Wife Equates Having A Good Marriage With Being "Spiritual"
by JW_Rogue inso i've noticed lately that my wife seems to think that in order to have a good marriage both people must be "spiritual".
she thinks being close as a family is all about family worship night, field service and praying together.
i know where these ideas are coming from but it is very hard to combat them.

Thanks for all the advice guys I must say that she isn't on my case about what I should or shouldn't do. I just know that the mindset is there. Recently we have seen some couples break up and she'll say things like "we have to stay close to Jehovah". What does that have to do with anything? -

Let’s Speculate!!!
by John Aquila inyou know the organization is slowly going down.
not as fast as we would wish, but nevertheless it is crumbling.
five (5) year old child baptisms, smaller magazines, child sexual abuse exposed, smaller annual growth, no one wants to reach out, young ones leaving.

I'll make a few predictions:
- 1914 will stay but they may drop the mathematical proof and just go with "the sign of the times"
- Blood doctrine left as a conscience matter but strongly discouraged
- Regional Conventions will get smaller and be held in JW owned properties
- More appeals to emotions, practical advice from the Bible less emphasis on prophecy
- 144,000 revealed to be a figurative number

Does anyone have any idea what the purpose of this is? They read this and really didn't clarify the purpose. -

I don't really feel like I can talk to her openly about how I feel about the org. Sometimes she will complain about the Elders or say that she doesn't see any point in going to meetings. However, when she says those things she is looking for me to set her straight and tell her what she needs to do. If I agreed with her then I'd be letting her down. According to her thinking I'm supposed to be the "more spiritual one" as the head of the household. -

JW's Approach To Bible Interpretaion
by JW_Rogue init will come as no surprise to many here that the jw approach to interpreting the bible is greatly flawed.
the reason that it is so flawed is that before anything is examined there are already some false assumptions that are made.
jws believe the following about the bible without evidence:.

Some interpretations they have just inherited and would be too hard to change after teaching it for so long. Things like 1914, 144,000 and not celebrating any holidays. They could easily be changed and make more sense but they aren't going to do that. -

Seems to think me being faithful and loyal has something to do with me being a JW and not just who I am as a person. How do you get someone out of that mindset? -

How Scary Are Circuit Overseers Now?
by minimus inback in the day, when the co came to the congregation, it was quite stressful for the elders and often, the rank and file.
.
is it as big a deal as it used to be?.

It is stressful for the Elders especially now that they don't have control over appointments and deletions of men in the hall. They must now try to maneuver events so that things go as they plan. -

I still remember a public talk where the Brother made a big deal about how the Catholic Bible in the foreword talked about how the Genesis accounts where figurative. Everyone in the hall just shook there heads in disbelief but really either it is figurative or it is false. At least the Catholics know when to give in to reason and science. -

What went wrong in your congregation?
by The Rebel inthe target is converts.. why does it seem such an outrageous aim for a congregation to recruit new converts?.
in my old congregation, the enthusiasm was there but the knocking on doors produced zero " baptisms" in my final years.. a) why so little interests?.
b) was it the internet ?.

Many Bros and Sisters just go out because they have to or because they want to be accepted by others in the hall. Most go out in door to door but may not go on RVs or try to start Bible studies. Leaving literature is easy but getting involved in a strangers life can be a big responsibility. Especially if you get a needy, clingy Bible study with mental issues. -

It will come as no surprise to many here that the JW approach to interpreting the Bible is greatly flawed. The reason that it is so flawed is that before anything is examined there are already some false assumptions that are made. JWs believe the following about the Bible without evidence:
- The Bible is always true and accurate
- The Bible is harmonious and has no contradictions
- Bible accounts are literal unless clearly shown to be figurative or prophetic
- The Bible has a clear theme running throughout
Since many of these assumptions aren't true JWs must come up with convoluted and complex explanations for Biblical doctrines. Many times just outright ignoring more obvious simple explanations. One instance that comes to mind is Gen 3:15. The book of Revelation speaks about a woman who bears a child whom Satan tries to devour, because of this Gen 3:15 gets interpreted as a prophecy regarding Satan and Jesus. By assuming that the Bible is harmonious and has a clear theme the obvious explanation of Gen 3:15 is missed. God was talking to Adam and Eve about the relationship mankind would have with snakes. When God says "The Woman" he is talking about Eve, "The Seed" is all her offspring.
