9My JW sibling & his family are coming over friday night
by TTWSYF inso, at my house we have a christmas party annually.
i told my koolaid drinking bro that i'd tone down the xmas part if he and his family would come and they said 'yes'.. my parents and other siblings are very merrily shocked.. my question to this board is....what should i do or say or not do or say to keep the peace should jw topics arise?.
i guess i'm looking for advice to get them to think without scaring them off.. thanks,.

The Watchtower is NOT a false prophet
by The Quiet One inregarding what some have said here about the wt being a false prophet.. i would like to make my point regarding the wt not being a false prophet... so please, if you can be patient enough to read this, at least try to understand what i am getting at.. a false prophet is one who, according to deuteronomy, makes a false prediction of the future and claims that the prediction came from god, or in other words claiming that 'god has said he will do a certain thing at a certain time' etc.. for example, hypothetically speaking, if someone had claimed: "god will bring about the end of the world in 2010", they would have been proven to be a false prophet, obviously.
but, as an example, imagine a man who claimed the position of a prophet of god, (as moses did, because although he was not the type of prophet that predicted the future.. he was still a prophet or spokesman for god) and that he had publicised worldwide, according to his interpretation of a (for example) prophecy found in the book of isaiah, that the world would end in 2010.. and he had also stated that he was not saying that god will end the world in that year.. but only that there was biblical evidence that god might do so.
that would clearly have been a mistake.

The WTS always compare themselves to the apostles when they try to point out that they are not false prophets
Interesting. Are there examples of the apostles giving prophesy as a group? I know there was the Jerusalem council, but I am unaware of the group of apostles prophesizing as a group like the WTS.

What a topic. 5 pages in no time. My topics barely get a reply.....but I digress.... After reading all of these posts, I haven't read anyone mention about a group of prophets. What I mean to ask is this-
Is there any time in history when a group of people were considered prophets? I ask because my understanding is that there were many prophets who proclaimed God's will as related to them personally. The WTS states that they are a group proclaiming God's will. Has there ever been such a thing in the scriptures or anywhere else?

Examples of Bias/Discrepancies in the New World Translation
by Londo111 into be fair, translating the bible is a huge undertaking, and in doing so, there are bound to be mistakes, or even limits to a committee's knowledge.
obviously, we cannot read the hearts of the four translators of the new world translation committee to know when they consciously or subconsciously altered renderings in to support doctrinal bias.
but more and more, i do come across things that feel askew to me.
