Thank you yknot! I linked to these over on the JWRecovery boards.
I've had a quick read of the the ones dealing with evolution (I'll read them thoroughly later) and on first glance they're just as I imagined they'd be; manipulative, fallacious, dishonest and full of more pretty pictures of hummingbirds and whales than actual science. More "But look at how pretty and finely tuned life on earth is! Isn't the idea of evolution so ridiculous? It's a big conspiracy by atheist scientists that don't want to believe in a God!" and not even an attempt to refute the most convincing lines of evidence for evolution. These brochures are definitely even more infuriating to read that the Evolution/Creation book.

Did you swear when you were a JW?
by St George of England ini have noticed that quite a few people here swear and use profanity.
an elder once told me this is quite common in the congregations he has been in.
i was raised in so never allowed to swear and never got into the habit.

New Creation Book
by God_Delusion ini was recently informed (on jwn) that plans to publish a new creation book were well ahead.
is this true?
if so, can anyone clarify this for me?.

I've not heard of a new Creation book either, just two new brochures. I'm really curious about their content though! Just more junk to debunk!

What had its beginning in the Garden of Eden?
by wannabe inwhat had its beginning in the garden of eden?.
we know that right at its outset ancient jerusalem, was representative of the throne of jehovah, that all of his chosen kings sat on the throne of jehovah in that city.
a scripture that the governing body of jehovah's witnesses has used to back up their claim that jerusalem was the throne of jehovah, found at jeremiah 3:17 although, on the one hand, would apply to ancient jerusalem, but a close reading of that entire scripture would appear the be saying something other than what might appear to be the case.

First off, your arrogant, condescending tone isn't going to be winning you many fans Wannabe. You're telling us all this stuff like it's documented provable fact, when, of course, it isn't. You're using the bible to prove the bible, which is circular reasoning and doesn't get you anywhere in a debate.
I don't know about On The Way Out (and I'm assuming that his screen name is referring to his exiting the Jehovah's Witness religion, so maybe you should quit trying to be clever with the negative jokes about it.), but I fully and completely accept the undeniable fact of evolution, which (unlike the fanciful garden of eden story or the story of the flood) has lots of documented, provable evidence to support it.
So yeah, that where I "attribute my appearance on this earth to, now, at this time." No magical talking animals, enchanted fruit or God sanctioned incest that got the human race started, just nature in motion. -

XD I used to think that they would be! I was told that God might bring back some dinosaurs in the New System, but obviously they'd all be vegetarians there.

Nope. Not one bit. The guy is an bigotted arsehole, a waste of money and complete idiot. I feel sorry for all the people that are going to die of AIDS because of him, I feel sorry for the molested children and their parents, but no, not him.

How do you cope with boredom at meetings?
by MMXIV inwhat did/do you use to cope with boredom at the meetings?.
as sad as this sounds, when i was a kid and desperate for anything to do at a meeting, i used to count the punctuation in each wt study article.
i had a system.

We were never allowed to do any activities that didn't relate to the meetings, so when I was younger, I used to make a chart of words like 'Jehovah' 'Jesus' 'Satan' and so on. Then I'd tally-chart mark every time a speaker said one of the words. Sometimes I'd choose just one word and have a competition with one of my sisters.
When I got older I'd just go to sleep. Or daydream. I have a really intense imagination so that can keep me occupied for quite a while. -

When religion dies....will it just roll over belly up?
by cameo-d inor will they go down with one last big fight?.
or will they reinvent themselves and return in disguise as part of the nwo?.
what do you see as the future when religions reach the tipping point of empty pews and no more $$$?.

Religion seems to be like a virus. Just when it looks like it's dying off, a new, more virulent strain appears!

It's alright.
We just finished up season 2 over here in England. While the premise is interesting and the show itself very well directed, the characters are unfortunately still (like most British dramas) pretty flat and dull with very little development. The acting is slightly above average for British shows, but still not fantastic and the chemistry between the actors leaves a lot to be desired (with the exception of Al, the former playboy of family money who ends up becoming a sort of surogate father/older brother to orphaned Najid. Their relationship is adorable and the most authentic on the show.)The actual main story arcs are imaginative and interesting, but the script is downright awful in places and borderline homophobic in season 2, which I took issue with.
But it's worth watching, if only for the creepy emptiness that's achieved. Seeing a usual noisy, bustling city like London so deathly quiet and desolate with a few survivors wandering the empty streets is really eeirie!
