Welcome Boh!
First off Boh, Jehovah is just the name of the God in the Christian Bible. Some people call him Jehovah, some people call him Yahweh. But he is not only the God of the Jehovah's Witnesses. He is also the God of the Catholics, all the Christians and Jews. You do not need to become a Jehovah's Witness to worship this God.
But I would urge you to do research before deciding which God to worship, if any! After all, it is a very big thing deciding to dedicate your life to the worship of a certain God. You need to be sure that it's all true first, right? So my advice would be to do lots of research into both the religion and the God. :)

I'd really like the option to upload my own avatar and edit my bio at some point. I kind of feel like just a screen name with no identity here...

Aw, I'm both happy and sad for you. It's so great that you can see your family again, but it's so awful that you have to hide you true self and rejoin the group that's holding them hostage to do so. :(

"It is our Personal Responsibility to Turn In People who are Sinning"
by WalkTall inat the last two meetings i have been to, two brothers mentioned in their parts that we have a personal responsibility to turn in someone we know who is involved in wrongdoing.
they both said we need to do this out of love and because we could also lose our own relationship with jehovah if we fail to do so.
it struck how odd this all is.

We were told that if we didn't tell on 'sinners' then we'd be blood-guilty if they didn't make it through Armagedon and we might not make it through either.

Sorry, that should read "doesn't" ". . . doesn't refer to just your God. . .". I was saying that it was refering to the concept of a personal God in general, not just Yahweh, God of the desert.

Did they have this part right?
by desib77 inso what do you think happens to someone when they die.
i learned of the death of someone yesterday that was never a very good person.
i can't help but wonder where he is now... is he dead "aware of nothing" like the jws always said?

I don't know. No one living knows.
When you look at what actually makes us alive and capable of thought, it just doesn't seem possible that there is any after-life, particularly one where your conciousness is transfered to another place. But who knows! Maybe all energy in the Universe is reused in a never-ending cycle, maybe there are parallel dimentions, maybe we suddenly find out what everything all means and the purpose for our existance (if one exists). You could speculate wildly forever! But I guess we'll all find out soon enough! And if there is nothing, well we won't know to care. -

A JW in X-Factor!
by bohm ini saw today that one of the contstants in the danish x-factor is a jw, and she is quite good!
a tabloid had a newspaper where she described her faith, she sounded quite nice and said she had never been teased by her faith.
the whole article can be found here (foreign language warning!).

A Witness is a congragation near us entered X-Factor in the UK. He didn't make it through the first round but was interviewed before he went in. His interview segmant ended up being broadcast on the actual show. Unfortunately for him, he was asked something along the lines of... "So why do you want to win the X-Factor?". He reply was, "The money and the babes." People from his congragation saw it and passed it onto the Elders. They refused to let him get baptised that year.

A term that put me in my cult mind set...but only for a second
by doublelife ini was just hanging up my husband's shirts and started on the section where he had his dress shirts.
but what i thought in my head was "meeting shirts.
" and i quickly realized that i have to start saying "dress shirts" instead.

Yup! Always.
It was always, "Oh, that's nice because it's neat enough to wear to the meeting", so it'd become part of my 'meeting clothes' collection. When I was younger and I'd sleep over at Witness friends' homes on a Saturday Mum would say, "Don't forget your meeting clothes!". It's something you don't even think about! I still think of certain items I own as 'meeting clothes'. >___<
