i for one would not want to work with people with mental illness or depression just in case they were possessed by some of those pesky spirits.. .
The 53 quote is a bit old school with the 80s quotes tending to be more balanced.
But if a JW had a mental illness in the 50s, not only would they have to contend with the illness themselves, they'd have the extra burden/fear of worrying that they were more likely to have demon problems. That can only further excaberate the mental illness.

i have not been posting "a lot" lately (not that i post a lot, considering the averages) and there is a reason: i have another bit to share and just wasn't up to the "fight" that usually comes when i do so.

kind of "we didn't force you to believe what we said or adjust your life because of it.
you chose to think we were teaching the end would come in <insert time range>".
It's like dangling a carrot in front of a horse and beating it when it takes a bite.

for those of us who remember it first hand, the 1975 fiasco is a strong indicator that the watchtower bible and tract society is not what it represents itself to be.
in the late 1970's, after several years of unprecedented growth, the wtbts experienced an exodus of disallusioned thousands which many attribute to the failed 1975 prophesy (see www.jwfacts.com/watchtower/1975.php for details).
the wtbts hierarchy subsequently played down the great disappointment of 1975, blamed its rank and file for having precipitated it, and has successfully swept it under the carpet.

@Terry:How many persons here are aware that the whole END OF 6,000 YEARS OF HUMAN EXISTENCE had already been used previously (by the Watchtower Society) with equally null outcome before being dusted off and re-applied to 1975??
Are you referring to 1925? From what I recall, 1925 was calculated as the end of some jubilee cycles, then 1975 came into fruition when they realized that they something in the book of Judges(?) justified adding another 50 years.

both physically, and mentally, althought the latter otweighted the former by tons.
Most of them are mooching off their future. Once their assignment is over, they may have to start from scratch making a living when they're well past they're prime.
