What's the Importance of ''Titles" with Jehovah Witnesses ?

for example, my wife ( a former pioneer ) said if she got reinstated; she couldn't get her pioneering back for at least 3 years.

i'm like ''baby if you want to come back than just be a ''pioneer at heart " get the 50 to 70 hours without the ''title''.

can someone with privileges ( past elders, ministerial servants, pioneers, or bethelites etc.

Cults use titles to establish a pecking order. Any level can override the level below, thus insuring control. If Joe Elder steps out of line, he risks the CO coming to town and removing him. If the average publisher drinks too much at a "gathering" he is going to end up in the back room on Tuesday night.

Titles give you instant credibility when meeting new witnesses. If you are and elder or a MS, its going to come up in the first 5 minutes of conversation. It sets the tone as to how high up you are in the corporation.

For women, I imagine its more for bragging rights. All you can really be as a woman is a pioneer, so of course everyone fawns over you because you "sacrifice" by give up time that would be spent working or taking better care of your family. If you don't have the title, others don't really recognize how much you are doing, so what is the point? It really shows that they aren't really "doing it for Jehovah" but rather for the appearance it gives to the other members.

Why did the WTS stop having the rank and file pay for magazines? (1990)

we had our po visit this week, and he was telling us about how the rank and file had to stop paying for their magazine.

why and how did this come about (i was born in 1983) so by the time i could get to the literature counter, everything (at least i thought when i was kid) was free.. .

was more of an emphasis put on voluntary donating?.

"you have a document that needs a certain person's attention by the end of the day.

If getting the word out is so urgent....why is so much time spent going door to door when one television broadcast/commercial would reach millions around the globe ? The word would be spread world wide in a matter of minutes. Even a simple announcement via television, explaining the message JW's are spreading would be a headstart toward the householders understanding of what those poeple at their front dour are saying. The preaching work in Bible times was considered "Urgent" but spreading it door to door was the only way they could do it. Why is it still being done this way?

Bingo! We have a winner. They have hundreds of millions at their disposal. Possibly a billion or more! What are they doing with that money? They use tiny fractions of it to print magazines that are eventually thrown in the trash by JWs and householders.

If Jesus saw how "urgent" the GB is at getting the word out, he would laugh in their face!

If God really wanted us to follow a set of rules, worship him in a certain way, and tell us what the meaning of life is he could simply place a small booklet next to the bed of every human on earth one morning outlining his directives.

It would be a true revelation, and humans wouldn't have to debate him/her anymore.

Repeat once every 20 years for the next "generation" (Not a WT generation)

Done.

i have to say that i don't agree with core teachings of this org, but their idea of people living a clean and healthy lifestyle(eg.not smoking, not abusing alcohol, not sleeping with different partners,etc.

) is good.

i think if wbts do away with df'ing and shunning, fs, information control, they would be the fastest growing org in the world, but as we all know, that could only happen in a dream.. what if another org adopted some of wbts's policies without being draconian and harsh?.

I disagree, that would open the floodgates to free thinking. When people in a cult are allowed to freely consider evidence, they quickly realize they were duped. That leads to freedom, and without the threat of DFing or shunning, there would be absolutely no incentive to stay.

that quote must be embarrassing for the wts, so i figured i'd post it.

it appeared on the inside cover of every awake magazine until a few years ago.. a few weeks ago i attended the funeral of someone born in 1916, she was 94 years old.

i don't know anyone born before or on 1914.. governing body are you ashamed?

That reasoning book is like poison to them....full of outdated worldy references and "old light" that could make JWs at the door look like absolute fools if they come up against the right "apostate"

I can't see that thing lasting more that another year or two...

How to place your magazines without leaving home

i have noticed a growing trend for jw's to advertise current magazines and books on the internet using ebay.

they are advertised at 0.01, as you cannot start at 0.00 and the buyer is told not to pay when they win the item.

if someone else bids on the item then they are told not to put on another bid but to e-mail the seller or wait for another copy of the magazine or whatever.

Is it ethical for the GB to call the preaching work "life-saving"?

i think it can be concluded that the jehoavh's witness preaching work is not life saving.

there are a variety of reasons for this, but i think one of the main reasons is that the preaching work cannot be completed, too many people are born every day to preach to.

and countries like china, india and most of the middle east are not going to bend at all.. that being said, how can they refer to it as "life-saving"?.

Whats silly about the technology argument is that they sit and toot their horn about Russels movie back in the day, their radio station back in the day, and their printing system...i guess technology went out of style around 1980 for the society.

I've ranted before on it before, but if they truly thought they had a "life saving message" they would put their money where there mouth is and use modern technology to get their message out. How about a TV station, a radio station, internet ads, spamming peoples email around the world with their website address.

But instead they run the rank and file door to door in ridiculous, ineffective busywork.

The real truth is that they do not scream their "life saving message" from the mountaintops because they know people would just think they are even bigger kooks.
