greetings from another newbie
by lost_sheep inwell... i've finally worked up the courage to get an account & start posting on this site.
i've been lurking for a couple of months now, voraciously reading all the, mmm, "delightful words of truth" i've found here.
i'm currently deep in dubdom, so i have to be pretty ambiguous about some personal details, (i'm really paranoid, hopefully that will pass :-/) but my story in a nutshell is: i was born into this religion, baptised in my mid teens, happily married to a wonderful (& thankfully, somewhat open-minded) jw lady, & now, several years later, i'm starting to seriously question some of what i believe.

I took the WT apologist view for a while, but i'm coming to realize that some things in this religion just don't make sense from any viewpoint.
You sound just like me back in 2002 when I began to realize I'd been believing a huge, life-altering lie. Check out "dateline" and "the UN" info as well as the posts on unscriptural practices and you're in for some real eye-openers.
Welcome to the forum!

I no longer fear Armageddon or whatever thing of the WTBT$. I am taking boxing classes and enjoying a normal life .
Way to go! Good for you! I would have loved to realize the same thing when I was your age. Now you'll never need to look back to decades of wasted efforts on behalf of a false, bloodguilty, publishing corporation.Yourschelbie

WATCHTOWER MONEY - New contribution program!
by Severus inwatchtower money serves two purposes: to protest the policies of jehovah's witnesses and educate the public about the hidden side of the watchtower society.
consider this a sophisticated form of guerilla protest and awareness campaign.
each bill or check is designed to get the attention of the beholder and quickly provide information.

Possible baptism loop-hole
by vomit ini am a fader... actually i probably would be considered fully apostate for my views.
but i will do almost anything to avoid shunning.
well thinking over my life, i got baptised at 15 or 16. so i think it rules out getting an annulment.
-
YoursChelbie
Of course, but maybe some who are considering baptism will realize that they aren't getting the Bible's view of it, rather the Watchtower spin on what it really means.

IF you look at the Organized To Accomplish Our Ministry Book under the section "Questions for Those Desiring to Be Baptized" on page 126 and 127 there is the clear statement that baptism done BY Jehovah's Witnesses is performed to those who embrace the Christian faith. --Not to those who agree to be governed by a man-made organization.1) Why do Jehovah's Witnesses baptize in water those who embrace the Christian faith? Go therefore and make disciples of people of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the holy spirit.-Matt. 28:19.
The implication is that Jehovah's Witnesses baptize in accord with the command given at Matt. 28:19. There is no reference to an "organization" in any Bible verse with regards to baptism. However, just before going in for a dip in the pool, the Biblical reference to the "holy spirit" is replaced with the candidate's association to the organization:
The questions or vows which became effective in 1985:
(1) "On the basis of the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, have you repented of your sins and dedicated yourself to Jehovah to do his will?"
(2) "Do you understand that your dedication and baptism identify you as one of Jehovah's Witnesses, in association with God's spirit-directed organization?
That's what I call that "bait and switch."
All baptisms conducted since the change in the Baptismal vows took effect plainly Misrepresent what the Baptism IS to potential candidates (according their own questions for review) and as such this deceptive practice renders the Baptisms as ties to and submission to organizational procedures since 1985 null and VOID.

JW hypocrisy
by rick1199 ini am trying to build a list of hipocrisy with in the borg.
i dont mean things like the un scandal as people in the hall wont have heard of that, but smaller stuff that goes on all the time with out the rank and file noticing.
infant baptism.

More Watchtower Hypocrisy:
The Watchtower Governing Body tells people not to take blood --even in the face of death. However, they can accept "blood fractions." This is like telling a little kid: "You Can't have Cake-- but you may have flour, sugar, or eggs."
The Watchtower has NEVER to my knowledge encouraged any giving of money or time to charities such as the Red Cross (or Goodwill, etc.) However, when disaster strikes the rank and file, the Watchtower leaders are ready to accept help from the Red Cross.
So much for "firmly held convictions."

I'm really not too concerned about yet another piece of propaganda.
Any thinking person will get information from other sources and not just from this movie to base their true opinion about the Watchtower. If a viewer's BS meter is working, you can be sure they'll get on the net to get all sides to the story.
