Remeber the mike tyson escapades.
Which one. My favorite Mike Tyson line was when he told that reporter... 'I want to eat your children'.
Who even thinks to say something like that.

i'd like to hear everyone's comments about judge roy moore, the "ten commandments judge" in alabama.. i have a couple of questions:.
here is what the constitution of the united states of america says:.
that's it.. is judge roy moore congress?.
I think you are asking two questions here. First, the law Moore broke was contempt of court. He is subordinate to the federal judges, and that is the law. The second question I think your asking is why do the Ten Commandments need to be moved, what law does them being placed in the hall of the courthouse break? Honestly, I am not sure what the answer to your second question is. We have statues of Greek gods in our courthouses, the Supreme Court has the Ten Commandments, I don’t quite understand what the deal is here. Are we going to need to strip all hints of religion from all aspects of our public life? I am not sure where this is going to end.

i was watching a movie last night "the true story of anne frank"............her family were jews and they hid from the germans for a while till someone dobbed them in....they went to concentration camps, treated like s**t etc etc;.
jews were treated like cattle...like nothing...its terrible.... why?
While I am no scholar on the subject, I think four issues come into play with the hatred of the Jews. Remember also, that hatred of the Jews has been around for about 1900 years, it did not start with Hitler, he just capitalized on it.
First, anti-Semiticism got its start about 1900 years ago with the belief that Jews were responsible for the death of Jesus Christ. Many interpret the bible as showing the Jews were a force against the church and tormentors of the church’s founding fathers. This was a bad thing to be early in the first millennia when the church was all-powerful. These anti-Semitic feelings began here with the church and were particularly strong in Europe.
Second, the Jews did not change their culture. They stuck to their religion and sub-culture so the never integrated into the larger societies they found themselves living in. This could cause problems because the world of 100 AD to 1970 AD did not value diversity as much as we do now. Remember, until recently people burned people for witchcraft and all kinds of other stupid reasons; being different sometimes had dire consequences. This reinforced the anti-Semitic feelings that already existed in Europe and caused the hate to grow stronger over time.
Third, since the Jews were relatively few in number but a large enough group to be noticed. Basically, they had no political power. So basically, once the hatred of the Jews started they were never able to marshal enough strength to overcome it, they always just stayed locked in this permanent second-class citizen status. They were never destroyed but never accepted.
Fourth, the Jews made great scapegoats. If it is the Middle Ages and people are dropping like flies because of the Black Death, nobles would blame the Jews for poisoning the wells. After the Jews were killed off in an area, the people would split up their stuff. Basically, hated and weak are a bad combination.
I wrote this quickly I hope it makes some sense. Basically, the hate started with the church, the fact that Jews do not change their culture to fit their surroundings increased the hate. The Jews were never big enough to protect themselves, and sometimes greedy nobles needed someone to blame to focus the local populations anger and the Jews were a convenient target.

in a different discussion another poster made a popularly accepted statement about the religious foundation of the united states.
"some say that our nation has never been a christian nation, but i think history shows that it has been, from the start.
" borgfree.
I think the US Government should be a secular government and take no sides with any religion at all. However, I do not think the government should be anti-religious either. For example, I am by no means a Christian but I like Christmas, I like the decorations and I don’t want to see them go. I mean if you can’t have a baby Jesus in a manger decoration because its religious why can you have a tree which we all know has religious origins. Also if you throw out the ten commandments because they are identified with Judeo-Christian theology what about all the references to other religions in our society. Are we going to have to change the calendar because the months have religious origins? It all sounds a little JW like to me. I think we can get on a slippery slope on either side of this issue, we of course would never want to become a theocracy, but we can get just as insane going the other direction.

today i was listening to speaking of faith, a program on npr.. http://www.speakingoffaith.org/programs/2003/08/29_whistle/.
they were interviewing colleen rowley, the whistle blower who worked for the fbi and wanted to investigate mussoui, before september 11th.
she was, and so was the host, making the arguement that having a strong religious faith allows one to do the right thing in the face of adversity, and going against the grain, not following the herd blah blah blah.
As an individual (a deist) and as a person that has studied history I see no coralation between faith and ethics.

i'm only posting this so as to get a buzz from looking forward to our trip to joy & steve's place in october.. i last went to the usa when i was 12 years old and i'm keen to know what differences to expect.

please look at the following link:.
i'm not a big peta supporter - i think they too often only tell one side of the story - but if you read virgil butler's statement i think you'll find there aren't too many ways to look at the situation that would put it in a good light.
dry ice bombs shoved up a chicken's rectum so it would blow apart, chickens scalded to death in so much pain that their eyes pop out of their heads, live chickens having their wings and legs ripped off by sadistic employees - it makes me sick.
I would question anything from PETA or a PETA like organization. What the hell would the point be of raming dry ice up a chickens ass, it does not even make sense. Factory workers can be pretty strange however. I remember a case a couple of years ago where a guy at a turkey processing plant had sex with a live turkey for $80.00 US from his workmates. He was arrested and convicted of animal cruelty.

i recently watched bowling for columbine and came away with the impression that michael moore is saying that americans are always shooting themselves because they are paranoid to the hilt.. i cant figure it out!
why are americans always going postal on themselves?
The Columbine kids bought some of their guns illegally, so did the beltway sniper sometimes (often) laws dont fix problems. Just think the war on drugs. Some gun laws are necessary, and waiting periods are generally a good idea. But creating more laws are not going to fix the gun problem any more than creating stiffer penalites will fix the drug problem.
It's a sociatal problem that does not have any easy fixes. The solution involves maybe decriminalizing some behaviors, training educators to control the inmates of their learning facilities, parents doing their jobs, etc, etc,. Stiffer penalities for other crimes. Basically, I dont see any single factor but a host of several.

Moore has lost a couple of court cases after getting sued about previous videos he made. If you search on the internet you can find out about them. Also, many of the things brought up in his video were factually inaccurate. America does have a problem with gun violence but not for any of the reasons moore brings out.
I personally think it has more to do with the criminilization of drugs and the drug culture that surronds it. Add in gangs, crazy white kids, crazy black kids, crazy latino kids, high school teachers that allow bullies to exist, parents that dont watch what their kids are doing, cheap beer, you get gun violnece.
I have never seen a study but I believe a huge coralation (sp?) between drugs and gun violence exist.

this topic is largely in response to the topic:.
in one post, i said:one possible reason that both native americans and blacks (then slaves) were treated so badly for so long is that both largely sided with the british in the war of independence.
i guess countries have some kind of giant collective consciousness that takes a while to change.. .
I think it was more of a catholic thing than irish. But because Irish tended to be catholic in practice the irish got a trouble from these guys also.
