  Yes the most vulnerable were protected. Thousands who were identified from medical records to be especially at risk received a letter from HM Gov telling them to remain totally isolated for 12 weeks pending further advice. Arrangements were made for their support.

  I heard today that two thirds of care homes in England have had zero infections.

  Everybody else was severely limited in order to slow down community transmission in order to protect the NHS AND to further protect the vulnerable. Now that R0 is below 1 - only just - and there is spare capacity in the NHS, restrictions are being gradually relaxed.

  Not lunacy at all.

Countless posts on controversial topics where I remained respectful while being attacked by others. I'm proud of my posting history here. How about you?

  I asked you to offer any support for your assertion that the effects of the virus were 'avoidable'. You made what I considered an unreasonable demand that would effectively have locked up over a million minimum wage workers for months on end. I don't think that's realistic. You demand to know what I would have done differently. I told you I don't think the tragedy was avoidable. So now you resort to ad hominem.

  And you have the cheek to say I'm breaking the forum guidelines. I hope we can start again. I wish you no ill will but you need to converse more and bluster less.

  You may have guessed I'm weary of lazy virtue-signalling on TV and social media by people who want to rant at anybody who is trying to sort this mess out but who have nothing useful to offer.

  i am 15 years old and recently just doubting this whole religion that was introduced to me when i was very small from a very good family friend.

  doubt obviously comes with shame and guilt and i hate those feelings because it feels like i'm betraying this whole organization that i grew up in.... anyways, i've been doing research and found that jehovah's witnesses dislike/shun kids who attend colleges & universities that are more than 4 years long?

  last week would have marked the 98th birthday of a man for whom most of us here have high regard.

  Have you ever known elders who were more into being and elder than really being a believer?

  i have known many elders who were much more into the idea of being an elder and getting all the old ladies to tell them what wonderful talks they give and the power then really being a believer.

  i had one elder tell me that when he became an elder he was on top dog on top of the heap.

  i knew some who were really all about the religion and following the cult.

  A good guide is to determine how an elder sees himself in relation to the rest of the congregation.

  Some see themselves as father figures - they patronise and infantalise the congregation and get offended when their 'advice' is not appreciated.

  Some are policemen - they want to rule the lives of the congregation and keep everybody in line. They impose their petty consciences on others.

  A few are celebrities - they love adoration and praise.

  A minority see themselves as a big brother - but not in an Orwellian way. They look out for the congregation by caring about individuals in need of encouragement or practical help. They try to lead by example and encourage others to exercise their own conscience. Elders of this type often end up burned out and disillusioned - as do their long-suffering families.

  Boogy - You are the one who ranted about an 'avoidable catastrophe'.

  I don't think it was realistically avoidable. I asked you to suggest how it could have been avoided. So far your only idea is to take 1.49 million people - mostly women on minimum wage - away from their families for months or years.

  The ball is in your court not mine.

  Criticising the government is virtue signalling. Offering viable alternatives is where you earn respect.
