Mill Hill Disfellowshippings
by BorgHater ina few months ago there was a thread about a couple of elders at the mill hill bethel being disfellowshipped because they disagreed with some wt doctrine (i can't recall exactly what it was) and that several other betheliteswere under 'investigation'.
i haven't heard anything since, does anyone know anything more about this?.

OK, I may be about to start writing another (JW related) novel
by JeffT ini'm working on getting the first one ready to go to publish on demand, and when my historical novel gets back from my proofreader it will get shopped to agents.
i'm working up plans for a sequel to that, but i won't write until i know if anybody is interested in it.
i've received some positive reaction to "armageddon's disciples" but the subject matter - a fictitious religion that drinks the kool-aid seems to be a bit obscure.

Have you thought of trying quilting?
Kidding. Okay, first they will call the presiding overseer (or the COPE or whatever they call him nowdays - check your dates though) if he's not in the group of three. Then all the other elders. Then Brooklyn Legal. Then 911.

Why Are They Called Privileges?
by Quillsky inseems like work to me....... doing the microphones, manning the magazine counter, spending countless (sorry, counted) hours every month knocking on doors.. privileges?.

In fact single sisters( in my cong.) would always act all giddy and frantic if they had some type of interaction with brothers especially if they got some type of instructions... i think it gave them a glimpse of being married.
lol!!!

Is the Governing Body really Jehovah's mouthpiece?
by dgp inon another thread, african gb member wondered whether the members of the governing body really believe what they preach.
and that led me to this thought:.
unless i misunderstood what i have read, the governing body claims that jehovah communicates with them and tells them what to do.

I am looking for "non-apostae" (no pun intended) information on how the GB comes to their conclusions by voting.
Inbetween...... Let's bump this for our resident researchers such as Mary, Atlantis, Blondie and others.

What do people do in a discussion that ticks you off?
by Terry inwe all enjoy an interesting discussion.
but, sooner or later it seem inevitable that somebody comes along and throws a monekywrench into the mechanism and the huge engine sputters to a halt.. what do people do in a discussion that ticks you off and stops the flow of conversation and turns it from being productive to unproductive?.
is it as simple as disagreeing with you?.

my mum taught us very valuable lessons about Jehovah in her special way. Any other parents out there as psycho?
by God Chick inok before i start i know my mum was um "special" and had some, well...... bizzare training ideas.. .
i was one of 7 kids, dad didnt help much coz he was sick, so my mum was left to run the 'ship' and she did it with an iron fist.. .
we were never late for a meeting we sat, parents and 2 kids in one row the other 5 in row in front.

I'll attest to the wooden spoon thing. My mother and all her JW friends belonged to The Wooden Spoon Brigade. Was it a JW thing or was it a 70s thing? (My dear mother, bless her, threatened it rather than using it.)
My father however, discovered that a plastic horse crop was a good thing to use on his daughters. And he did. I honestly can't remember a single thing I did to deserve being beaten with a horse crop. I do recall my sister and I conspiring in the car after a meeting ("meeting night" being "beating night") to put on multiple layers of panties when we got home to lessen the pain.

Your worst field service experience.
by littlebird inmy worst field service experience was this.. i didn't have a car at the time and so a pioneer sister was picking me up of service every couple of days.
she was my partner and i got a door where the woman was clearly not interested.
as i am stepping away the pioneer sister starts in with all the objection stoppers.

As much as I'm embarrassed by the stooopid message we took to people, I actually appreciate the outreach nature of field service.
I never had a bad experience and in fact appreciate the opportunity it gave me to see how other people live. I've been in the homes of the poorest of the poor and interacted with people that my upbringing and lifestyle would never usually have put me in contact with.
I've enjoyed coffee and cookies in the homes of so many kind people. Once I was given an excellent book by a recluse who said he'd been keeping it for many years hoping to find the right person to give it to.

My Mother Still Prays For Me To Come Back To The "Truth" Every Day!
by minimus inshe told me yesterday that she holds out hope for me to be like the prodigal son and come back.
(between us, i don't think that's gonna happen)..

Wow, Aeiouy, your mother has other issues, not JW related.
You are the only family I had left and now you've decided to throw me away too.
If I were her son I'd make one thing clear: there are two relationships going on here (1) yours with her and (2) hers with the publishing company. Work hard on (1) and make it clear that (2) has nothing to do with you.
Bless you both and thank you for sharing.

I love debate but I can't continue with someone whose only resort is a personal attack. A good example is the heated Roman Polanski thread here. I took a position for the sake of a different viewpoint, to add color to the thread, and I had responses along the line of "THAT says a lot about YOU as a person". (And received my first ever online death threat.)
When I encounter a good conversationalist, a thoughtful debater, in real life or on a discussion board, I am very willing to reconsider my viewpoint. I enjoy good brain food, and I'm told I sometimes serve it up.
