Two years ago, the last Memorial we attended, my wife busted out laughing during the talk.
Ha now thats funny! Too bad I wasnt in that audience, my apostate radar would have gone off and we could have all gone out for beers afterwards!

i've been trying for some time to find the motiviation i needed to completely leave the cult behind.
i'm mean, do it emotionally as well as mentally (whole-souled, right?
), despite still having a lot of family and friends that are cult members.
Its a doozy all right. Its almost like you can see the handwriting that they are gonna start DFing faders and/or even inactive ones. I hope they do, it will wake plenty up once they start dragging people into JCs for meeting attendance or lack of FS time.
one of the lines in that wt:.
how do false teachers fool people?
they do this in a very clever way.
I really don't get where they are going with this kind of quote referenced by the OP. Can you imagine if an elder said somthing like "everyone should partake" or "Armageddon is a long way off"
What I mean is once you are an elder, you can't wander off the reservation the least bit or you will be questioned in a New York second. Where are these elders that subtly take multiple publishers out with them when they leave? I've never heard of anything like that happening.
hi everyone.. iv been a jw for 3 years and iv been attending meetings since i was young!
im now 23. i have recently accepted that im gay and id now like to leave the organisation.. im trying to do things bit by bit, and i wanted to ask you all for some advice and ideas.. personaly, at the moment, id rather just phase myself out than hand in a letter of dissasociation - although i likely will arrive at that point within the next 6 months or so.. i have been quite well known in my congregation as a serious, kind and spiritual young man, and at the moment, im attending less and less meetings and not going out on the ministry as much.. i keep getting constant calls from elders asking about me and wondering where i am.
i understand their concern but its a little annoying, and unlike the majority of you here, i just couldnt tell them to get lost or to leave me alone as its just not who i am.
If moving is possible, it gives you the best excuse. Yeah its a total pain to move just to leave the cult, but it gets you off of their radar with a valid excuse.
As far as getting calls, start screening them. Don't answer, don't return them. Turn into an unreliable, flaky JW. You may have to endure it for a few months, but soon enough they will be glad to be rid of you.
this is one of the most aggressive watchtowers i think i have ever read.. four study articles on not "following the crowd" not following unrealities(page 13) not following false teachers, meaning apostates of course(p 15).
avoiding false teachers means "refusing to read their literature, watch tv programs that feature them, examine their web sites, or add comments to their blogs.
(para 7, pg 16).

Its simply cult control 101, ad hominem attacks. From this site: http://www.nizkor.org/features/fallacies/ad-hominem.html
Description of Ad Hominem
Translated from Latin to English, "Ad Hominem" means "against the man" or "against the person."
An Ad Hominem is a general category of fallacies in which a claim or argument is rejected on the basis of some irrelevant fact about the author of or the person presenting the claim or argument. Typically, this fallacy involves two steps. First, an attack against the character of person making the claim, her circumstances, or her actions is made (or the character, circumstances, or actions of the person reporting the claim). Second, this attack is taken to be evidence against the claim or argument the person in question is making (or presenting). This type of "argument" has the following form:
The reason why an Ad Hominem (of any kind) is a fallacy is that the character, circumstances, or actions of a person do not (in most cases) have a bearing on the truth or falsity of the claim being made (or the quality of the argument being made).

DesirousOfChange : It really does become intolerable after a while. They spout off with "the truth" or "new light" or any number of JWisms and you have to literally bite your tongue. I did that for a while, but once my tongue started bleeding I couldn't hold it in any more. Like Jeremiah "it was a fire burning in my bones" LOL.
They are toxic to your mental health in the long run, you have to eliminate them from your life.

Eventually you will tire of the relationships you have in the hall and it will be easier to let them go. You can only listen to "what a great assembly that was, the best ever" and "we really need Armageddon to come, this world is so bad" for so long before your eyes noticably roll into the back of your head, and some JW catches you.
Right now, you are going throught the idea of losing long time friends simply because of difference of opinion about religion. Some who are skilled are able to slowly wake up those around them and are the last ones out of the cult. Have you read either of Hassan's books? Most of us just have to leave to maintain our sanity, and allow others to find their way out if they want to in time.
I would suggest cutting back on the meetings immediately, that will help you maintain a bit of sanity.
in the short time i've lurked and been on here, i've seen a couple of new people join, and tell their experiences.
my question is, how big is apostasy in numbers?
could we take a rough guess?
Pretty difficult to estimate, we don't fill out an excel spreadsheet each month for Jehovah each month like faithful witnesses.
If they still DF 1% a year and only 1/3rd go back like some of their stats admit, I'd say more than a million in the last 15 years have left.
new to the forum, just wanted to say hi, will tell my brief story sometime, happy at the moment just getting to know you all!!!!.
.
sarahkate xx.
does anyone know what's the story with that simplified wt?
is that the new dubbie-wt for simpletons, drones and zerglings?.
Supposedly for areas where they use English as a second language according to what they wrote. I just hope they keep it up, from the threads today the new version has plenty of nuggets for the apostate gold rush.
