The real identity of the F&DS revealed...any news yet?

recently barbara posted the update on the unthank case and mentioned that more would be revealed soon on the real identity of the faithful slave.. has it been revealed yet?

Joey, that elder needs to read Ray Franz's In Search of Christian Freedom. Franz, of course, was a member of the Governing Body, so he was in a position to know.

On pages 152 to 164 he explicitly deals with the widespread perception among Witnesses that anointed JWs pass on their thoughts to headquarters and that these are then translated into doctrinal shifts. Franz says there is no such process, and that letters from anointed JWs are treated with no more interest at Bethel than are letters from anyone else.

The WTS has explicitly said no global network of anointed Witnesses exists to reveal new spiritual truths, and that those members of the "slave class" outside the Governing Body are not consulted when making decisions. Members of other religions are allowed to think for themselves and make decisions based on personal conscience. Jehovah's Witnesses attain "unity" by enforcing centrally dictated rules on thinking and conduct with the threat of expulsion and shunning for any who break ranks.

Anyone, Christian or non-Christian, has the right to decide whether they want to celebrate Christmas or not.

This religion decides that if anyone decides as a matter of conscience that they can do so (as did Charles Russell and his followers who, ahem, Jesus chose as his faithful slave in 1918 or 1919), they should be expelled and that no member of the religion should ever speak to them again.

Anyone getting a response from the Watchtower either stating the (possibly "worldly") lawyers were mistaken or invoking "theocratic warfare" could have a bombshell of info for the court.

Wontleave, the lawyers representing the WTS live and work at Bethel. Vin Toole's legal studies and training were funded by the WTS. In many ways Vin Toole is the WTS in Australia. Witnesses in Queensland, where he served as a CO, practically bow down to him. He is adored at Bethel.

the more i research this particular subject, the more flip-flops i uncover.

it seems the fds cant even make up their minds regarding what happened in 1918 (or should i say 1919?).

Ding, you're so right. The son of a friend of mine has recently joined. He has told his father the newspaper reports of the "mentally diseased" statement are lies; that his father just doesn't understand becuse he's not a JW. He is embarking on a life of dutiful, unthinking obedience to a group of faceless men in NY and has chosen not to listen to those who identify major flaws in the logic. One day he, too, will be like that old man, chasing rainbows. Wasted life.

James Beverley's book on Penton's expulsion now on Abebooks

"crisis of allegiance" is a slim, but excellent book written by a professor of religion on the events in lethbridge, alberta, around 1981, that led to the expulsion of jim penton, a jw who believed he was anointed but also happened to think the wts had some doctrines wrong.. it's a great read that ties in quite closely with the campaign to get rid of ray franz, showing the dirty tricks used by the society to rid themselves of someone who dared to question them.

penton was an academic who the society loved when he wrote a book on their human rights legal challenges ... but when he expanded his research and decided to do a book on their history, pow!

they began regarding him with great suspicion.

Interesting, dgp: I have had online discussions with JWs who believe Penton is utterly biased against the WTS. Others have evidently chosen not to read the book, believing it to be a hatchet job on their beloved religion.

i had no plans to turn up to the court hearing as an observer, as in my experience, it can take several hearings and a number of months before any court case gets rolling.

I keep waiting to hear a good reason for the high official (overseer, or director?) of the Australian branch that was moved to Poland after the first criminal court date had taken place.

time: 4pm aprox last house.

Funny how those loving shepherds sometimes just seem to overlook those lost sheep!

It took from April 2008 (when I went to my last meeting) to late October the same year for an elder to catch up with ... not me, but my wife at her work ... to say, "So what happened?" The reason for his visit: I told a friend of mine in Brisbane I hadn't been to a meeting for six months. His reaction: "And what have the elders said to you?" He was aghast that none had contacted us. No elders, none of our so-called friends. So he phoned the secretary at my congo down here in Melbourne and asked him why no one had come.

Doesn't not doing field service take a huge weight off your shoulders?

It pops up from time to time. I obtained it by creating a "wants" list at Abebooks; Alibris has a similar feature, I think. It's well worth adding to your library.
