Sorry, www.biblos.com does not recognize the NWT version as a translation. So you may have to open your hard copy or hit the WTS website to compare.

growing up in a jw family, my parents and my grandparents had many versions of the bible...not just the new world translation.
sometimes i read these.
but i always bought the hype that the new world translation was the most unbiased and most consistent in rendering hebrew and greek into the modern language.

www.biblos.com is a great site that compares dozens of translations and has interlinears from Greek, Hebrew, Aramaic, Latin and others too. A great research tool to compare verse by verse against a dozen translations all at once.
You may stay awhile. Better get some beer and order a pizza
happy studying!

what is your take on players in all sports who feel the need to connect their athleticism with god's will.
tebow of the denver broncos is the latest in a long line of players who either thank jesus or point a finger to heaven when they score a touchdown or slam some guys head into a concussion.. oddly you don't see bowlers doing the same praise jesus dance for knocking over some pins, i guess its not that exciting to jesus .
Of course Jesus loves American football, but I'd have to say that he's a Patriots fan.

the truth that leads to eternal life.

So far only 3 pages of examples of "Lying for the Truth [ tm ]"
Let's go people. You can do better.
anyone here ever try to host a small benefit-type gathering for a witness in need?
my wife's aunt and uncle fell on hard times and someone decided to have a gathering where everyone brought a little food and then could give them a little money if wanted.
it was all pretty informal and unofficial but for some reason their son contacted the co to make sure it was okay to do something a little unconventional.
All over the bible [old and new testament] it is written about the giving of alms to the poor.
Widows, orphans and the sick are always singled out as folks to give alms to yet it is still amazing to me that the WTS simply ignores those very worthy causes and takes all cash for itself.
Very contridictory is the best thing that you could say about the WTS in most of it's doctrines and policys.

i told a current longtime jw friend who hasn't been to a meeting in months now :) this statement:.
"if jw's were so honest and this was the true religion that they really and i mean really believed was the truth, how come they never tell any of their return visits or children before babtizim that if they ever choose to think differently and believe differently and decides they no longer want to be one of jehovahs witness, they will be shunned by all former friends and last but not least family??!!
do you really think if they were told this "disclosure" at the time of studying they would continue?
There are plenty of questions that you could ask a JW to have them think of their position, but not many would make them change their system of belief.
I thought that I had the stumper question. "If Jesus is a god, then what kind of god is he, true or false?"
It is not until a person is ready to honestly look at their beliefs. If they're not ready, no question will work imho.

I've had this discussion with my koolaid drinking brother. He stated that JWs had gone to give aid after the big tsunami from a couple of years ago and after the earthquake in Haiti. He maintains that JWs [as an organization] gives and helps all the time.
I asked him to name a JW hospital, orphanage or foodbank and he just shrugs.
I asked him 'What if everyone gave to those biblical causes?'
Then I asked him 'What if no one gave to those causes?'
All cash goes to the Watchtower as far as I know.

Not the biggest lie, but one of the funniest to me is
"The date 1925 is even more distinctly indicated by the Scriptures than 1914 because it is fixed by the law God gave to Israel." Watchtower 1st Sept 1922

When I think of the biggest lie from the WTS, I think of 'Millions living now will never die'

i was reading an article from the awake on spousal abuse, and something else caught my eye.
"the bible long ago foretold that during the last days of this system of things, many would be abusive, with no natural affection, and fierce.
(2 timothy 3:1-3; thenewenglishbible) the prevalence of spouse abuse is simply another indication that we are living in the very time period designated by this prophecy.
Hi New- as you know, it is WTS mantra that the end is [always] near and if you want to be saved, you must get on board. I think they give any examples that can to prove their position. This is not the most ridiculous example that I have heard.
Hell, I couldn't even tell you the most ridiculous that I have heard as there have been sooo many laughable examples in their books and booklets.
