There are a few staying for financial reasons, either a job or an inhertance.
Finding a new job can be done. Staying in for an inheritance has to be pure hell on earth.
i have spoken to %90 of mymfriends & family.. and i have found that there are 3 basic reasons why people stay.. .
1. god has always had an organization.
the organization has never been perfect, but he has always had one.. 2. i know a lot of things are wrong, bit where else can i go?

so the next time you are in a group of witnesses and discussion about a sad event where people died occurs (such as a car accident, natural disaster etc), just casually say:.
" oh well, that's a few less people jehovah has to kill at armageddon.....so don't be upset!...at least they now get a resurrection".
that will make witnesses think!.
yeah, lemme know how that goes for you!
witnessing yesterday, i had a few little ones in the group chattering away excitedly to me about the things they look "forward to in the paradise":.
"i'm going to have three horses, a big house and lots of pretty flowers etc".
after i left, it hit me "like a ton of bricks"!......this is no different to the way that kids "in the world" believe in a santa claus, easter bunny, tooth fairy etc.... then they wake up when old enough and realise that it was all lies...make believe....stories etc, all told to them by parents and older ones!
The kids of the world get candy on Easter, presents on Xmas and birthday, and cash under their pillow from the tooth fairy. Though its a 'white lie' the parents tell, I really don't see anyone complaining that it damaged them when they become adults.
I actually remember losing my first tooth, and since I had never heard anything "bad" at the meetings about the tooth fairy I carefully placed it under my pillow as a five or six year old kid. I was sure disappointed the next morning.
Damn this cult for ripping my childhood.
today my extended family lost someone much too young.
my 18 month old cousin bryler fell in a swimming pool yesterday and was missing for several minutes before he was discovered.
his mom and grandmother and several other family members performed cpr and tried to revive him while waiting on the ambulance (which took quite a while as they live in the backwoods of southern oklahoma).
So sorry. Tragic.
this site is probably one of the most informative jw sites on the internet.
if you want to keep abreast of the watchtower, this is a great place to find out the latest in jw land.
kudos to simon for keeping it going all these years!!!
VG said: No-one cares that you are an atheist. Or who you are. So why care what I believe ?
Why even say disrespectful things like "your little sky god" or imply that anyone who believes
in anything you don't is open game to be insulted ? Or can't think straight because they have
a different world view than you do ? Just let people BE. I don't even know who you are
and I hope I never meet you. But basically this site should be SAFE. If someone comes here out
of a cult and asks a religious question, and is evidently taking what the Watchtower says seriously
and have invested their life in it, and are now agonizing over scriptual points, let someone try to
help them gently see they way out in a way they can hear.
No one? Quite presumptious of you! Maybe you don't, but I owe a huge debt to the atheists posting on this board five years ago when I came out of the WT, the ones who took the time to explain logically why I should examine the whole idea of Christianity, not just the WT. I owe it to new ones coming out now to state my views, whatever they may be, not promote some sappy, sugar coated version of the Bible.
As to your complaint of my description of your God, I stated "invisible sky friend", which is exactly what he is. He is invisible, he lives in the sky, and he is your friend. If you take it as an insult, then present evidence that my facts are incorrect.
Finally, if someone asks a relgious question as you state in the end, its in the person's best interest to get multiple answers. Answers from Christians may tickle the ears of the questioner, but they deserve to hear real and uncensored logic from everyone else as well.
THAT is what is great about this forum, you can't just come in here and make claims without backing them up!

lol @villagegirl.
Always a hoot to see people getting upset because people question the existence of their invisible sky friends. (oh with a little gay bashing mixed in)
what is the(or what was your) main motivation for serving god as a jw(or any christian)?.
a) love for god and genuinely trying to learn more about him and bible truths?.
b) to escape punishment/death at armegddon?.
Underneath it all JWs remain JWs because they want something for nothing.
Trading decades in meetings and serve-us is actually minimal compared to billions of years in a paradise.
september 11, 2001. riding the bus to school that tuesday morning we discussed the implications of the monday night football game between the broncos and the dolphins.
by lunchtime our entire world have changed dramatically.
america had passed into a new era that would lead to major changes.
To any who believe the WT is going away, I'd say go back a dozen years or so and read some of the UN-NGO threads. Rumors of the demise of the WT have been greatly exaggerated.
Nobody here wants to read this, I'd say they have adapted nicely in the last few years. Massive reductions in expenses, huge cash inflows from property and now the new building fund. Just notice on another thread a congo send off more than $25k and pledged another $1100 a month until Armageddon, and we all know how long that will be. Not all US/UK congos will go that high, but this plan is a golden goose.
They needed to insitute some sort of tithe, but just not call it a tithe. Send out yearly reminders and the resolutions will creep up in $ amounts.
Membership is another thing, but I think its all about keeping them in, not recruiting outsiders any more. Watch new light flash forth saying people should have more kids in the next decade and they are set long term.
.. the new wbt$ donation arrangement/ jw kingdom hall bank account theft... is a very hot topic right now... the wbt$ is literally going to clean out kingdom hall bank accounts, filled with donations from jws... that theft is going to happen world wide..the wbt$ is going to steal from 7 million plus jw`s... .. we have jw elders here on jwn, that know whats going on... they "serve" in kingdom halls, they are "supposed" to be looking after the welfare of the average jw... they know there is a 4 page letter, only one page will be read to the congregation..the rest will be kept secret... they know the wbt$ is about to steal jw donations..on a world wide scale!!!...
.. i would like to know what you active jw elders are going to do about this??!!...
are you going to let "your" congregation know about the other 3 secret pages?...
Its the perfect excuse to resign, at minimum.
Don't hold your breath Outlaw.

he told me that there is another change to be announced in august.
he didn't know more about it.. any other info?.
Just check in here in July to find out!
