I have come across these songs as well. The story that I heard on them is that they were recorded approximately four years ago at the request of the Society. All of the people involved with the recordings were JWs. Then, after they were recorded, the Society could not reach a unanimous vote to release them, so the project was put aside. Since they never released the recordings, all copies are "unauthorized." Celine Dion was not involved, but rather the female voice is that of Sister Lafond. Some of the names involved are: Benson, Graham, Ingram, Lafond, Hutchins, Colello, Kavelin, and Baker. I've also heard another song that is solo guitar. This is not from the same group of people - but it does sound remarkably similar to Prince's style.

dozy brought up a good point a few months back about how the wt uses third party terminology to obscure their real motives.

i thought it was a good idea to revisit this wt writing technique.. (http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/jw/friends/184897).

look at the nov 15th 2009 wt, "treasure your place in the congregation" and compare what happens when we replace the third party terminology (words in bold type) with first party words.

Some is also publication-speak for "those who are weak in the truth". Or those who dare to reason.

Some is also publication-speak for "it may sound reasonable but we're about to proclaim that if you have these thoughts you're not acceptable here."

YES BROTHERS IN THE WRITING DEPARTMENT, areas such as entertainment and dress and grooming ARE personal matters. Where the fuck in the bible does it state that women may only wear skirts to worship or preach but they may wear trousers to picnics or work, and where the HECK does it say that men may not wear any facial hair except for mustaches?

SHOW ME where in the bible it says "don't purchase a theater performance ticket for you and your husband in front of a sister lest you stumble her"? (.....from another thread on here).

For the dedicated Christian who cherishes his place in the congregation

I hope some lurkers and doubters here understand this implicit threat to your safe place in the congregation/organization. Please get out of that messed up religion now, unless you really cherish your safe place in The Order of Control.

JW Tall Tales

recently i was cleaning my bookcase and found an old book that i enjoyed as a child.

it had stories in it such as paul bunyan, pecos bill, and john henry.

while these stories are fictional, i enjoyed them because they were entertaining, and easy to understand.. fast forward to the late 70's when i was a teenager sitting at the ca hall in janesville wisconsin.. the speaker was explaining the great sacrifice god made in sending his son down to earth to die for all mankind.

The train story isn't so much a tall tale as an illustration (the pioneer car stories and demonized children stories are tall tales). Now I'm all for illustrations, love a good one.

But that one is just BAD and convoluted because the switchman didn't have the power to resurrect his dead son three days later. Not that I believe in the resurrection myself, but if you're gonna be illustrating the Christ story then surely that one small detail shouldn't be left out?

A missionary couple came across an extremely poor old man living in a hut in the jungle.

He welcomed them into his one-room home and offered them tea. They accepted his kindness and watched as he boiled some water on a fire, used one teabag to make three cups of weak tea, and apportioned a few grains of sugar between each cup. Then he brought out a small bowl of peanuts for them to enjoy with their tea. The couple felt humbled by the generosity of this poor man.

He listened intently as they told him the good news of the kingdom, where poverty would be done away with. He accepted the Watchtower and the Awake, and nodded eagerly when they asked if they could return.

The following week the missionaries returned to the old man's hovel and his eyes lit up when he saw them. Once again he boiled some water on the fire, made three cups of tea using one tea bag, and brought out a small bowl of peanuts for them to nibble on while they told him how he could live forever in paradise on earth.

The third week they returned once more to their new bible study, and watched with warm hearts as the old man boiled some water on the fire, used one tea bag to make three cups of tea, and brought out a small bowl of peanuts.

When they'd finished the bible study, the tea and the peanuts, the sister said kindly to the old man, "We appreciate your generosity, sharing your tea with us and always giving us delicious peanuts when we visit. But we've noticed that you don't eat the peanuts yourself."

The old man smiled his wide, toothless smile and said, "I can't eat peanuts, no teeth, all I can do is suck the chocolate off them."

Now there's a religious principle I believe in, Designs. Add to that "Do as little harm as possible, to yourself, others and your environment" and we're approaching the religion I now believe in. It doesn't require evangelism (or argument), merely personal responsibility.

The description and logic of God's mercy that I described above is held by HUNDREDS of millions of Christians. Fundamental, Evangelical, Old Mainline Protestants, Charisamtic etc, etc, etc.

And the life lessons and festivals of Krishna, Ganesh, Lakshmi, Shiva and Vishnu are believed in by HUNDREDS of millions of people too. Your point therefore.....?

Wait a moment.

I think it's ironic that in the topic of logic one basic false premise is being overlooked. Let's go back to the beginning, shall we?

When is a religion a false religion?

I propose that the concepts of "false religion" and "true religion" were created by various religions, sects and cults. And the phrase "false religion" is today pretty much Jehovah's Witness jargon. It peppers their publications, and I have never heard any non-JW or non-EXJW person use that expression.

Religion is religion. Worship is worship. It is what it is.

Saying "false religion" is as insane as saying "He's wearing false clothes", "She's eating false food", "That big city banker is practising a false profession", "A Tibetan shepherd is living a false lifestyle".

One cannot compare the complex and beautiful polytheist Hinduism with the traditional practise and ritual of Christianity, and yet Hinduism is still a religion, neither provably "true" nor "false" but it IS a religion happily practised by millions of people.

And I propose that arguing about "true religion" versus "false religion" is a throwback to Jehovah's Witness training, indoctrination.

Mill Hill Disfellowshippings

a few months ago there was a thread about a couple of elders at the mill hill bethel being disfellowshipped because they disagreed with some wt doctrine (i can't recall exactly what it was) and that several other betheliteswere under 'investigation'.

i haven't heard anything since, does anyone know anything more about this?.

Jookbeard, if you would like the thread to be more interesting, um, say something interesting or I'll have to post another picture of men beating each other with Toblerone.

I enjoyed the interview with the two English "apostates" (to use the lingo, not that I believe in that abuse of the word) and find it relevant to this thread. I like the fact that their leaving appears to have taken them down separate paths, one man becoming a gentle grandfatherly sort of pastor and the other becoming a more "Praise the Lord, now what do I do with all this energy?" type.

Neither is right nor wrong, and nor is any other route chosen post-exit by any of us if it is followed with a degree of thoughtfulness and passion. I admire both men for standing up and speaking out, and what they say about what is wrong with the cult and how it traps people resonates, I think, with many of us.

I hope the Mill Hill Four also speak out more, when they are ready.

just curious.. has anyone successfully tested the 'power' of the holy spirit by being appointed even though they were not zealous jw's?.

once i get appointed, i'd resign within a week.

'coz i would'nt stand jc's and df'ing people..

I'm a bit wary of a new poster whose very first post is to ask about virginity testing at Bethel (sounding suspiciously like a teenage boy who isn't getting laid) and who then goes on to announce their quick appointment then removal as an elder.
