My uncle took care of my dad while he(my uncle, the paramedic) was df'd. My dad would'nt speak to him even until he died. Iloved my dad, but that is one thing I can't forgive him for, & what really sucks is I can't "face" him about it.

by ChrisVance inwhat noidea is going thru got me to thinking what i'd do if one of my family members who shuns me, that's most of them, were really sick and in the hospital.
several years ago my daughter was really sick and in the hospital.
i didn't go see her and i've often wondered whether i did the right thing.

Why People Believe Weird Things....
by Focus inas many have observed, over the years jw-related boards and ngs have suffered from the attacks of some people with apparently extremist views that, while being baffling, distasteful, and on occasion even hateful to the majority, are based on sheer kookery, idiocy, ignorance or lack of clear thought.
there is more "proof" that the earth is flat than there is for most such nonsense; however, flat-earth nonsense does not, as far as i know, harm people (unless such people are attempting transglobal navigation, when they will eventually encounter a major flaw in flat-earthist dogma), while racial/religious/sexual/class-based bigotry or hatred does, and is very upsetting to most sensitive persons (whether or not they belong to the grouping being attacked).
but censorship is not the answer, as to do silence them by force of law or other authority adds a certain appeal to their shoddy kookery, especially where the inexperienced are concerned.

It's interesting that this study is so alarmist. Of course some #'s are down, a lot of those in countries w/ no free press. Plus, we're up from 37% to 61% in russia. These are controversial times, of course some "approval" #'s are down. big deal

experience w/ this lil' goth chick I knew. She always gave me attitude, etc. still dunno if she loved or hated me.
Anyway, I saw her one day, & she turns white & runs off.
Her friend says she's having dreams about me doing horrible things
to her & has'nt been able to sleep for days. So I go to talk to her,
she mumbles what the dreams were about, & out of my mouth,
unintentionally, instinctively, w/ no forethought pops
" Were you trying to cast a spell on me?" Well, she turns even paler
under her pancake makeup & runs off again. Yup, I called it,
never could find out what kinda spell, but I guess it backfired
in a big way

DIM is an apostate
by DIM inwell, after 9 months of being out, i've learned that the rumour is out that i am apostate.
this is primarily because of things my mother has said to people.
the funny thing is that i moved 3000 miles away and have barely had any contact with any of my old friends.

Suicidal fear of rejection.
by seven006 inthe fear of rejection has once again controlled my life and my actions in an unintentional act of self destruction brought on by how i was raised to view life.
i have come to the conclusion that i will probably be battling this psychological whirlpool of self sabotage for the rest of my life and i do not think i have the ability to completely eliminate it.
talking about it here is a start.

Dave, thank you for so elequently & bravely putting down what so many of us have felt.
You did hit the nail on the head. I know your not going to kill yourself, butI'd like to say a couple of things about suicide & the jw's.
Ive read about several murder suicides in the past few years that involved the jws, or fundamentalist religion. Robert Bryant. Christian Longo. There are more, but I don't know the names off hand. I also know someone very close to me who was going to kill herself & her children as a result of the jws, & only a twist of fate kept her from doing so. It's a problem that needs addressed. I think I'll start a thread on it soon. Thanks.
P.s I thought about doing myself in every night for 5 yrs. until I moved from the NW to sunny CA, two weeks later the thoughts were gone. Just a thought
