A Breakthrough?
by Quendi ini'd like others' thoughts on this development for me.. i was disfellowshipped seven years ago and made up my mind never to return some two years ago.
most witnesses have shunned me, of course, but there are some still in the organization who associate with me.
one of them lives in southern california and has never ceased supporting me in various ways.

you have high hopes for the trip and it is possible that he has hopes too. He may see this as a wonderful opportunity to preach to you and encourage you to come back. If you confront him and try to persuade him to fade and this is not something he wants or has considered, then you are in danger of souring the whole trip. Be wary about making assumptions about someone else's state of mind, witnesses are tenacious and deeply programmed if you push them too hard they shut down and become hostile. Do not presume that your years of friendship will count for anything if you push the wrong buttons.
I would wait and see what his expectations are before you launch into a statement about fading. I would try to keep topics neutral of religion and you can ask gentle questions such as if he hadn't been a witness what might he have done differently? If he asks about your current status ask him if he has ever had doubts? This way things are less likely to blow up in your face. Try to guage his perspective before volunteering information tht may seem challenging.
It sounds like a fabulous trip I hope all goes well.

This is the Internet where anyone can claim to be anyone else and motives are obscure. I would deny that you are the one who posted but if you have been betrayed then say you were posing as a poster and your posts were ironic intending to make apostates think.
In future be careful what you disclose.

Seating in Das and CAs seems to bring out the worst in everyone. People who live locally get in early and take all the good seats on the end of rows and families getting in later are squashed in the middle of rows. The people who booked the premium seats then proceed to complain whenever small children need a toilet break.
When my son was very small I had alot of trouble getting him to sit still on my lap. Now I know that due to Aspergers it was extremely difficult for him to cope with the heat, the feedback on the sound system, the cramp and the pressure of the crowd. One sister said to me that if I couldn't get him to sit still she would be forced to move and it was entirely my fault that she was unable to enjoy the programme. I told her not to worry I was leaving and promptly went back to the car with my family and went home early. I'd like to thank the smug, uncaring, selfish cow for giving us a good excuse to get out of the hell hole and I sincerely hope her bum was numb by the end of the day.
The society makes it harder and harder for families. They are the ones who make seating the big issue by insisting everyone sits in the stadium suitable only for watching a sporting event. Although they can broadcast the programme on the radio they will not allow people to sit outside the stadium and listen in.

Frustrated
by jemba insitting in the local cafe enjoying a coffee this morning when the witnessing group showed up.. before i had a chance to escape i was sharing my table with 2 'sisters'.
one was my best friend for years until i stopped going to meetings.
(such conditional friendships).. before i knew it i was being bombarded with questions like how i was going spiritually.

I have had a childhood of learning to let go of friendships it stood me in good stead. I don't mourn the friendships I've lost but appreciate the ones I have.
Outside I have been able to find people who like me for who I am warts and all. They call me with their news and we share our achievements and frustrations. As a witness even those women I was closer too would rarely call out of the blue to ask after me, there was always an agenda. When we started to fade I received a couple of we missed you at the meeting calls but no one was really interested in me as a person merely in the space I occupied at the kingdom hall.
It is nice not to be judged too harshly any more and to have worth as a person not as a statistic.

World map showing net reduction in publisher numbers
by cedars inmp has asked which country has lost the most publishers, and i decided to investigate.
one thing led to another, and i decided to produce another world map, this time showing the net reduction in publishers for each country.. this has been calculated by means of the following equation for each country:.
2011 total no.

Trying to make meaning out of the societies figures is incredibly difficult since the figures are already massaged before they are published by the society. Peak publishers and other such nonsense bumps up the numbers to the maximum so that someone who finally turns in 15mins after 9 months of inactivity suddenly pops up on the count. Equally someone who failed to report 11 months of the year and puts their report in on the last month for the whole year gets counted as 12 people. But then you have people who attend meetings regularly but who never do field service but still support the society and take up space. In places like India some foreigners living there are unable to go on field service due to restrictions.
Life is messy and statistics are sane and rational but it is a case of imperfect base data which inevitably leads to the need for assumptions to be made.
Number of baptisms it is hoped is a definite figure equal to the total number of people who got baptised in a year and if it is in fact declining then this is a positive sign. After all as the society gets bigger then baptisms should go up as more people are contacted and fewer slip through the net. Baptisms should not go down if the message was one people needed to hear and was appealling and made sense.
What would be valuable is to look at the age profile of witnesses and activity per age group e.g. age of elders, MS, Pioneers etc. Also the age profile of congregations.
If there is an aging population in congregations with more zealous members being over 50 plus then this will have a major impact on the society as these older ones eventually become too frail to fufil the key roles and there is a lack of brothers willing to take up the slack.
A clear picture is very hard to get to grips with but it is great that someone has tried to .

So you think you were a True Witness?
by FaithfulBrother infuck you.. i was raised in a jw family in the 1980's-1990's where we had to do the daily text 7 days a week during breakfast at the family table at 7am sharp between 7:00-7:15am.
this was followed by a "spiritual discussion," which was held every morning between 7:15am and 8:00am.. since we were homeschooled, our weekly field service was required from childhood on friday mornings immediately following the spiritual discussion, followed by saturday afternoon field service after the bookstudy, as well as sunday afternoon field service after the watchtower study.. i was also required to read each watchtower and awake magazine and give oral reports about each magazine i read in order for my father to be sure that i had actually read them.
i can't remember for sure, but i think each watchtower and awake was released every two weeks back then, making a new magazine to read every single week, followed by an oral report on every single article (including the watchtower study articles which i also had to read, then study in our weekly family watchtower study where we marked our answers, then studied again at the sunday watchtower study).. in addition to this, we also had a weekly family bible study at night each week, had a family bookstudy at night in which we marked our answers for the saturday morning bookstudy, had a family watchtower study at night where we marked our answers for the sunday morning watchtower study, had a family prayer together every night before bed, every morning before and after breakfast and every night before and after dinner (not including our half-family prayers for lunch by my mother since we were homeschooled.).

your childhood sounds awful and abusive. It is little wonder you are struggling now but life can be better and so much more than you are living now. Because of your difficult childhood professional exit counselling may be needed to help you come to terms with what happened but more importantly to move on from it. You are still controlled by the society allowing their view of your decisions to colour youir own self esteem. If Armageddon is coming then why bother? Better to be passed out when judgement hits and then you won't feel a thing.
But what if there was no Armageddon coming then better to get your life together and make something of it. Don't give any more time and energy to a corporation by allowing their ethos to rule your decisions. Read the books suggested Captives of a Concept is also a good read. They help you to see the organisation for what it is and break free totally from it.
You have made some brave decisions in your life and deserve to be happy. Leaving the organisation is more than no longer attending the meetings and reading the mind numbing rubbish they promote. True freedom is also mental freedom, thinking for yourself and knowing that their ideas are no longer lurking in the back of your mind.
