  will jehovahs witnesses make me a permanant "do not call "

  2 nice ladys called on me the other day , as one started her "speach" the other one looked embarresed , i interupted and said to the embarresed one "you know why im not interested in your religion ,dont you " she replied "yes im sorry i couldnt rember which one you lived in " (i had met her at my door some months ago , and explained that my daughter was raped as a child by a man i had met at the kingdom hall , and some jws support him despite him abusing other jws etc , i had told of the paedpphile problem in the religion and my jw inlaws dont visit my little girl because her daddy is a disfellowshipped man , which i think is very unchristian) the other lady then started admiring my dress , then my little girl appeared and she said how pretty she was etc, i said goodbye and closed the door , i wish i had heard what the 2nd lady had said to her friend in explanation for why i was not interested !

  the annoying thing is my little girl then wanted to know who they are and what did they want to talk about , so i explained they were in "that religion that grandma is in "that stops her coming to see daddy , which upset her , then hubby came back from work later in a good mood untill i told him of the visit that had upset our little girl and then he was moody with me and said "dont talk to them again , next time tell them to be made a "do not call " for ever and never ever review it !is it possible to do that in our situation ?

  @Looloo,

  Next time witnesses call you can just request that you be put on the "do not call" list. Then you shouldn't get any calls (though sometimes witnesses call by mistake if they forget to check the list when they do the territory). You can also write to the Branch in your country asking to be put on the do not call list and they will forward your request to the appropriate congregation (make sure your address is included so they know which congregation to forward to and what address to put on the list!)

  I would be really interested in learning more about the points you mentioned:"it is even stated in the BIBLE that there were languages before the tower of babel, and that the nephilim had SURVIVED the flood."

  The photo-drama of creation stated "The Genesis account tells nothing about the formation of the Earth itself. It says, "In the beginning the Earth was--without form and void"--shapeless, empty. There were neither mountains nor valleys, trees nor shrubs, rivers nor oceans, but the Earth was. How long before that it had been created, is not stated." (Photo Drama of Creation). In all the JW literature I have seen, it has been stated that the earth existed for unknown periods of time before the first day.

  From The Photo Drama of Creation up until the mid-80s, JW publications referred to the creative days as 7000 years long.

  However, the 1985 Creation book stated "It would seem reaonable that the 'days' of Genesis could likewise have embraced long periods of time - milleniums" (Life How Did it Get Here - By Evolution or Creation, Chapter 3, pg. 27, par 7).

  In 1987 they briefly went back to the 7000 years teaching in a Questions For Readers article: "a study of the fulfillment of Bible prophecy and of our location in the stream of time strongly indicate that each of the creative days (Genesis, chapter 1) is 7,000 years long." (Watchtower 1987 January 1 pg. 30).

  After that articles have referred to the creative days as "thousands of years" (Awake! 2002 June 8 pg 10) or "considerable lengths of time" (Awake! 2006 September pg 19)

  Have your JW Relatives Explained about Generation/Overlap Change to You ?

  after reading on the way out's thread about his mom explaining the generation overlap to him it kicked this idea into my head to make this thread .

  i thought it would be helpful to see if anybody here has had jw relatives or friends try to explain this " generation overlap " theory to you as a faded or inactive witness and what happened in the conversations.

  so please feel free to post your experiences.

  My relative brought it up at family get-together/Dinner after the annual meeting, but before the April WT was available for download.

  They asked if we had heard anything about the new generation meaning from the annual meeting. I mentioned that a brother in Bethel had told me about the overlapping generations and explained it. One relative said, how does that make the end any closer? The other one said they obviously don't know what it means. One commented every assembly they keep saying that the end is close for decades; We have no idea when the end is and neither do they. For some reason one of them mentioned 1975. One said they never said the end would come in 1975. The other said Well they strongly hinted it. Then one said well they said the generation was the ones who lived in 1914, but they were mistaken. I almost peed my pants wondering where this was going, but then someone changed the subject.

  On later occasions I tried to test the waters a bit by talking subtly about a related issue, but that seems to have put up the defenses so now their attitude has changed a bit and they talk about how close the end is and how great the assembly was. I think they were worried that they were discouraging me so now they are making efforts to be more spiritually upbuilding.

  Well, you have part 1 down pat. Part 2 is to slide paper underneath, carry it outside, and then let it free.

  Or if you insist on killing it do it quickly by squishing it.

  Interesting terminology heard at this year's DC

  ok, so earlier this summer at a dc i got to hear one of the gb speak.

  he used some odd terminology i had not heard before.

  he said this two or three times, so i mentally made note of it.

  I don't have the references currently, but believe in the 30's the anointed were considered JWs, and the other ones that preached with them the companions, the Jonadab class.

  Over time the term "Jehovah's Witnesses" seems to have evolved to include all baptized JWs as quoted in the newer articles above.

  In our hall we often welcome "brothers, sisters, and friends". From the platform we usually we call someone "brother/sister" once they are baptized, and use the first name until then. That implies to me that baptized ones are Jehovah's Witnesses and publishers/associates are friend. However publishers and children of JWs also identify themselves as JWs.
