I also thought it was strange how the bunker series ended without showing what happened to the brothers and sisters after they were found. I think the purpose of that was to leave it up to the imaginations of the audience. Some surely imagined them going to prison like poor Sergei from the earlier video, some probably even imagined them making the ultimate sacrifice, still others could imagine that in that next moment God intervenes and brings their salvation. Whatever the imagined outcome is the point remains the same: to be brought into the paradise you'll have to be loyal to the org and stay close to your congregation. The whole thing is fear based behavior modification, it has nothing to do with bible prophecy at all.

Hidden message in JW bunker video?
by Dunedain inso, i was speaking with a relative recently, who is "in" the borg, but is completely aware of the terrible hypocrisy from the gb down.
he is not in the box, and its great to be able to have a realistic, and logical discussion about the current state of the org.. we started discussing, specifically, about that bunker video that was released in december.
how it is being played at all the conventions.

Convention
by Gorbatchov ingorby is as you know a long time fader.. visited the convention this weekend.. and concluded that samuel herds talk about hope was not so bad at all, it was well balanced.
made some good points.. knowing both sides of the medallion, have to admit he was humble with a focus on hope.. the saturday drama impressed me.
of course, there is a lot to say about the organization, this professional produced movie in a "true story" scenario, gave me the insight that hope is important for suffering people.

The Saturday drama impressed me. Of course, there is a lot to say about the organization, this professional produced movie in a "true story" scenario, gave me the insight that hope is important for suffering people. Hope is better than no hope.
I know that the movie was made to create this effect on people.
It's not a bad thought, that hope is better than no hope, and this idea is still between my ears.Hope isn't the problem, even false hope can be a comfort for a grieving person. The problem is that WT inserts itself into the equation so that the person's hope is based entirely around serving the WT and it's interest. Who wouldn't want to see their dead relatives again? Unlike other religions though JWs teach that only loyal JWs will be able to entertain that idea.
Taken on it's own the drama didn't have a bad message but in the context of the rest of the convention it was clearly toxic and manipulative.

Unlocking Phobia's in JW's - Steve Hassan's " Freedom of Mind " book
by flipper inmy wife and i finally finished steve hassan's latest book called " freedom of mind " so i wanted to devote one more thread to it in discussing how to recognize phobia's in witnesses or cult members and some methods hassan mentions to assist cult members.. on pg.
146 hassan states, " a cult phobia is a man-made mental illness that is an integral part of destructive influence.
a phobia is a persistent, irrational fear.

Good topic, as JWs there were a lot of different fears instilled in us from a very young age. As a kid when I lost a tooth I would always be afraid that I would accidentally drink some of my own blood.LOL As I grew up I was always afraid that someone in the hall would find out what kind of music I liked, so I always hid that from everyone. Sometimes I would be afraid that a JW would overhear me in a conversation that was not "politically neutral". Such stupid nonsense, as a JW the worst thing you can do is be a normal human being.

David H. Splane: The “Slave” Is Not 1900 Years Old (Matt. 24:45)

I agree the slave is not 1900 years old. In fact it is just a parable, an illustration to personally apply to your life. Like the parable of the talents and the virgins, it was to show how Christ's followers were to await his coming presence.

A Womans Role In The bOrg
by pale.emperor ini just read a thread somewhere on here that someone has been accepted to bethel service along with his wife.
his wife has, of course, been assigned to work in the laundry room.
which compels me to write this little post.. now, i dont consider myself a "feminist" as such, but i definitely believe in equality.

I think the org would like to see all the women married, taking care of the home, and of course pioneering. -

Recent mistakes of the Governing Body contributing to the decline of JWs
by slimboyfat inthey have made so many strategical mistakes it's hard to keep track.
some changes within the last decade or so that are contributing to declining numbers of jws:.
1. elimination of book study groups, the most informal, enjoyable and sociable of the jw meetings, contributed to loss of sense of community among jws.. 2. policy of consolidating kingdom halls.

Their first and biggest mistake was declaring that the GB is the FDS and demoting the anointed. Sure everyone knew that the GB didn't get input from all the anointed from around the world. Still it felt better thinking that they were just representatives of a larger group. The change seemed to be arbitrary and made out of fear. It raises all sorts of questions that aren't answered except with conjecture and speculation.

Any ideas
by pepperheart inon the carts today four of them had teaching books that were printed in 2006 do people have any ideas why ?.
-
JW_Rogue
Yes, they are getting rid of out of print books or books that have since been revised in some way. Otherwise it would just sit behind a literature counter and eventually be dumped. When they switched from The Live Forever book to the Knowledge book our hall threw out tons of Live Forever books. They probably figure that they are saving money.

How would the world be different if there were no JWs?
by JW_Rogue ini think this would be a great question to ask active jws.
they love to say how the world would be so different if everyone was a jw.
however, what if we flip the question and ask, would the world really be much different if the jw faith never came into existence?

I think this would be a great question to ask active JWs. They love to say how the world would be so different if everyone was a JW. However, what if we flip the question and ask, would the world really be much different if the JW faith never came into existence? Any reasonable mind would be able to see that things would go on with very little difference. So then, if this is God's organization then shouldn't it be making a much bigger positive impact on the world around us?

New Monthly Broadcast - BE LOYAL! - Shut Up and Sit Down!
by ttdtt inthe new broadcast is - predictably - about being loyal to the gb.it's a shut up and sit down message.. one of the funny things they keep bringing up is the correlation between the gb and moses.those who don't listen to the gb are like korah.. this is a false choice, why?let's look at a quick comparison.
(this is from the point of view of the bible).
was moses directly picked by god?- yeswas the gb directly picked by god?- well no, we actually are not told how the gb are picked and why the qualify.. did god talk to moses?- yesdoes god talk to the gb- no, they admit they are not in direct communication.. did god inspire moses to write laws and judge.- yesdoes god inspire the gb to write laws and judge.- no, they admit they are not inspired, and they are always wrong and need to change things all the time.. did god give the israelites undisputable proof that moses is his channel?- yes, many miracles visible to everyone one around happenddoes god give jws undisputable proof that the gb are his channel?- no, there is no proof, actually contrary.. was moses ever wrong?- nohas the gb ever been wrong?- every time.
