Hollywood is overrun with this nonsense. They'll probably nominate it for an Oscar. It will come back to bite them. People don't go to the movies to be lectured.

I Care a Lot (2020) One of the worst movies I think I've ever seen
by TD inmy wife and i were intrigued by the trailer, which looked like a humorous, over the top, dark comedy.. the story centers around the unscrupulousness of a female attorney named marla grayson (rosamund pike) who makes her living by preying on old people.
grayson has her victims declared mentally incompetent, locks them away in a care facility she has bought off and then liquidates and pockets their assets as their court appointed guardian.. (spoilers ahead).
ms. grayson humorously makes the mistake of singling out a seemingly helpless retiree name jennifer peterson (dianne wiest) as her next target.. grayson however, quickly discovers that peterson has millions of dollars in diamonds in a safe deposit box and far from being helpless is the mother of roman lunyov, (peter dinklage) a russian mafia figure who is not terribly happy with this turn of events.. up to this point, the movie was great.

But do most Witnesses know what they believe in??
No. A few years ago two men (had that look that made me think elders) came to my door. I've moved several times so they had no idea I'm an XJW. They introduced themselves and said they were JW's. I stopped them right there and told them as a Christian I can't follow a group that doesn't accept Jesus as mediator for all people. He said I was mislead, they believe he is.
Me: when did that change?
Them: We've always believed that.
Me: There are two QFR articles in the 1989 Watchtower that say differently. Why don't you check on that and come back, I'd be interested in hearing about it.
Never saw them again. I suspect there are other issues where they don't know what their own religion teaches.

The Difference Between Doctors & Nurses and Police?
by Simon inwhat is the difference between doctors & nurses, and police?.
studies have estimated that medical errors cause 250,000 deaths per year in the us.. police only kill around a thousand people each year in total, with only a small number being unjustified or accidental.. so the difference?.
police are expected to be perfect and for all the hype, you're are far greater risk of being killed by someone in the health industry than by a cop.

If you don't like or trust your doctor, you can get a different one.

JW Online University
by Tim207 ini have a family member who is a remote bethelite and they are working on creating content for online "university" for bethelites to teach them skills that are needed at bethel.
from what i've seen it is a lot of recorded content saved on their sharepoint sites.
i haven't seen any information on this from this site or reddit which i'm more active on.

I'm a retired accountant. Accountancy would (in my opinion) be relatively easy to teach online. However, it would require instructors who learned their trade in the real world, something the GB frowns on. I think they'd run a risk of finding themselves running on a school on how to leave the JW's.

i will not be attending.
what are your thoughts on posting these codes so activists can join tonight and maybe say something?

What Vienne said. Possibly also illegal - malicious mischief, trespassing, I can picture an elder yapping about terrorism and hate crimes. Certainly it will play into their persecution complex. I think the negatives of this kind of stuff outweigh the benefits.

Anony Mous: You're making me glad I'm an American. What worries me about these decisions is setting precedent. Maybe EU courts don't work like American courts. In the most US courts a case like this establishes precedent which can be used in the future to make a "narrow" decision less narrow. That and we can all ignore the GB if we want to. We can't ignore the government.

I've said this before on this subject:
Keep in mind, a court decision like this cuts both ways. They can't keep you from associating with them, and you can't stop them from associating with you. You tell Grandma uberzealous JW she can't come over and preach at your children, she pulls this court case out and says the courts says you can't stop her. Now what do you do?

Harry, Meghan the Royal Apostates
by Slidin Fast ini just watched the oprah interview.
i know that many view them with little interest as just entitled wastes of space and i get that.. however, the description of how they were "trapped" and silenced and forced into perpetuating the system with little or no personal freedom rang bells for me.
they are effectively shunned, estranged and disparaged by their family and cut off from support.

245 years ago we (Americans) fought a war to get rid of these people. I wish we could get them to stay gone.

What JW Subjects Interest You The Most On This Site? What Doesn’t??
by minimus ini like subjects that delve into the history of the religion and proofs that the witnesses are not the true religion.
i’m not so much into apologists saying we need to go to meetings, especially if the poster looks like a scammer trying to get ex jws going.
what subjects interest you ?

When I first came in here twenty years or so ago, I was interested in history of the org and prophetic statements. Now I'm more interested in the culture of JW's, how they think and act. I'm working on a pair of novels about a cult (of my own invention, which shows how easy it is to do). This site helps me remember what i was like.

When was your last Kingdom Hall meeting?
by RULES & REGULATIONS ini stopped going to kingdom hall meetings about nine years ago.
i was fading for the longest time, refused to go out in field service, dropped out of the ministry school talks, no longer answered at the watchtower study, arrived at the meetings the last second, and left as soon as possible.
i couldn't take attending the meetings any longer.
