perhaps even mainstream the whole religion.
Just my two cents, but it is a possibility.

1969 Awake on Education - A Sore Spot for Me
by NotBlind inmy father would have started college 49 years ago this week.
about three months earlier, the week he graduated high school, the awake!
magazine came out with some very clear direction to teenagers.

I wasn't a Witness when that article was published. I did, however, graduate from high school about two weeks after it was published. Sadly, I fell for the propaganda a few years later and joined the cult. I had the good sense to get out of the cult in 1989 and went on to have a life. I feel sorry for those that traded away their lives for the false promises of the Watchtower.

Anyone else get a message from Hanged Man?
by pale.emperor ini dont know why i'd want to argue over something like this.
i've been aware of this theory for years.
as interesting as it is - it's still bullshit.. for future reference, i believe the bible to be a collection of fantasy, myth, real locations and crazy ramblings of psychedelic bloke stuck on patmos.. my reply:.

Unlike Van Gogh's story however, there were probably no incidents involving ears in Jesus's case, regardless of what the bible says.
For what it's worth:
Luke 22:50-51 New International Version (NIV)
50 And one of them struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his right ear.
51 But Jesus answered, “No more of this!” And he touched the man’s ear and healed him.

The bridge
by truthwillsetyoufree inso my father, who is an active jehovah’s witness, told me yesterday of an experience currently doing its rounds amongst the witnesses in relation to cart witnessing.
there is a bridge called ‘the bridge’ which is a well known place for people committing suicide.
apparently the jws have been setting up there literature carts there for a while now and ever since they have there has been no more suicide attempts from the bridge.
-
JeffT
I'm sure both "The Bridge" and "The Park" are in "The City." That should narrow it down. If we could find out if "The City" is in "The State" or "The Province" we could narrow it down even more.

Don't even try it!
by JTrottigy inthere are many here who think they can infiltrate my web-site.
be warned that we administrators of jwtalk call the listed congregation on your application for membership in our site to verify if they know you!.
some of you have slipped through the cracks and got into our site, but rest assured, we will find you out and ban you!.
-
JeffT
It seems to me that if the elders at some congregation get a phone call along the line of "HI I'm JTrottigy from JW talk, I'd like to verify that Joe JW is a member of your congregation" they would immediately form a JC to find out what Joe JW is doing on the internet.

It has nothing to do with courage, or accepting fate. It's all about making sure the family unit's DNA continues as part of the gene pool. A few million years of survival have hardwired us to act in certain ways. This is one of them.
