Tec, I have been talking to God daily for more than 20 years, listening for answers, or any kind of communication from God, Jesus, Spirit, anyone... And... Nothing!
And don't say it's me, because I truly believed. (Now, not so much).
in ancient times , o.t.speak, god dealt with humans in a variety of ways , dreams ,visions ,prophets, and prophetesses , then apparently 2000 years ago he must have said, i`m not doing this anymore.they , my followers will just have to beleive and put faith in what has been written down up untill the 20th century of the common era.
approximately 4000 years of human history where god has communicated with humans .
if you beleive that .. their has been no communication between god , with any human , whether by dreams , visions , or prophets , for the past 2000 years.. and may i add, their has been no communication from jesus during these past 2000 years either, giving us enlightend /updates about his sayings /prophecys that he gave while on earth 2000 years ago.. please explain.. smiddy.

she has been a witness most of her life.

She has been a witness most of her life. Her three kids were brought up as JW in a communist country and the whole family suffered reprisals from the regime for being in the org. (Father was well know elder). She is a very intelligent person and always studied all the material. Over the last few years she realized that most of what she believed and taught her children has been been changed. She was devastated but courageously stood in front of her children and apologized for teaching them lies. They all, except the Father, stopped going to the meetings and are trying to figure out what's next.
They don't speak English and didn't know about the UN, pedophiles, CoC, and so on. It was just the doctrinal changes that woke them up.
I just wanted to share this story with all of you who are hoping that your loved ones will wake up. Anything is possible!
I'm so happy, they were my favourite family in my Mom's congr!
when i discuss things with my father regarding whether a governing body is needed for christians one theme that is constant with him is "if it's not the gb who is the faithful and discreet slave - who else is giving food in these days to god's people?".
i've been working on a response to this for the last couple of months and am just curious as to who christians who are ex-witnesses interpret the faithful and discreet slave to be, and the parable in general.. .
i guess i'm just looking to round out my argument and have a few different angles.
It is a parable. How we know that? First of all, it is groupped with other parables (the burglar, ten virgins, talents). Second of all, there is a possibility that he turns bad. It is a story to teach certain lessons, not a prophecy about a group of guys in Brooklyn.
love is a stupid bunch of chemicals released to ensure that we have kids so believe many an evolutionist (god delusion).
whilst i dont believe in a god i find that reasoning hard to believe.. .
what do you think love is?
I think that everybody has their own idea about what love is. There are different kinds of love, and there are different words to describe them more accurately: warm affection, charity, sexual passion... I preffer to use the more accurate words. But when I use the word "love" I mean a strong liking for someone that moves me to do good to that person (usually it has nothing to do with sex).
i would like to thank everyone for the discussions that we've all had.
after all of them i have realized, all of you have made me realized that after all of the stuff i have been through, i just need a good friend.
and regardless of how hostile our discussion could get i have felt that you have all shared something with me that have helped me.
Goodbye Former Friends, Love Brother Michael.
- Ha, ha. Are you already shunning us?
i'm new to this site, but i have been following the topics for some time.
initially, it was during a deep search into the history of jehovah's witnesses, and yes, "apostate" sites.
i was born into the organization in 1989. my father was always more inclined to the organization than my mother, and soon after she was df'ed.
JW is a new religion, not a new congregation. There is not even consensus that it is a Christian religion because they don't believe majority of what historical Christian religions (or denominations) do.

Pelican, this is not the right thread. But I think the answer is obvious. Religion is the fruit of a place and a time. Christ-ianity began with Christ almost 2000 years ago in Middle East...
And one more thought for Startingover13 - I am truly happy that your Dad doesn't shun you and helped you to put some order in your life. That's great! But a messy life or somebody's kindness (That's what Dads should do anyway) are not the right reasons to go back to a cult. It will not work out in long run.
I would like to hear from you, Startingover13. It's your conversation.

Pelican,
we are talking about a person wanting going back to JW rel. we are not discussing Christianity...
By the way you cannot start a brand new Christian religion more then 1800 years after the fact... JW have no historical claim to Christianity what so ever...
it seems in most congregations there is always the same personality types of brothers and sisters in each congregation.
self righteous ones.
holier than thou, exemplary, with dc/ca parts every year family.
Mostly normal people, but we had a few "professional JWs" who did everything by the book and had a permanent "kingdom" smile etched on their faces. These made me feel so empty that I would come home and cry. And some real "nuts", who were of course tolerated, because they were zealous in the ministry. That made me confused, I was always wondering if anyboy else noticed that they were off. And I tried to avoid them at all cost because I didn't know how to deal with them...

If you are going back to the org. I just wanted to remind you that the JW religion is not God's religion. It is fully man-made, that's why they have to change their believes often, that's why none of their predictions ever came true, that's why they have miriads of petty rules for every aspect of their lives. You cannot seperate the organization from the religion. The organization IS the religion. It is the governing body who sets out the believes, teachings, rules, standards, procedures... and they do it by voting (2/3 majority) and NOT under the guidance of holy spirit. If you think that by going back to the org. you will be doing God's will you are delusional. If you think that you can do things your own way in a highly controling organization you are fooling yourselves. Of course, the decission is yours to make, but you won't get my good wishes, that would be hypocritical...
