  In what decade was it clearly apparent that Watchtower was a high control religion?

  i'm just curious to get people's views on this.. the bible students seem to start of as quite a liberal group under charles taze russell, albeit he had some whacky teachings going on.

  obviously things began to change under rutherford.

  but what decade did it become abundantly clear that the society was indeed high control religion or even labeled a cult?.

  Russell initially rejected calls from his many subscribers to form an organization. He said that they should stay in whatever church they attended and that Jesus knew his sheep.

  a big way jw's are wrong is they do not allow for the human need to specualte on this life ahead.

  genesis says a lot about both pre-flood and post-flood giants.the really big nasty ones drowned in the flood but there were lots of others the israelites had to overcome including the king of basham with his 11 foot iron bed.people nowadays are much smaller and i think its due in part to us losing more and more of adams perfection.

  i turn my attention to the animals that went onboard the ark but are as yet undiscovered.

  during president knorr's time the panda bear was discovered in a market place in china and eventually an american team tracked them down in the wild.

  Humans did not fall from perfection. Humans evolved from non-human ancestors over millions of years. The evidence for this fact is beyond all reasonable doubt.

  There was no global flood. The millions of species alive today could not evolve from the few types that could fit on a boat in a few thousand years.

  You are entitled to can have your own your own opinions but you don't get to have your own "facts".

  much as been revealed over the years to the date setting doctrines made by the wts.

  such as ( 1874, 1914, 1925 , 1975 this generation, the last days, the end times etc.... which were not created by other christian based faiths.. as to critically examine why might reveal a hidden agenda to all these date setting proclamations.. the point in question is did the wts and its leaders intentionally manipulate or exploit the preaching of the gospel to enhance the proliferation of their own printed publications ?.

  i would say convincingly yes, no question.

  Because Franz already picked up this concept by reading Russell's literature. He just reused it in 1941 and then again in the late 1960's.

  This is such an important point that the vast majority of ex-JWs are unaware of. When I read Russell's books and WT articles I was amazed by the prominence of this political theme.

  Vienne thank you for your continued efforts to bring some facts to what is too often a polemic onslaught.

  I don't think the WT have ever knowingly published lies in order to sell books for financial gain as the title and OP suggests. I do know they have resorted to deceit to defend indefensible dogma. The leaders see themselves as custodians of "revealed truth" and they will justify anything in order to preserve it.

  Freddo's point is important. This major study article was so vague we only knew for certain that the doctrine had actually changed when we read the masthead on the Awake.

  I remember my PO argued with me that nothing had actually changed until I showed him the accompanying Awake. It was the deceit of the Watchtower that angered me even more than the failure of the doctrine.
