pronomono - I, on the other hand, really believed it, just the last 5 years felt weird (dissonance setting in). After I was Dfed I went on the Internet and learnd why.

What was your "Aha!" moment?
by Hortenzie infor me it was when i learned that gb makes their decisions by 2/3 majority vote, not by direction of holy spirit..

Mum - I can relate to that. My JC was was made up of 3 what I considered my friends. They treated me respectfully, but what really got me was how cold and business-like they appeared, they didn't show any concerns for me, just read a few scriptures and were done with me. By the way - they wouldn't burn you at stake, the preferred biblical method is stoning ;)
Rippy - truly, "the truth" is making people think and behave in unnatural way. I was thinking the same about my Dad, thankfully he is still alive and well.

For me it was when I learned that GB makes their decisions by 2/3 majority vote, NOT by direction of holy spirit.

"They're only human!" (the most common defence of the Governing Body)

Yes, they are only human, but they claim to be God's true and only channel, and they knowingly present their own ideas as God's, that's why they are inexcusable.

Waiting for the JWs to come to my door...
by Hortenzie ini read about the new tract distribution and thought to myself how should i react, when they come to my door.
finally today, after finishing my morning coffee, i got an idea!
i'll take the tract, look at it, look at them, and with a nice smile rip it up and hand it back to them with :"have a great day!

Loveyourneighbor - thanks for your comment, but I am sitting here scratching my head trying to understand... I understand the first part. Country can be great independently of the present government. Governments come and go, and some are better and some are shameful (I live in Toronto, Canada, so believe me, I know...) But when it comes to JW religion, it IS the organization (GB in particular) who create it. The religion IS the organization. It is the people, not just the GB, who let their children die without blood transfusion, it is the people who shun their family members and friends who are no longer in, it is the people who are looking forward to the Armagedon knowing well that billions of humans would die... It is the religion (the believes and the actions those believes effect) that produces bad fruit in mostly good people.
And thank you for your best wishes. Fortunately, I have a happy live. Great (Catholic) husband, fantastic step-children, nice home, work, health, ... But the loss of faith is weighing heavily on me and I hold it against the dogmatic religion of JWs, that is presenting flawed human ideas as a 100% genuine true revelations under the guidance of holy spirit.
And the nice things your Father is rightfully proud of come from Jesus Christ who was a Jew not a JW!

How to accept the actions of the Old Testament God
by confusedandalone inhow are we able to do this.. this is not an attempt to stir the pot or cause confusion but i was sitting here thinking of all the really horrid things that the old testament god did to people.
when i was a jw i just purposely put it to the back of my mind always trying to make an excuse.
when i was in field service and someone would ask me about it i would just change the subject.. however i have been reading alot of info lately here about how wonderful jesus is and how he is a direct representation of what god the father would be.

Adamah - I thought I made it perfectly clear that God (if he exists) and what people claim about God are two completely different things. And since God didn't talk to me I can't talk for him. You are using the Bible as an authority on God, but remember it was written by people who claim to talk in the name of God. And believing something doesn't make it real. Belief is just an opinion...
Beside that, we are trying to understand thinking of ancient people. The times are different, we are different, our thinking is different, it is nearly impossible to imagine what was going on in their heads. (Good point made by Pyramid God)
P.S. And of course, I'm against slavery of any kind (physical, as well as mental, spiritual, or emotional). And I'm sure the Creator of everything would be too. Why would he want 5 of his children mistreat his other 5 children. If they deserve it, maybe there is something wrong with his parental skills.

Adamah - again, if you actually read what people say, instead of just listening to the sound of your own voice, you would know I did answer the question. it's just a few posts above my comment to you.

Adamah you said: What is with you creating strawmen by ascribing motives to others? Well, you did that to me yesterday. It wasn't pretty or acurate. Buddy, you can't have it both ways.

Everything people say about God and every time people claim to talk for God you have to take with a grain of salt. Unless God comes and puts us straight there are no answers. Everything else is just opinions. Including this comment.

Great! Now you know ( just a play on your name - by the way, very appropriate for this forum). I'm very happy for you.
