"I think that without Internet access, I would still be a believer today."
by leavingwt incraig bloomberg, evangelical author, discusses de-conversion.
.. studies of deconversions find three fairly consistent factors or kinds of experiences that trigger such rejection of christianity.
first, a crisis of some kind unexpectedly intrudes into a persons life.

I think that without internet access I'd still be a believing JW today.
Thanks to internet access I'm a non-believing pretending-to-believe JW today.

by Mythbuster ini've been reading the trial transcript and i found this little nugget (page 1028).
this comes while the prosecution is questioning rutherford:.

Good find! Another example of neutrality perverted by theocratic warfare?

You could lose your wife. leavingwt, that's what frightens me most, but I was under the impression that there are strict rules for divorce, even in the WTBS
There are strict rules for divorce (adultery). But there are 'extreme' situatoins that a Jehovah's Witness can separate for as a 'last resort' (See "Keep yourself in God's Love" book pg. 219-221).:
- Willfull Nonsupport
- Extreme Physical Abuse
- Absolute Endangerement of Spiritual Life

a christian must make a personal decision - how would this apply to birthdays?
by booby in*** g04 7/8 p. 30 from our readers ***.
pinatas i read with interest the article "the pinata-an ancient tradition.
" (september 22, 2003) it left me with some questions.

My theory is that somehow this article slipped by the editors and made it into print.
This article pretty much contradicts the Bible teach book which state (ch 16, p. 159, par 12)
'Maybe you feel that the origins of holidays have little to do with how they are celebrated today. Do origins really matter? Yes! To illustrate: Suppose you saw a piece of candy lying in the gutter. Would you pick up that candy and eat it? Or course not! That candy is unclean. Like that candy, holidays may seem sweet, but they have been picked up from unclean places. To take a stand for true worshiup, we need to have a viewpoint like that of the prophet Isaiah, who told true worshipers: "Touch nothing unlean."-Isaiah 52:11'
After reading that article, and the article on toasting (which states that toasting is not okay because of it's pagan origins, but wedding rings are despite their pagan origins), I realized how arbitrary the mandate of what is and isn't clean is.

The term Governing Body where did it come from?
by ssn587 ini have been wondering just where this term came from.
is it exclusive of the dubs or did some other sect invent it?
anyone knowing?

I also took a look at some of the older publications and ran into the references that Blondie posted. In the 1950s did they consider the board of directors to be the governing body? If so what I previously stated may not be entirely accurate.
