JT, I believe I read your JW experience on the web last night. I did a search for bethelites and stumbled across it. So you were one of the JW elite? Wow, I wanted to be like you when I grew up! Seriously, though, its encouraging to read your story, because I have friends at Bethel that I thought were lost to me forever. You got out, so I know there's hope. Could you post the link to your story in this thread?

'greetings, i'm a member of the great crowd of other sheep rendering sacred service to the ancient of days in the earthly courtyard of the spiritual temple by following the example of the fine shepherd and engaging as a pioneer in preaching the good news of the kingdom with the sword of the spirit.
we are helping to warn those not familiar with the divine name that the second presence of the chief agent of life has begun, and soon the last days will reach their culmination when the scarlet-colored wild beast will turn on the harlot and destroy babylon the great, beginning the great tribulation which is climaxed by har-magedon and the ruler of the world, now in tartarus, being thrown into the abyss for the rest of the last adam's millennial reign.

Actually, Yardirf this was not taken from an ex-jw site. This is from a site called JW Cyberhall. There are excerpts from meetings for JWs. If it was taken out of context it is the fault of the webmaster. Ah, but JWs are the masters of taking stuff out of context! Here's the link to the main page

What are you doing on an apostate site this early in the morning? Shouldn't you be getting ready for the field ministry?

I think that the original post might have been a joke. I hope it was. If not, that guy or gal is really a weirdo.

However, antitypical apostate Jerusalem with her man of lawlessness class is supporting the false prophet and fighting against the anointed remnant of spiritual Israel, the ambassadors of heavenly Jerusalem, and their envoys, who are keeping themselves without spot from the world and who would rather go to Sheol or Hades than Gehenna by rejecting the theocracy proclaimed by the faithful and discreet slave and the Governing Body of the spiritual paradise on earth today. So, if you don’t want to subscribe to these horses, here's a program schedule for the Kingdom Hall, where you can come and learn more about New Jerusalem, new heavens, new earth, new commandment, new birth, new lump, new song, new creation, new personality, and the new covenant.
Thank you for your time ... which is not to be confused with a time and times and half a time. -

Why I Became an Inactive Witness
by Dutchy ini used to be a gungho witnesses.

I'm in the same boat as Christfollower. To answer the question about how an ex-jw can go to another Christian religion, I feel that as a JW I was NOT a Christian and now I have converted to Christianity. I found out that just about everything JWs said about churches in general was a big fat lie. I figured that if the elders wanted to keep me from the church, then there must be something GOOD about it!

Don't want to stumble anyone!
by Beck_Melbourne indid you have narrow minded turds as elders/overseers in your congregation?
yup so did i...they're everwhere.. "there was this one time..at band camp"....it was in a hired hall actually...where we used to organise congregation functions like farewells etc.
this usually consisted of food...non alcoholic beverages...and some entertainment...usually square dancing and some skits...and a presentation or speech.. at one function a particular elder was offended that the 'gay gordon' was one of the dances for the evening...so he promptly left...yup...at the next function it was renamed the 'happy gordon'...as his conscience wouldn't allow him to attend otherwise.

That mention of the Macarena reminded me of an experience I had. My friend and I went to a party, and I was really down. I had just broken up with a boyfriend that had been a long time friend and he had showed up at the party with a new girl. I was too proud to leave the party so I just decided to never leave the dance floor. Now I had always raised a few eyebrows with my dancing, but I didn't care. I was doing that Macarena like it had never been done, and looking good too if I do say so myself. This old bat of a sister came up in the middle of the song and tapped me on my shoulder and shook her head. It took every ounce of restraint in me, and some of the restraint of a good friend to keep me from cursing that woman out! I suppose my dancing was inciting lust. Whatever!

Forgotten/Unforgotten Friends
by kheli insince i am recently out of the "truth", i still find that i have a couple of people that i really miss.
i have managed to get past the stage of obsessing about whether or not certain people still think/care about me.. but, every now and then i wonder about my (ex)best friend.
she was like a sister to me.

Kheli,
I understand your pain. I had one very good friend who knew my reasons for drifting away, and tried to understand. It seemed, though, that every time we got in a conversation her JW mentality would irritate me. I remember I made a comment to her about something and she said, "Well, yeah, but your thinking has been altered." Shortly after that we ended our friendship. I felt bad about it because she was disfellowshipped shortly after that. She is reinstated now, but for some reason I feel I should've been there when everyone else was shunning her. I just couldn't get with her judgemental attitude and the labeling of everything I said as 'apostate'. I'm sure if I called her now that she would talk to me, but I don't want to reopen any closed (not necessarily healed) wounds. Kheli, I suggest that you make some new friends, its very unsettling for believing JWs to be around the ones that leave.

Does Looks Really Matter?
by butalbee indoes looks really matter in love?
would you go out with someone who was not physically attractive if he/she had a big heart on the inside, a great personality, lot's of things in common with, etc...i guess i'm asking what's more important to you the person on the exterior or who he/she really is underneath?.

Every guy I have ever dated has had 'character' to his face. Hated those pretty boys! The thing that attracted me to my husband was this huge scar that he has from his hairline to his eyebrow. I wondered how he got it. When I was a teenager, I had a thing for getting crushes on the most unlikely teachers. Mr. Seidman was balding and he liked wearing this tight green turtleneck. The man had a wonderful mind. Mr. Stern was my geometry teacher, he was a little bald guy that put you in the mind of Patrick Stewart from Star Trek The Next Generation. I thought I was in love with him! I have always appreciated a man's mind.

I was accused of stumbling one of my bible studies, because I went roller skating at a 'worldly venue' right after the meetings let out on Tuesday and Thursday. I would change from my long floral print little house on the prairie gown into my 'daisy dukes' and halter top in my car.
