I think the Awake articles count as elective credits for the Better Than College Education.

Awake Articles
by Ding ini always used to wonder about those awake articles that had nothing to do with anything like, "interesting nutritional facts" or other articles that could have just as well appeared in the reader's digest.. can someone explain the purpose of those types of stories?.
the only thing i can see is that people at the door might be willing to look at them even if they wouldn't take the watchtower, thereby giving jws an excuse to make a backcall..

How does your congregation feel about the new song book?
by stuckinamovement ini stopped trying to sing the songs last meeting.
it felt like a combination of chanting and stepping on a cat.
it is terrible.

The new songs are slowly getting better in my hall. In a couple years we'll probably be singing them well enough to open a broadway musical (which is what the new songs sound most sound like).
The hardest ones are the existing melodies where they modified some of the measure's notes/rhythm to make it easier for new JWs to sing. It's hard to undo 20+ years of singing the song a certain way.

The Dawkins Delusion
by brotherdan inso, i recently finished reading "the god delusion" by richard dawkins.
i read it with a certain amount of hesitation.
after all, i am still recovering from my disappointment at realizing that the wts is not god's organization.

Perhaps one could say that Dawkins is a fundamental atheist .

'Unbiased' Study Bible or Commentary Recommendations?
by pirata inare there any commentaries or study bibles that anyone can recommend?
i'm not sure if it's possible to be 100% unbiased, but looking for something that tries to keep theological speculation, or scripture bending to fit theology, to a minumum.. esv study bible was referenced in another thread, but the description says it is "evangelical".
not sure if that indicates a theological bias or not..

the elders just BANNED me from the Ministry School when I asked to be given as few #2s as possible
Maybe if you apologize. #1 is the new #2, and #2 is the new #3 (which is for sisters.) That's why you wanted to make sure you didn't get #2's....

marked. Great information everyone. The "third heaven" discussion that has come up in a few different threads over the past few days is fascinating.

When you realized that it was all a lie.. how did you cope?
by stuckinamovement ini realized about a year ago after much lurking here, that the truth was in fact a lie.
it rocked me to my core to come to the understanding that everything that i have been taught, believed in and taught people myself was in fact not true.
when you are a born in like myself, the teachings of the wts become all you know.

stuckinamovement, Romans 8:1-17 was a major eye-opener for me. Especially look at vs 5,8,14,16, then see if the scriptures say only the "anointed" are God's children, or if they say something else.

I don't know which perspectives you consider biased.
I consider all perspectives biased at the moment :) I was thinking of somethng that spelled out various options of meaning and left it open to the reader.

For those still in- why do you (really) stay, and what would it take for you to leave the org?
by serenitynow! infor the so-called conscious class, those of you who know it's all a disgusting lie, what is the real reason you stay in?
i find it hard to understand how ones who know what the org truly is would continue to be an active jw.
i'm not talking about the "faders"- those with an actual plan to get out as painlessly as possible.

For me family = fear of starting over. I don't want to lose my family over some religion. If my family "wake up", I'll be walking. Until then I live a lie.
